MSMEDA allocates EGP 400m to support micro enterprises via Tasaheel
The agreement was signed by Nevine Badr El-Din, Head of the Central Microfinance Sector at MSMEDA, and Mounir Nakhla, Chairperson of Tasaheel, in the presence of MSMEDA CEO Bassel Rahmy and Deputy CEO Mohamed Medhat.
Rahmy affirmed MSMEDA's ongoing efforts to broaden access to microfinance through partnerships with a wider network of microfinance institutions. This initiative, he said, supports self-employment and the establishment of productive, sustainable businesses that generate decent job opportunities.
He explained that the contract is designed to finance both newly established and existing micro-enterprises, helping them to expand, upgrade operations, and purchase equipment. This, in turn, is expected to contribute to increased productivity and job creation—both permanent and temporary—across various sectors.
According to Rahmy, the agreement is projected to finance around 8,000 micro-enterprises, with average funding estimated at EGP 266,000 per project, depending on the specific needs of each enterprise. Funds may be used for working capital or investment in fixed assets such as machinery.
He noted that this initiative is part of MSMEDA's broader 2025 strategy to scale up micro-enterprise financing, a critical driver of employment generation in Egypt. It aligns with the directives of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who chairs the agency's board, to increase the sector's contribution to the national economy—particularly in local manufacturing and agriculture.
Mounir Nakhla expressed pride in Tasaheel's continued partnership with MSMEDA, describing it as a successful model of public-private cooperation aimed at empowering micro-entrepreneurs.
'This agreement will help improve the quality of life for Egyptian families by creating sustainable jobs across governorates and driving inclusive economic development,' he said.
Nevine Badr El-Din highlighted the success of previous contracts between the two parties. The first agreement, signed in 2017, financed 2,257 micro-enterprises with a total value of EGP 28m, with women representing 52% of beneficiaries. Under the second agreement in 2022, approximately 37,459 micro-enterprises received a combined total of EGP 307m, again with over 50% of the recipients being women.

The package, mounting to €4 billion, targets supporting Egypt's efforts in facing multiple economic and developmental challenges amid regional and international instability. Abdelatty expressed Egypt's keenness to further enhance economic, investment, and trade relations with the EU across various sectors, in light of the Egyptian government's efforts to attract foreign investments. The call also addressed the issue of migration. The Egyptian FM stressed the importance of linking migration with development and addressing the root causes of irregular migration. He underscored the need to strengthen the partnership in the area of regular migration and to support European investments in Egypt in ways that contribute to job creation. New accords on trade, security strengthen Egypt-Oman Relations
Talks between the foreign ministers of Egypt and Oman in Cairo on Tuesday concluded with the signing of seven agreements to enhance cooperation in areas ranging from investment and labour to regional security. Egyptian Foreign and Emigration Minister Badr Abdelatty hosted his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, for the 16th session of the Egyptian-Omani Joint Committee. The talks resulted in new memorandums of understanding covering labour, mineral wealth, investment promotion, media cooperation, food safety, and religious affairs. According to a statement from Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf, the discussions were aimed at strengthening all aspects of their bilateral relationship, in line with directives from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt's desire for a 'qualitative leap' in economic integration, particularly in trade, industry, renewable energy—including green hydrogen and ammonia—logistics, and technology. He stressed the need to activate a joint business council and affirmed that Egyptian companies are prepared to contribute to development projects outlined in Oman's Vision 2040. A key proposal involved enhancing cooperation between the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the Duqm Special Economic Zone Authority in maritime transport and logistics. The talks also addressed tensions between Iran and Israel, with both ministers stressing the importance of stabilising the ceasefire and favouring diplomatic solutions for the Iranian nuclear file to reduce regional tensions. They found a convergence of views on developments in Yemen, Syria, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa. From his side, Omani Minister Al Busaidi conveyed greetings from Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to President Sisi and praised the deep ties between the two nations across trade, culture, and education. The meeting, which was also attended by Egyptian Minister of Labour Mohamed Gibran, touched upon the status of the Egyptian community in Oman. Egypt, Germany discuss development finance, partnership priorities at Seville Conference
Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rania Al-Mashat, met with her new German counterpart, Reem Alabali-Radovan, on Tuesday to discuss strengthening partnership priorities, expanding development finance, and advancing debt-for-development swaps. The meeting took place during the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (Ff4D) in Seville, where a high-level Egyptian delegation is being led by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The ministers emphasised the conference's importance in advancing global efforts to restructure the financial system and mobilise private sector investment. The discussions covered preparations for the 2025 joint governmental negotiations on economic cooperation and new tranches within the Egyptian-German debt swap programme. The bilateral economic cooperation portfolio between the two countries currently stands at 1.6 billion euros, funding projects in priority sectors such as energy, climate, water, and private sector competitiveness. Al-Mashat congratulated Alabali-Radovan on her new position in the government led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, stating that this new phase presented an opportunity to deepen the established bilateral relations. A key topic was the success of the debt swap programme, which began in 2011. A new tranche valued at 21 million euros (equivalent to 1.2 billion EGP) was recently signed to improve renewable energy supplies.
