Man accused in 2018 death of Ethan Hauschultz requests outside jury due to pre-trial publicity
Court records show that 54-year-old Timothy Hauschultz appeared in court Friday with his attorney to file the motion. The defense argued that intense media coverage would make it difficult to seat an impartial jury from Manitowoc County.

Earlier this year, Hauschultz was set to plead guilty to two counts of party to a crime—child abuse, intentionally causing harm. Under the proposed plea deal, several charges, including felony murder, contributing to delinquency resulting in death, contributing to delinquency (felony), and additional child abuse and battery charges would have been dismissed but read into the record.
However, the victim's family opposed the plea agreement, and the judge ruled it was not in the public's best interest. Despite defense efforts to negotiate a compromise, the deal was ultimately rejected.

The charges stem from an incident in which Ethan was reportedly forced to carry a heavy log as punishment. Police say while doing so, he was kicked, hit, and knocked to the ground by Timothy's then-15-year-old son, Damian Hauschultz. Damian allegedly rolled the log on top of Ethan and buried him in the snow, leading to the child's death.
At the time, Timothy Hauschultz was Ethan's legal guardian.

to 20 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision for his role in the death. Tina McKeever-Hauschultz, who was also involved, served five years in prison and was released to extended supervision in January 2024.
Timothy Hauschultz will be back in court on May 28 for a scheduling conference. His pre-trial conference is on September 4 before his eight-day jury trial starting on October 1.

One critically injured, driver arrested for OWI after crash into Two Rivers home
TWO RIVERS, Wis. (WFRV) – Following a crash into a Two Rivers home on Wednesday night, a passenger was critically injured and the driver was arrested for their second OWI charge. Just after 10:05 p.m. on July 2, the Two Rivers Police Department stated that first responders were called to the 2700 block of River Lane for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a home. Three horses euthanized, dozens rescued in Wisconsin animal neglect case Officers noted that the vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old man, failed to navigate a T-intersection at Washington and 27th Street, drove over the curb, and crashed into a house. The driver was treated at a local hospital and was later booked into the Manitowoc County Jail. A passenger of the vehicle, however, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Rural CF man sentenced to prison for fifth drunk-driving offense
CHIPPEWA FALLS — A rural Chippewa Falls man who drove his car into a ditch in February 2022 was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison for his fifth drunk-driving offense. Robert A. Ratajczyk, 62, 8043 Highway 124, was convicted by a Chippewa County jury last Thursday of OWI-fifth offense. It was a one-day trial, and the jury returned with its verdict just 70 minutes after they left the courtroom to begin deliberations. Judge Steve Gibbs then sentenced Ratajczyk on Tuesday, ordering him to serve the 18-month prison sentence, followed by 18 months of extended supervision. While on extended supervision, Ratajczyk cannot consume alcohol, enter taverns, or drive. Ratajczyk must pay $1,704 in court costs and fines, and his driver's license was suspended for three years. He was given credit for two days already served. He also is eligible for a substance abuse program. According to the criminal complaint, a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper assisted at the scene of a one-vehicle crash on Feb. 9, 2022, on Highway S in the town of Eagle Point. The officer noted that roads were dry and free of ice. A wrecker had pulled the vehicle from the ditch as the officer was arriving. The officer spoke to the driver, Ratajczyk, and the officer observed signs of alcohol use. Ratajczyk failed field sobriety tests, and he tested for a .123 blood-alcohol level. He was arrested and taken to an area hospital. Court records show Ratajczyk was convicted of his fourth drunk-driving offense after a 2009 arrest in Eau Claire County.
