The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender gets hit with its second delay

Engadget17-05-2025
When the world needed him most, he got delayed once again. Paramount Pictures announced the second delay for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender , the upcoming movie that follows the journey of Aang and Team Avatar after the events of the beloved animated series that was released in 2005. Instead of January 30, 2026, the new film will make its way to movie theaters on October 9, 2026, as first reported by Variety .
Paramount Pictures didn't provide a reason for the delay, but this setback follows a previous postponing that bumped it from its original release date on October 10, 2025. However, there are no changes to the already-announced cast and crew, which includes Dave Bautista, Steven Yuen and Eric Nam, with Lauren Montgomery and William Mata as co-directors.
This delay could be good news, though. Paramount Pictures also revealed that it's pushing back the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 sequel from its October 9, 2026 opening date to September 17, 2027. This move frees up the slot for The Legend of Aang to make a fall release, which could attract more attention than being premiered in January.
To keep us from breaking out the pitchforks, the film studio at least revealed the new logo for the film on its Instagram. If you're itching for Avatar content, Netflix renewed its live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender for two more seasons, the next of which is expected to release in early 2026. If you're only interested in new material, the next avatar is expected to make her debut in 2027 in a series titled Avatar: Seven Havens .

Microsoft to Lay Off Thousands; Xbox Chief Says Gaming Division Cuts Will Remove ‘Layers of Management'

Microsoft is set to layoff thousands of employees worldwide Wednesday, including some in the Microsoft Gaming/Xbox division. Variety has confirmed the total number of staff impacted is under 4% of Microsoft's global workforce, which totals approximately 228,000 employees. 'We continue to implement organizational and workforce changes that are necessary to position the company and teams for success in a dynamic marketplace,' a Microsoft spokesperson said Wednesday. More from Variety Xbox Teams With Meta Quest to Launch Special Edition VR Headset Xbox's Next-Gen Console to Be Powered by AMD (Gaming News Roundup) Why an Xbox Video Game Franchise Is a Partner in a Major Exhibit at The Louvre Museum 'To position Gaming for enduring success and allow us to focus on strategic growth areas, we will end or decrease work in certain areas of the business and follow Microsoft's lead in removing layers of management to increase agility and effectiveness,' Microsoft Gaming chief Phil Spencer said in a memo to staff Wednesday morning. 'Out of respect for those impacted today, the specifics of today's notifications and any organizational shifts will be shared by your team leaders in the coming days.' Additional details regarding the Microsoft layoffs and which divisions have been impacted (sources tell Variety that the cuts in gaming do not make up the majority) are expected to be shared later Wednesday. See below for Spencer's full memo to staff, which was sent Wednesday and obtained by Variety, announcing the company-wide layoffs and how they will impact Xbox below. Today we are sharing decisions that will impact colleagues across our organization. To position Gaming for enduring success and allow us to focus on strategic growth areas, we will end or decrease work in certain areas of the business and follow Microsoft's lead in removing layers of management to increase agility and effectiveness. Out of respect for those impacted today, the specifics of today's notifications and any organizational shifts will be shared by your team leaders in the coming days. I recognize that these changes come at a time when we have more players, games, and gaming hours than ever before. Our platform, hardware, and game roadmap have never looked stronger. The success we're seeing currently is based on tough decisions we've made previously. We must make choices now for continued success in future years and a key part of that strategy is the discipline to prioritize the strongest opportunities. We will protect what is thriving and concentrate effort on areas with the greatest potential, while delivering on the expectations the company has for our business. This focused approach means we can deliver exceptional games and experiences for players for generations to come. Prioritizing our opportunities is essential, but that does not lessen the significance of this moment. Simply put, we would not be where we are today without the time, energy, and creativity of those whose roles are impacted. These decisions are not a reflection of the talent, creativity, and dedication of the people involved. Our momentum is not accidental—it is the result of years of dedicated effort from our teams. HR is working directly with impacted employees to provide severance plan benefits (aligned with local laws), including pay, healthcare coverage, and job placement resources to support their transition. Employees whose roles were eliminated are encouraged to explore open positions across Microsoft Gaming, where their applications will be given priority review. Thank you to everyone who has shaped our culture, our products, and our community. We will move forward with deep appreciation and respect for all who have contributed to this journey. File Photo by Chris Chew/UPI | License Photo July 2 (UPI) -- It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator and star Rob McElhenney is changing his legal name. The actor, 48, explained why he is now going by Rob Mac in a video he shared to Instagram Tuesday. "Yes, I'm shortening my name to Rob Mac. Mostly a stage name, but I digress. Is it kind of douchey? Sure, but the amount of time that I have wasted trying to get people to either say or spell my name correctly is literally days of my life. Trust me, I added it up," he said. He assured fans the name change has nothing to do with family estrangement. "I love them and I want to stay connected," he said. He clarified, however, that the spelling of his surname has changed several times over the generations. "Most people already call me Rob Mac anyway," he added. He first announced the news in a story for Variety. TMZ reported last week that the actor had filed the documents for his name change in Los Angeles.

Continue reading to learn about her legacy and to take a stroll back to some of her greatest hits. Melissa Arnette Elliott was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. After rising from a challenging childhood marked by poverty and abuse, she started her career in the early '90s as a member of the R&B group Sista. Elliott finally got her big break when she teamed up with childhood friend and producer Timbaland. Together, they revolutionized the sound of hip-hop and R&B in the mid-1900s. The duo masterfully crafted hits for Aaliyah, Ginuwine, and 702 before Missy stepped into the spotlight with her own solo debut. That debut came in the form of her 1997 album Supa Dupa Fly, which turned out to be a game changer, both musically and visually. Known for her genre-blending sounds, bold and provocative lyrics, and futuristic music video, Misdemeanor quickly established herself as a creative force. She followed up with a series of successful albums, including Da Real World, Miss E.. So Addictive, Under Construction, and This Is Not a Test! With these albums came some of her most iconic hits like 'Get Ur Freak On,' 'Work It,' and 'Lose Control.' The music seamlessly fused rap, R&B, electronic, funk, and pop influences. Elliott was lauded for championing body positivity, female empowerment, and unapologetic originality. Despite stepping away from the spotlight in the late 2000s due to health struggles, her influence never faded. She made her triumphant return in 2015 with the track 'WTF (Where They From).' She also received critical acclaim for her 2019 EP Iconology. Over the course of her illustrious career, she has earned numerous accolades, including four Grammy Awards and the MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard. In 2023, she reached a monumental milestone by becoming the first female rapper into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As successful as she was, Elliott's impact goes far beyond just the music charts. She quite frankly redefined what it meant to be a female rapper. In doing so, she opened the doors for future generations of women in hip hop. She changed the landscape of the game forever with her inventive videos, groundbreaking production work and boundary-pushing sound.
