Award-winning singer-songwriter Graybill has a few messages for you on his new album, The Path Less Traveled . "It's Alright," "Don't Quit," and "Let That BS Go." He's in a decidedly introspective and reflective mood on the album's 11 tracks, singing songs about learning to accept what is and to stay positive. click to enlarge Photo Courtesy Of Graybill THE POWER OF POSITIVITY Good Medicine and KCBX present award-winning singer-songwriter Graybill at Club Car Bar on Feb. 28 . Graybill—whose first name is Kevin, though he just goes by his last name—was born in San Diego and lived his first five years there before moving with his family to Washington state. "My parents were SoCal beach folk, so though I grew up mostly in Washington, there was somewhat of a conscious/subconscious coming home feeling about moving back to California later in life," he explained. "I never really adjusted to the cold winters up north. Just gimmie that sunshine, please." When he relocated to San Luis Obispo in 2017, he'd never even heard of our town. He simply followed his then girlfriend from their home in Seattle to Cal Poly for her grad school internship. "When I landed here, the live music scene was electric," he recalled. "It just felt like there was live music everywhere on any given day, and I just dove right in and never looked back. I'm so grateful for this music community for embracing me the way it did." Music is now his full-time job, but he took the road less traveled getting there. On his website, he mentions that living in Seattle in his 20s was about "blurring the line between vocation and play," weaving experiences such as "mushroom foraging, tech startups, eastern philosophy, World Beard Championships, bio-hacking, dog walking, Uber driving, improv theater, and even 200-mile bike rides." He didn't even write his first song until he was 19. "So, fast forward to me at 18 years old, after having played the guitar for a few years, and beginning to try and learn and sing songs of singer-songwriters. Eventually I started making up my own words, then you start moving around a couple of chords, changing the rhythm a little, and you go, 'Whoa, I guess I just wrote my first song. I'm a songwriter now!' Officially, I would say I wrote my first fully original song at 19 years old, the summer between my freshman and sophomore year of college. The song was called 'Crash and Burn.'" He finally got around to recording his debut album in 2021. High Tide/Low Tide was essentially two six-song EPs packaged together. The High Tide collection was optimistic, upbeat full-band arrangements while the Low Tide collection was sparse arrangements and introspective. The recording won Album of the Year at the New Times Music Awards. "I certainly was surprised by winning album of the year in 2021. A big part of the reason why was the selection date had passed by a few weeks, and I never heard from anyone. Friends of mine in other bands had already heard from the committee either way, so, I just thought that I didn't win anything, and the judges weren't fans of my music. "I went through the whole internal processing of having my album not be appreciated by critics and owning that I was still so proud of that album and wouldn't have changed anything. I still believed I did the best I could with those songs and loved my first album ... then I got an email saying they forgot to reach out, and I actually won first place! Ha! So, needless to say, it was a beautiful full-circle experience for me emotionally and professionally; and I was honored to have won the award in an area with so much talent." His sophomore effort is another collection of hooky, breezy, infectiously fun songs, including one featuring one of Graybill's influences, G. Love. You can find the album on all the usual platforms. Good Medicine and KCBX present Graybill in Club Car Bar on Friday, Feb. 28 (8:30 p.m.; all ages; $12.56 at my805tix.com ), which also happens to be his 39th birthday. He'll be backed by Tracy Morgan (drums), Adrian Libertini (bass), Bobcat Rob (keys and lead guitar), and Logan Castro (cello). "I'll be playing all originals—a mix of songs from both High Tide/Low Tide and The Path Less Traveled ," Graybill concluded. If you like Jack Johnson, G. Love & Special Sauce, Nick Drake, and Michael Franti, you'll love him. Good Medicine and Numbskull also present Minneapolis songwriter Mason Jennings at The Siren on Friday, Feb. 28 (7 p.m.; 21-and-older; $30.08 at goodmedicinepresents.com ). He's touring in support of his new album, Underneath the Roses , and its first single, "Only Lovers Welcome." The single's video is a moving tribute to love regardless of gender and sexual orientation. It's guaranteed to make bigots' heads explode, which is why I love it. In press materials, Jennings explained that the album's songs were "written in an unprecedented burst" following the birth of his son, Western, in March 2022. "I hadn't written any songs in about a year. I had been dealing with the psychological aftereffects of the pandemic as well as the loss of my dad. So, when Western was born, I didn't expect to be writing much. But immediately he was responding to music in a very intense way. For this album, between May and November 2022, I wrote 48 songs! They certainly uplifted me and connected me with the creative spirit, and spirit in general, again. They cover all kinds of ground but, when I listen back, I think the central theme is overcoming fear with love." click to enlarge Photo Courtesy Of The Rebirth Brass Band NOLA SOUNDS Good Medicine, Numbskull, and KCBX present the Rebirth Brass Band at The Siren on March 5 . I'm banging my head to Carry the 9's new unreleased track "Roots," which reminds us that we all fall down, but our roots hold us up and keep us strong. Punk fans won't want to miss this one. "People should expect three bands' worth of quality high-energy fun," Carry the 9 guitarist and vocalist Jeremy Rich said. "Out of the Ring reminds me of a bit of Social Distortion type vibe. Bunker Club is more of a punk 'n' roll type vibe or maybe a punkier rockabilly type sound. We're more '90s melodic Fat Wreck Chords type skater punk—Lagwagon, Offspring, Bad Religion, Rise Against, Face to Face, NOFX—as that's what we grew up on and still love. All the bands are good and good fun, and we're all friends as well." Carry the 9 released three songs about four years ago and are currently working on four new ones, including "Roots," which will be released to the public on Feb. 28. "We'll be playing all of the released and unreleased songs at the show," Rich added. click to enlarge Courtesy Photo By Chad Martel GOOD FISH Badfish—A Tribute to Sublime plays the Fremont Theater on March 5 . "Putting out original music alongside being a tribute band has always been a point of interest to us," drummer Scott Begin said in press materials. "It's been a tricky path to walk, though. Yet as the years have gone by and we've gotten to witness our little show turn into somewhat of a movement within the scene, we are at the point where we feel we have something of real heart and value to add not only to our show but to the American reggae scene." Man Wants to Exclude His Brother from Cousins' Trip Because He ‘Needlessly Complicates' Logistics

His post sparked debate on a popular Reddit forumNEED TO KNOW A man says that his brother always 'needlessly complicates' group trips Because of this, he decided to exclude him from a group chat about 2027 vacation logistics for a trip he's organizing with his cousins The man shared his story on a popular Reddit forum, where people were divided over whether he made the right callA man says he plans to exclude his brother from a group cousins' trip — but he's not entirely sure it's the right thing to do. The man detailed his situation on the popular Reddit forum 'Am I the A------?,' a place where Reddit users can go to seek advice about interpersonal dilemmas. In his post, he explained that his brother 'always needlessly complicates things for the family whenever we plan things.' He explained that he is currently attempting to plan 'an all-inclusive' cousins' trip at a resort for 2027 and said that all of the cousins are on board for the resort idea... with the exception of his brother and his brother's partner, who would prefer to do a cruise. 'A few of my cousins were okay with doing a cruise, but half of us didn't want to do it, and one of our cousins said she wouldn't come if we did [...] it,' the original poster said. The Redditor said that his brother then suggested hotels or an Airbnb instead of a resort and that he 'wanted to set up a joint bank account so it would make everyone obligated to put money into the fund to prove they were really going on the trip.' The man went on to say that he suspects his brother — who is currently unemployed — is attempting to cut potential costs. However, he also thinks his brother's suggestions are 'unnecessary' and are how their family trips 'die." He added that he recently found out that his brother had been attempting to sell other family members on the cruise idea, despite the fact that many of the cousins had already said that they weren't interested. 'This ticked me off,' he continued, 'So I decided to make a separate family group chat excluding my brother.' He said he plans to tell his brother about the separate group chat 'when all of the planning is finished,' but he's not sure he made the right call. A number of the man's fellow Reddit users said they didn't think he should feel bad about excluding his brother, given the specifics of the situation. The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! 'NTA [not the a------],' one person said. 'My wife and I are currently planning a trip for next year, so we let my siblings know in case they wanted to join us. My brother's family is able to make it, but my sister's family cannot. And ... that was it! My sister wished us well and asked us all to send pictures, no drama or manipulation. Hopefully, we'll all be able to sync up for a trip later, but this one didn't work for everyone, and that's okay.' 'Tell your brother that the plan has been decided, and it's a resort [and] there's nothing further to discuss. You understand that this might not suit him this year, so you'll understand if he declines. Ask him whether he accepts the invitation with these parameters and explicitly explain that if he doesn't or tries to change anything, he will not be welcome this year,' someone else recommended. One person, however, said that while they understood the man's frustration, they also didn't think that a new group chat was the best way to handle the situation. 'I agree that your brother is being annoying. If your brother would rather do a cruise, he can go and do that on his own. When you're part of a group trip, you go with what the group decides [...]. That having been said, you should keep him in the group chat until he makes that decision for himself.' Read the original article on People Solve the daily Crossword

Buffett's Berkshire takes $3.8 billion Kraft Heinz write-down

STORY: Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway said it took a more than $3.7 billion write-down on its stake in Kraft Heinz in the second quarter... an acknowledgment that the decade-old investment hasn't worked out. The write-down followed the struggling food company's announcement that it would consider strategic alternatives, which could include a breakup. It's Berkshire's second write-down for Kraft Heinz, following a $3 billion hit in 2019. Buffett acknowledged at the time that Berkshire overpaid in the 2015 merger of Kraft Foods and H.J. Heinz, one of his biggest investment missteps. Kraft Heinz has suffered as more shoppers favor healthier and private-label alternatives. Its approximately 200 brands include Oscar Mayer, Kool-Aid, Velveeta and Jell-O. Berkshire also reported a 4% decline in quarterly operating profit as insurance underwriting premiums fell. The conglomerate signaled it remains cautious about market valuations amid uncertainty about tariffs and growth in the broader economy. USATF Outdoor Champs: Masai Russell, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone win; men's 1500m stunner

Olympic champions Masai Russell and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone cruised to U.S. titles, while a men's 1500m stunner left fellow Paris gold medalist Cole Hocker clinging to the last qualifying spot for the World Championships. Russell ran two of the fastest 100m hurdles times in history: 12.25 seconds in the first round, then 12.22 in the final at the Toyota USA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. It was just off Russell's American record of 12.17 from this past May, which is the second-fastest time in history behind Nigerian Tobi Amusan's world record of 12.12 from 2022. Russell is joined on the team for September's World Championships in Tokyo by Grace Stark and Alaysha Johnson, who also joined her on the Paris Olympic team. USATF OUTDOORS: Results | Broadcast Schedule Sydney McLaughin-Levrone wins 400m sans hurdles Also Saturday, McLaughlin-Levrone won the U.S. title in the flat 400m in 48.90, opting for that event over the 400m hurdles, where she is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and the world record holder. She said that she "had an idea" going into the July 5 Prefontaine Classic that she wanted to focus on the 400m this summer. After 2025, she is keeping her options open between the 400m and 400m hurdles going toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. "It's (the 400m) not as comfortable for us, but I want to challenge myself," McLaughlin-Levrone said. "I felt like this is a year I want to step out of the box and really push myself in a different way." She is the world's third-fastest woman this year in the flat 400m behind Olympic silver and gold medalists Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain (48.67) and Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic (48.81). No woman has won World Championships medals in both the flat 400m and the 400m hurdles in their career. In 2023, McLaughlin-Levrone ran the flat 400m at nationals when she had a bye into the World Championships in the 400m hurdles as defending world champion. That year, she planned to race strictly the flat 400m at worlds before withdrawing before the meet due to injury. In Saturday's men's 400m, Jacory Patterson went from working overnights loading UPS trucks to winning his first U.S. title in 44.16. He is the world's third-fastest man in 2025 with a best of 43.98. The event lacked 2024 Olympic gold medalist Quincy Hall and 2022 World champion Michael Norman, neither of whom entered nationals. Hall has dealt with injury this season, and Norman has missed significant time due to injuries in recent years. Quincy Wilson, who last year with the 4x400m became the youngest male Olympic track gold medalist in history at age 16, was 11th overall in the semifinals. Jonah Koech was the surprise men's 1500m champion, going from sixth on the outside at the start of the final curve. Koech competed in the 1500m at nationals for the first time after previously racing the 800m, including placing fifth at the Olympic Trials. Koech, who deemed himself 70% after Thursday's first round due to a hamstring injury, clocked 3:30.17, edging recent NCAA standout Ethan Strand by eight hundredths. Hocker made the world team in the third and last spot. He was followed by Hobbs Kessler (fifth at the Olympics) and Yared Nuguse (Olympic bronze medalist). Now Kessler or Nuguse can only make the world team by winning the Diamond League Final later this month. In the women's 1500m, Nikki Hiltz won a record-extending sixth consecutive U.S. title (indoors and outdoors) dating to 2023. Hiltz pulled away from U.S. mile record holder Sinclaire Johnson to prevail in 4:03.15. All of the favorites advanced in the men's 110m hurdles except Olympic silver medalist Daniel Roberts, who scratched out of the first round. Field event winners included two-time world champion Chase Jackson (shot put, top four throws of the event). Plus Olympic long jump and triple jump bronze medalist Jasmine Moore (triple jump, top six jumps of the event). For the first time, the Para National Championships are being held in conjunction with the USATF Outdoor Championships. Paris gold medalist Hunter Woodhall took the men's T62 400m in 45.79, nine hundredth off his world record (pending ratification) from July. Saturday's standouts also included Paralympic T12 100m gold medalist Noah Malone, who clocked 10.62 seconds, beating his Paris winning time by nine hundredths. In the women's 100m, two-time Paralympic T47 silver medalist Brittni Mason crossed in 12.23, just off her final time from Paris of 12.10. Para athletes are preparing for World Championships in New Delhi, India, from Sept. 26-Oct. 5. Nationals end Sunday with finals including the men's and women's 200m and 400m hurdles and the men's 110m hurdles (4-6 p.m. ET, NBC and Peacock). Donavan Brazier, Josh Hoey go from track wilderness to national championships spotlight The men's 800m at the Toyota USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships is shaping up to be a classic.
