Two lakh devotees are expected to visit Simhachalam temple on Chandanotsavam day on April 30, says Andhra Pradesh Home Minister
During her visit, Ms. Anitha inspected the queue lines and the other arrangements being made for the devotees. The Collector and the Joint Collector briefed her about the arrangements made so far. She also enquired about basic amenities, including drinking water, toilets, medical kiosks, Annadanam and prasadams distribution, being provided for devotees. She also questioned about the measures being taken in view of heatwave conditions.
Later, the Home Minister also enquired about the security arrangements, deployment of police personnel, CCTV cameras, traffic movement, crowd management mechanism and transportation facilities for the festival.
Speaking to the media, Ms. Anitha said that every year, around 1.20 lakh to 1.40 lakh people visit the temple to witness the 'Nijaroopa' darshanam of the deity. But in recent times, the number of devotees thronging the major temples during the festival days in Vijayawada, Tirupati, Srisailam etc has seen at least 30% increase. Keeping this in view, we are expecting two lakh devotees to visit Simhachalam on the day, the Home Minister said.
She said that the State government was giving high priority to the general devotees and strict directions were issued to ensure they do not face any inconvenience. Special attention would be also paid to the differently-abled, women with infants and elderly persons, she said. She also said that special buses would be arranged to transport devotees to the temple.
'Milk, buttermilk, biscuits, prasadams will be distributed to the devotees throughout the queue lines. Fans were arranged at almost every place. Wherever there are no fans, we will also issue hand-pankhas to the devotees in view of the heat,' Ms. Anitha said.

Collector stresses on micro-level flood preparedness measures in Eluru district
With flood threats mounting over the Godavari region, Eluru Collector K. Vetri Selvi directed all the departments to adopt micro-level planning and execute a robust disaster management action plan to tackle both riverine and flash floods. At a review meeting on Tuesday, the Collector emphasised early preparedness under the Flood Contingency Plan, calling for the formation of disaster response committees at the village, mandal, and division levels. Officials were instructed to maintain updated emergency contact lists and keep resources ready from key departments such as Revenue, Police, Irrigation, Electricity, and Fire Services. To ensure real-time responsiveness, a 24x7 control room will be set up and mandal-level WhatsApp groups formed for emergency alerts. Inter-district coordination teams involving ASR, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, and Krishna districts will also be activated. In flood-prone areas like Kukkunoor and Velerupadu, phased evacuation plans have been ordered based on flood alert levels. Relief centres will be jointly inspected by RWS, DPO, electricity, and MPDO officials to ensure essential services such as food stocks, temporary toilets, and medical kits are available. Health teams have been directed to prepare for outbreaks of dengue, diarrhoea, and viral fevers, with medicines and mobile ambulances on standby. Rescue infrastructure that consists of JCBs, boats, and fire safety equipment will be pre-positioned, and the RTC has been asked to ready buses for evacuation. Veterinary officials were told to stock fodder and launch awareness drives on livestock safety. Repairs to damaged buildings, deployment of drones for aerial surveillance, and intensified sanitation measures have also been planned. Joint Collector P. Dhatri Reddy said generators and essential goods for three months are in place, and rehabilitation centres are being identified for displaced families. The Joint Collector added that generators have been prepared for power backup and that stockpiles of essential commodities have been secured for the next three months. She emphasised the need to identify and equip rehabilitation centres with proper infrastructure. The meeting saw participation from district officials across departments.

Visakhapatnam gears up for ‘Giri Pradakshina'
The district officials are gearing up for the annual 'Giri Pradakshina' festival of Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy of Simhachalam scheduled for July 9. The event is expected to draw a massive turnout of around three to four lakh devotees, who will undertake the 32-kilometre pilgrimage on foot. The authorities, who had organised the International Yoga Day (June 21) after a month of tireless efforts and seamless coordination, are once again gearing up to ensure a smooth conduct of the event. District officials, city police, and Simhachalam Devasthanam representatives had organised few meetings several weeks ago to plan the logistics. Given the recent wall collapse at the Devasthanam during the 'Chandanotsavam', officials have decided to take additional care on the safety measures for this event. While monitoring traffic, crowd management and crime prevention will be overseen by the city police, providing essential services such as drinking water, street lighting, and bio-toilets for the devotees is the responsibility of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). 'A few public representatives had expressed dissatisfaction over last year's arrangements during a council meeting,' a senior GVMC official stated. Areas like night-time worker deployment and better street illumination were flagged for improvement. So yes, the pressure is definitely on, he added. Road conditions, including lighting, drainage, potholes, and other infrastructure, for the 32-km route, spanning Tholi Pavancha, Adavivaram, Mudasarlova, Hanumanthawaka, Appughar Beach, MVP Colony, HB Colony, Seethammadhara, Narasimha Nagar, Port Quarters Road, Madhavadhara, and NAD, needs to be evaluated and addressed before the festival. More than 1,500 police personnel, over 2,000 sanitation workers, and around 1,000 medical staff will be deployed for the event. Additionally, 20 to 30 trained swimmers will be on standby. Coordination among the fire department, RTC, EPDCL, and other agencies is also crucial to ensure the event's success.

Yogandhra grand success in Kurnool
Kurnool: As V Narendra Kumarpart of the Government's vision for a 'Healthy, Prosperous and Happy Andhra Pradesh,' the flagship Yogandhra initiative has been successfully conducted in Kurnool district, registering the highest participation across the State. Marking the International Day of Yoga, the district administration organised a mass yoga session at the Kurnool Outdoor Stadium under the supervision of the Kurnool Municipal Corporation on Saturday.. District Collector P Ranjith Basha, Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil, Joint Collector Dr B Navya, Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Babu, and several district officials, yoga practitioners, students, sanitation workers, employees, and women participated in the event. Addressing the gathering, Collector Basha said that the Chief Minister envisions a healthy, joyful, and prosperous society, and yoga plays a key role in achieving this goal. Highlighting the scale of participation, the Collector said Andhra Pradesh registered over 2.39 crore people for the Yogandhra initiative, with Kurnool alone contributing 12.76 lakh registrations—the highest in the state. Over the past month, various yoga-related activities and training sessions were conducted across the district in more than 5,287 venues, involving people from all walks of life. Competitions at village, mandal, and district levels were organized, with winners advancing to the state-level contests and receiving accolades from the administration. He urged every citizen to make yoga a regular part of daily life and informed that participation certificates are available for all attendees. Speaking on the occasion, Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Babu extended heartfelt gratitude to the students, women, officials, and citizens who actively took part in the program. Later, as part of the third Saturday 'Swachh Andhra - Swarna Andhra' initiative, the Collector led a cleanliness pledge and distributed saplings to promote environmental awareness. The event saw the presence of Kurnool RDO Sandeep Kumar, and educationist KV Subba Reddy, among others.
