Gunfight continues for 2nd day in J&K's Kishtwar
Security forces had started a CASO (Cordon and Search Operation) in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district on Wednesday evening after intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in the area.
As the security forces closed in on the hiding terrorists, they fired, triggering an encounter.
Latest reports from the area said that the encounter continued in the area with intermittent firing from the two sides.
Army's Nagrota headquartered WhiteKnight corps said on X on Wednesday, 'Based on specific #intelligence a joint search operation was underway in Kanzal Mandu, #Kishtwar. Contact has been established with the #terrorists and #operations are in progress.'
On June 26, one terrorist was killed in a gunfight between the security forces and the terrorists in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district.
Wednesday's gunfight between the terrorists and the security forces started on a day when the first batch of this year's annual Amarnath Yatra reached the two base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal.
On April 22, Pakistan backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists killed 26 civilians in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam after segregating them on the basis of faith. The entire country was outraged by the dastardly terror attack.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a free hand to the armed forces to avenge the terror attack.
The Indian Armed Forces targeted nine terror infrastructures deep inside Pakistan and also in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The target-specific strikes were carried out by the armed forces in Muridke near Lahore, in Bahawalpur and Kotli, and Muzaffarabad in PoK.
After escalation, 11 defence bases of Pakistan were also attacked by the Indian Armed Forces.
In retaliation, Pakistan shelled heavy mortars on civilian facilities in Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Eighteen civilians were killed in Pakistan's shelling on civilian facilities in the union territory, 13 of them in Poonch district.
Scores of homes and shops, in addition to a temple, a Gurudwara and a church, were also destroyed in Pakistan's shelling on civilian facilities.

Lawmakers on Thursday urged government officials to intensify awareness campaigns against digital arrests — a relatively new form of cybercrime that has seen a sharp rise in recent times. The agency also maintained that unless such cases are specifically referred by states, or entrusted by high courts or the Supreme Court, the bureau 'lacks the jurisdictional mandate to proceed' as the IT law, 2000 requires it to obtain the state's consent to undertake investigations. In March, the government made a submission to the Rajya Sabha that digital arrests and related cybercrimes have almost tripled in the country between 2022 and 2024, with defrauded amounts skyrocketing by 21 times during the period. Functionaries said that MPs insisted on more awareness campaigns. One of the MPs pointed out that even when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked people to protect themselves against digital arrest, awareness drives lack momentum. In his Mann Ki Baat address on October 27 last year, Modi told people that Indian law doesn't have any provision for digital arrest and that government agencies will never contact people via video calls or phone calls for any investigation. During the meeting, MPs suggested that government agencies should consider campaigns in cinema halls, OTT platforms and popular TV channels. They also urged the government to conduct awareness drives in schools and colleges to educate young people. According to a PIB press release on March 2025, the Centre had launched 'a comprehensive awareness programme on digital arrest scams which, inter-alia, include; newspaper advertisement, announcement in Delhi Metros, use of social media influencers to create special posts, campaign through Prasar Bharti and electronic media, special programme on Aakashvani and participated in Raahgiri Function at Connaught Place'.

'During our discussion, I asked him directly, 'Why isn't Microsoft investing in Pakistan?" He leaned in, sharing in confidence that he had just spoken with PM Imran Khan and arranged a call between the PM and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. In a hushed tone, he asked me to keep it quiet, revealing that 'all is set and within two months, the PM and I will announce a major Microsoft investment in Pakistan," Alvi said. Jawwad Rehman, who set up and led Microsoft's Pakistan unit, informed about Microsoft's decision to close down its operations in the country in a LinkedIn post. According to a Microsoft spokesperson said, 'As a part of regular process of business evaluation and optimization, we are changing our operating model in Pakistan. Our customer agreements and service will not be affected by this change. We will serve our customers through both our strong and extensive partner organization, and other closely located Microsoft offices." We follow this model successfully in a number of other countries around the world. Our customers remain our top priority and can expect the same high level of service going forward, the spokesperson said. On Wednesday, July 2, IT giant Microsoft said it is laying off about 9,000 employees, or 4% of its workforce, in the latest round of job cuts. The latest layoffs are part of Microsoft's restructuring efforts amid AI investments. The company began sending out layoff notices Wednesday. This is the third round of layoffs this year, after about 6,000 jobs cuts (3% of its workforce) in May and over 300 sackings just a week after. In a statement, Microsoft said the cuts will affect multiple teams around the world, including its sales division and its Xbox video game business.
