Meet Bollywood director who was once on a gangster hit list, quit filmmaking, took CID training to save his life, his name is…
The director who once faced threatening warnings from gangsters was none other than Rajiv Rai. The director said that he had received death threats from gangsters. Not only this, when Bollywood was getting threats from the underworld, his office was also attacked, after which he shifted to the UK. But he has now returned to India. Rajiv Rai on One of the Scariest Times in His Life
In the interview, while recalling his terrifying experiences in the 90s, the director revealed that the police had instructed him not to answer calls from the underworld and even advised him to undergo CID training for his safety.
He said, 'The problem started after the film Gupt. After that, I did two films which were not as expected. So, this was also very disturbing for me. The next day I got a call on my landline. No one asked for money. I didn't say anything, I never came on the phone, we never talked. I immediately called the police and they told me not to talk.'
He further said, 'We had recorders in our office; everything was recorded and sent to the police. I must have said hello on the first call, I understood something was wrong. I talked for four seconds, then I pretended as if I was someone else. I think whatever calls I used to get at that time, the motive must have been money.' When Rajiv Rai Was Attacked
Rajiv Rai recalled the time when he was attacked in his office in 1997. The director said that he was attacked by a bunch of men with guns and bullets. However, he was not very comfortable talking about the same.
On leaving the country due to threats, Rajiv Rai said, 'I left because of pressure. My father was not well. I had to take care of him. I could not bear his death. I thought if I get shot then who will take care of him. My son was also not well. He is autistic and I had to teach him. There were a lot of threats. So I had a lot of reasons. I thought I should take a decision.'

Filmmaker Rajiv Rai Backs Dhanush On AI-Edited Raanjhanaa Ending: 'Don't Know If That's Legally…'
Dhanush and director Aanand L Rai criticised the AI-altered ending of Raanjhanaa. Filmmaker Rajiv Rai supported Dhanush, questioning the legality of the change. Raanjhanaa AI Ending Controversy: After filmmaker Aanand L Rai, Dhanush expressed his displeasure over the Raanjhanaa edit controversy. He said that the new version 'has stripped the film of its very soul". Amid the debate, Gupt director Rajiv Rai backed Dhanush and echoed his sentiments about the film's AI-altered ending. Expressing his concern, Rai admitted that he wasn't sure if the move was legally right. Rajiv Rai, who has helmed blockbusters such as Tridev, Mohra and Gupt, backed Dhanush. He said, 'Dhanush is right, if the actor is offended or doesn't agree with the script he okayed the end and you go and take an AI and do it that's unfair and I don't. Know if that's legally right I think I should be done in confidence with the actors or they should have shot with him so I don't know the story I think it's okay to change the end." He added, 'I don't know it's a professional thing to do I don't think that would have changed the fate of the film, why do it it's not going to change the fate of the film I mean they could but I don't think here because people have already watched the film." What did Dhanush say about Raanjhanaa ending? Speaking out across his social media on Sunday, Dhanush criticised the altered version and made it clear he was never on board. 'The re-release of 'Raanjhanaa' with an AI-altered climax has completely disturbed me. This alternate ending has stripped the film of its very soul, and the concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection." He added, 'This is not the film I committed to 12 years ago. The use of AI to alter films or content is a deeply concerning precedent for both art and artists. It threatens the integrity of storytelling and the legacy of cinema. I sincerely hope that stricter regulations are put in place to prevent such practices in the future." What is the Raanjhanaa AI-edit controversy about? Dhanush and Sonam's Raanjhanaa ends on a melancholic note. His character, Kundan, dies after being shot, with Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) by his side. In the new AI version, Kundan survives and opens his eyes in the hospital as Bindiya (Swara Bhasker) and Murari (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) tear up in joy. Eros International, producers of Raanjhanaa, recently decided to alter the film's ending to a 'happier note' using AI. Recently, Eros explicitly rejected Aanand's allegations, calling the altered ending just a 'creative re-imagination" and not a replacement. This didn't sit well with director Aanand L Rai, and other who's who from the film industry, who has slammed Eros for the move. Rai mentioned that the makers didn't consult him before redoing the film's ending via AI. Previously, he had requested the producers to remove his name from the film's credits. Raanjhanaa also starred Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Abhay Deol, Swara Bhasker in pivotal roles. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Odisha board vice-president held in teacher eligibility test question paper leak
Bhubaneswar: The vice-president of the Odisha Board of Secondary Education was arrested on Sunday, ten days after the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) was cancelled due to a leaked handwritten question paper that went viral on social media, affecting nearly 75,000 candidates. The Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) was cancelled due to a leaked handwritten question paper that went viral on social media, affecting nearly 75,000 candidates. (Representative photo) Nihar Ranjan Mohanty, vice-president of the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), was involved in setting the OTET question papers and was coordinating with a Bhopal-based firm that printed the papers, state crime investigation department (CID) chief Vinaytosh Mishra said. 'But before the question papers went for printing, the firm had sent a password-protected copy of the paper to Mohanty for proofreading. Mohanty was supposed to download and delete the file after proofreading. However, he allowed Jitan Moharana, a data entry operator working in the office of the controller of examinations, to access his laptop who leaked the papers,' Mishra said. So far, seven others, including a teacher, have been arrested in connection with the paper leak. The CID found the proofread copy on Mohanty's laptop, which led to his interrogation. Over 100 telephone calls between Mohanty and Moharana over the past three months, outside of office hours, were found in the call logs. Mohanty, who has been overseeing examinations for the past 11 years, was arrested based on evidence collected. Moharana and five others were arrested on July 30, following which a teacher was nabbed. Moharana had access to the vice-president's laptop and obtained the question paper using a pen drive. He then shared it with the working president of the State Ex-cadre Teachers' Association and its Koraput unit head, who sold the paper to three brokers for ₹2.5 lakh. The BSE conducts final examinations for various state-sponsored courses, including Class X board exams, OTET, Odisha Secondary School Teacher Eligibility Test (OSSTET), Teachers' Certificate (CT) examination, Certificate Course in Physical Education Examination (CPEd), and the Prathama and Madhyama examinations.
