McDonald's India launches Protein Plus Slice in collaboration with CSIR-CFTRI, enabling protein-rich customisation

Westlife Foodworld Ltd, the operator of McDonald's restaurants in West and South India, announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind 'Protein Plus Slice'—a 100% vegetarian, plant-based innovation aimed at giving customers enhanced protein choices in their meals. The slice, developed in collaboration with the CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), adds 5 grams of protein to any burger and contains no onion, garlic, artificial colours or flavours.
Unveiled on July 24, the Protein Plus Slice is now available at all McDonald's outlets across West and South India. Customers can add one, two or even three slices to their favourite burgers, thereby boosting protein intake without compromising on taste. For example, with this addition, McSpicy Paneer now offers 25.29g of protein, McChicken delivers 20.66g, McVeggie 15.24g, and McAloo Tikki 13.5g.
The new innovation is part of the company's 'Real Food, Real Good' initiative, which has been in place for the past seven years. McDonald's India also launched special Protein Plus Meals—vegetarian and non-vegetarian combos paired with Coke Zero and other protein-rich side options like corn cups and chicken nuggets.
Akshay Jatia, CEO of Westlife Foodworld, noted the collaboration's significance, stating, 'We are giving customers the power to personalise their protein intake while enjoying the flavours they love.' CSIR-CFTRI Director Dr. Sridevi Annapurna Singh added that the Protein Plus Slice is a 'science-backed formulation' aimed at elevating everyday meals.
This marks the second partnership between McDonald's India and CSIR-CFTRI, following the successful launch of the Multi-Millet Bun last year. The Protein Plus range underscores a growing consumer awareness of nutrition and protein intake across India.

McDonald's (MCD) Targets Gen Z with Colorful Cold Brews and Dirty Sodas

Fast-food chain McDonald's (MCD) is getting ready to go beyond burgers and fries by testing a new line of colorful iced drinks this fall, according to The Wall Street Journal. The menu will feature items like Creamy Vanilla Cold Brews, Popping Tropic Refreshers, and 'dirty sodas' mixed with flavored syrups and dried fruit. Starting in September, about 500 restaurants in Wisconsin and Colorado will offer the drinks. This shift is part of a bigger trend in the fast food industry, where premium beverages are driving growth for rivals, especially as Gen Z customers look for fun and unique drink options. Interestingly, drinks have become one of the fastest-growing parts of the restaurant business, especially as inflation causes people to spend less on full meals. Indeed, research firm Technomic reported that beverage- and snack-focused chains saw nearly 10% sales growth in 2024, compared to 1.4% growth for burger-focused chains. Drinks also tend to bring in higher profits. As a result, McDonald's believes that the drink market could be worth $100 billion across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Europe. Unsurprisingly, the company's latest plan builds on what it learned from CosMc's, which was an alien-themed spinoff that it launched in 2023 to test specialty drinks. While some items, such as the Churro Cold Brew Frappé, were popular, others failed to connect with customers, and McDonald's ended the concept in May 2025. Nevertheless, McDonald's new drink strategy includes simpler customization options and different flavors for international markets. With competitors also releasing new drinks, McDonald's says it wants to move quickly to claim its spot. Is MCD Stock a Good Buy? Overall, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on MCD stock based on 14 Buys, 13 Holds, and two Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Furthermore, the average MCD price target of $335.87 per share implies 13.7% upside potential.

Po Valley Energy (ASX:PVE) Is Investing Its Capital With Increasing Efficiency

There are a few key trends to look for if we want to identify the next multi-bagger. In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. Basically this means that a company has profitable initiatives that it can continue to reinvest in, which is a trait of a compounding machine. So when we looked at the ROCE trend of Po Valley Energy (ASX:PVE) we really liked what we saw. This technology could replace computers: discover the 20 stocks are working to make quantum computing a reality. Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It? For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. To calculate this metric for Po Valley Energy, this is the formula: Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities) 0.20 = €3.4m ÷ (€18m - €1.2m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2024). Therefore, Po Valley Energy has an ROCE of 20%. That's a fantastic return and not only that, it outpaces the average of 6.5% earned by companies in a similar industry. View our latest analysis for Po Valley Energy Above you can see how the current ROCE for Po Valley Energy compares to its prior returns on capital, but there's only so much you can tell from the past. The fact that Po Valley Energy is now generating some pre-tax profits from its prior investments is very encouraging. The company was generating losses five years ago, but now it's earning 20% which is a sight for sore eyes. In addition to that, Po Valley Energy is employing 148% more capital than previously which is expected of a company that's trying to break into profitability. This can indicate that there's plenty of opportunities to invest capital internally and at ever higher rates, both common traits of a multi-bagger. One more thing to note, Po Valley Energy has decreased current liabilities to 6.4% of total assets over this period, which effectively reduces the amount of funding from suppliers or short-term creditors. Therefore we can rest assured that the growth in ROCE is a result of the business' fundamental improvements, rather than a cooking class featuring this company's books. In Conclusion... McDonald's to test drinks from shuttering CosMc's spinoff at some restaurants

McDonald's is planning to test a new lineup of drinks inspired by its shuttering spinoff brand, CosMc's, at some restaurants later this summer. The fast food giant announced July 25 that roughly 500 select restaurants in some states will be part of an expanded market test for the drinks. The drinks will be aimed at "blending the best of CosMc's creativity with the convenience you know and love." Some of the drinks that will be in the lineup include a Creamy Vanilla Cold Brew and a Strawberry Watermelon Refresher, McDonald's said. CosMc's is a spinoff concept McDonald's announced in 2023 and rolled out last year. In May, McDonald's said it would be closing its five CosMc's locations, in states including Texas and Illinois, but that it planned to test some of the drinks in its regular restaurants. When is McDonald's introducing CosMc's drinks menu? McDonald's said it will begin rolling out market testing of the CosMc's drinks on Sept. 2. It's unclear how long the test will run for. Which CosMc's drinks will be tested at McDonald's? McDonald's said it's planning on including about 10 drinks in the test. Five were teased in the July 25 announcement, including: Which McDonald's will have CosMc's drinks? About 500 restaurants will be included in the market test, McDonald's said. It includes restaurants across Wisconsin, Colorado and the surrounding areas, according to the chain. McDonald's operates more than 14,000 locations in the United States. What is CosMc's? What to know about McDonald's spinoff brand CosMc's is a spinoff restaurant concept owned by McDonald's. While McDonald's launched five CosMc's in 2024, the company previously announced all of them would close on a rolling basis beginning this past June. The name and futuristic aesthetic of CosMc's was inspired by a mascot of the same name who appeared in ads in the late '80s and early '90s. CosMc's menu primarily features beverages including coffees, teas and frozen drinks. Soft-serve ice cream, sandwiches and small food items are also available.
