ISP to conduct ACE patrols in July

PESOTUM – Illinois State Police Troop 7 Commander Heather Apperson announces ISP will conduct Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols in Macon and Vermilion counties during July. ACE patrols allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs. The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois. Officers working the detail will be watchful for motorists who show signs of impaired driving, operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license, and transporting open alcoholic beverages, as well as improper seatbelt and child restraint usage, distracted driving, and other Illinois Vehicle Code violations. Alcohol and drug impairment are estimated to be a factor in more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. There is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 39 minutes in the United States. The ACE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous DUI offenders from the road. This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Philadelphia school officer critical after shooting by alleged road rage driver

An armed driver got into a road rage incident before shooting and injuring a Philadelphia school safety officer trying to help someone involved in the incident, authorities said Sunday. Just before 2 a.m., officers were called out to the 300 block of North Christopher Columbus Boulevard, near Race Street Pier, for a report of gunshots, Philadelphia Police Inspector D F Pace said. When officers arrived, they found the school resource officer in his patrol vehicle, which he had crashed while trying to drive himself to the hospital after being shot. Pace said preliminary information into the investigation indicates that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident on Interstate 95 involving two civilian vehicles. He said operators of a black Dodge Ram pickup truck and a white Hyundai SUV became involved in an incident on the highway. The Dodge driver pulled off I-95 onto Columbus Boulevard and flagged down the school resource officer, who they thought was a Philadelphia police officer. Pace said the Dodge operator was from out of state and did not know the area. When the officer began to intervene, the driver or the white Hyundai SUV rolled up and opened fire striking the officer multiple times before fleeing the scene, according to Pace. Once medics were on scene they rushed the officer to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition but expected to survive. Police continue to search for the white Hyundai SUV.

Amber Alert issued for Idaho teens feared to be with religious polygamy group

Idaho State Police issued an Amber Alert for two teens whose mother and authorities believes they may be headed out of state to meet a religious group known for practicing polygamy. On June 22, siblings Allen Larand Fischer, 13, and Rachelle Leray Fischer, 15, were reported missing from their home in Monteview, an unincorporated community in Jefferson County. At the time the brother and sister vanished, the children were living with their family's home in the eastern region of the state, officials said. Troopers reported the children "may be with adult siblings" en route to a Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint (FLDS) group in Mendon, a city in northern Utah near where the children used to live. 'It is believed that the children willingly left to return to Trenton, Utah due to religious beliefs,' the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office posted in a news release statement. The town of Trenton is about 18 miles north of Mendon. "I'm very concerned," the children's mother Elizabeth Round, told East Idaho News. A former FLDS member, Round told the outlet she left the siblings at home to attend Sunday night Bible study and when she returned about two hours lageter, they were gone. "Somebody came by... and hauled off with them," Round said. In an interview, Roundy said the missing children may be with older siblings and members of the FLDS, she believes were involved in abducting her teenagers. Roundy was a member of the FLDS Church under she was exiled in 2020. Gone: Why wasn't an Amber Alert sent for the 3 sisters found dead in Washington? Description of missing Idaho teens Police described Allen as 5'9', 135 pounds with longer sandy blonde hair and blue eyes. The boy was last seen wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans. Officials said Rachelle is 5'5', 135 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a green dress. Anyone with information about the children or their possible sighting is asked to call 911 of the sheriff's office at at 208-745-9210 (Option 7). This is a developing story.
