CM Maryam vows to safeguard rights of workers
The CM said,' I salute the greatness of every worker, miner and labourer. A labourer is a friend of Allah Almighty and we profoundly value as well as hold in high esteem the friend of Allah Almighty. The miners and workers will be able to get a monthly subsidy of Rs 3000/ through ration cards.'
She added, 'Workers will be able to get 13 other benefits including digital cash transfer, advance salary and Labour Day prizes through JS Bank cards.'
The Chief Minister while congratulating the workers and labourers apprised that 50-bedded social security hospitals have been inaugurated in Kasur and Sargodha, while a 50-bedded social security hospital will also be built in Rahim Yar Khan for the workers and labourers. She apprised that state-of-the-art 'Wellness Centres' will be built in three cities for the welfare of workers.
The Chief Minister revealed that a first-of-its-kind 200-bedded modern cardiac city will be built in Lahore for the workers. She disclosed that 'Teleclinics' are being set up to provide medical treatment facilities to the workers from the best doctors. She said the inauguration of a labour colony in Taxila and a Workers Welfare Complex in the Sundar Industrial Estate is welcoming.
She said, 'A new labour colony will be built in Warburton and its Phase-II will be built in Multan. 300 Day Care Centres are being built for the convenience of female workers working in factories. For the first time, payment of minimum wage is being ensured across the province. I salute the greatness of our workers and labourers as without them no country can achieve progress and prosperity among the comity of nations.'

New official sugar prices notified for Karachi
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi on Sunday issued a new official price for sugar in the city, with a notification now in effect. According to the notification, the new wholesale price for sugar has been fixed at Rs 170 per kilogram, while the retail price is set at Rs 173 per kilogramme. Taxila, Harappa, Bhera declared 'heritage cities'
Listen to article The Punjab government has announced an ambitious plan to preserve and promote the province's rich historical legacy by declaring three cities — Taxila, Harappa, and Bhera — as official Heritage Cities. The initiative aims not only to highlight these locations on the international stage but also to stimulate local tourism, cultural preservation, and economic growth. An initial budget of Rs60 billion has been earmarked for the development and restoration of 60 key archaeological and historical sites across the province. According to Raja Jahangir Anwar, Secretary for Tourism and Archaeology, Taxila has been given special prominence and will be designated as an 'International Heritage City.' Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif hailed Taxila as the 'City of Civilisations,' acknowledging its profound historical significance, particularly its connections with the Gandhara civilisation and sacred Buddhist heritage. To oversee development in Taxila, a dedicated Taxila Heritage Authority has been established, complete with an independent master plan, budget, and administrative control. The first phase of the project includes the rehabilitation of roads, enhancement of tourism infrastructure, and renovation of museums and craft centres. The second phase will focus on the creation of an open-air museum, a Gandhara Art Village, and the conservation of other historically significant buildings to boost tourism appeal. Harappa, another ancient centre of early human civilisation, has also been included in the list of 60 priority sites, although no separate authority or master plan has been announced yet. The government plans to upgrade its archaeological sites, museum facilities, and excavation areas to meet international standards, with the goal of attracting greater numbers of foreign tourists. Regarding Bhera, the secretary said that while it is a sizable city with a population exceeding 350,000, the focus will be on restoring the old city, which is famed for its nine historical gates, ancient bazaars, Sufi shrines, wooden architecture, and narrow heritage-style streets. Although Bhera does not yet have an independent authority or comprehensive master plan, development work has already begun under the heritage city project. A PC-1 is currently under preparation to transform it into a full-fledged heritage zone in the near future.

Punjab govt launches ‘smart water plan' for Lahore
LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched an ambitious smart water management plan aimed at eliminating wastewater discharge into the River Ravi and achieving a waste-free water supply for Lahore. The plan includes the construction of six wastewater treatment plants at key outfall locations throughout the city. In the first phase, construction will begin on two major plants: the Babu Sabu plant, with an estimated cost of around Rs 60 billion, and the Kattar Bund plant, with estimated cost of Rs 23 billion. Both projects will be funded by international donor agencies. To discuss these initiatives, Punjab's Secretary for Housing, Urban Development, and Public Health, Noor ul Amin Mengal, chaired a meeting where Lahore Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) Managing Director Ghufran Ahmad provided an overview of the proposed plan. He explained, 'Instead of discharging sewage into the Ravi or canals, the treated water will be repurposed for agricultural use.' He also directed relevant departments to develop a coordinated plan for the agricultural reuse of water and stressed, 'Smart utilization of resources is crucial. Under the direction of the Punjab Chief Minister, we are addressing issues across all districts equally to ensure sustainable development and access to clean water for all.' In a separate meeting, WASA Punjab Director General Tayyab Fareed and WASA Rawalpindi Managing Director Saleem Ashraf provided an update on the master plan designed to revamp Rawalpindi's water and sewerage system. They reported that work is actively underway to develop a comprehensive water supply and sewerage master plan for Rawalpindi under the Punjab Development Programme. A critical component of this plan is the construction of the Chirah Dam, which will add 28 million gallons of water per day to the city's supply. Additionally, WASA Rawalpindi will install surface water treatment plants and develop a modern water distribution network to ensure all residents have access to clean water, as currently only 40 percent of the city's sewerage system is operational. The Secretary emphasized that this coverage would be expanded to 100 percent and that underground water tanks would be constructed throughout the city for efficient rainwater management.
