Hot tub horror as mother, 24, suffers fatal burns after hitting her head and falling into scalding water

Daily Mail06-06-2025
A woman suffered fatal burns after hitting her head and falling unconscious in a hot tub in a hotel.
Mother-of-one Gabriele Cristine Barreto de Freitas had was staying at a hotel in Curitiba, in the Brazilian state of Parana, with a man she had met at a party a week earlier.
The pair were reportedly both enjoying a soak in a hot tub in the hotel.
Her partner then got up to leave and Gabriele stayed behind. Once on her own, she reportedly hit her head and passed out, local media have reported.
It is understood that her partner heard Gabriele slip and fall in the tub.
She then woke up and her partner reportedly noticed her hand was peeling and her thigh had burn blisters.
The 24-year-old suffered third degree burns from the scalding water in the hot tub.
She was then rushed to a hospital, where her entire body was wrapped up in bandages.
She remained conscious at the hospital and was recording videos for her family.
Despite signs of recovery, six days later it was reported that Gabriele had suffered cardiac arrest and had died on June 5.
Her sister, Jenifer Vaniele Barreto, said: 'They arrived at the hotel and he turned on the tub to a hot temperature.
'The two went to shower, took a bath and he left first and went to bed. He heard her fall and slip in the tub.'
She added: 'We don't understand how Gabriele's death happened. No one gave us any answers, they just said she had a cardiac arrest and died, that's all.'
The police at the Curitiba Homicide Division have opened an investigation into Gabriele's death.
The man who she went to the hotel with has not yet been interviewed by the police, according to local media reports.
The family's lawyer Valter Ribeiro Junior said they are demanding tests on the hot tub's thermostat to see if it was faulty.
He said: 'It is unacceptable that someone goes to a hotel for leisure and leaves burnt to the point of dying days later.
'If it happened to her, it's probably going to happen to other people.
'It is possible that the equipment is not up to date and may have caused these burns.'
Gabriele leaves behind a five-year-old son, who is now being cared for by her mother.

Boy, 6, is killed in car crash as his three brothers fight for their lives in hospital

A six-year-old Texas boy was tragically killed and his three brothers critically injured when the UTV they were riding in flipped and tossed them all from the vehicle. Raul Chavez was riding in the Polaris UTV in Gainesville on July 13 with his siblings, aged between 6 and 13-years-old, when it lost control and rolled over. All four young boys were ejected in the devastating crash. 'It turned on one side, and my baby fell to the side,' Juarez told WFAA. 'It fell on him.' Raul tragically died from his injuries, according to Gainesville Police. He had no heartbeat by the time they reached the hospital, his mother, Ana Juarez, told the outlet. His 9-year-old brother was treated at Fort Worth hospital for pelvic fractures and bruises to his lungs and liver but was released Wednesday. He still has a long recovery ahead. 'We're taking it one day at a time,' his mother said. It's unclear at this time what the condition of the other two boys is. Police have not confirmed who was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. Police also did not announce what caused the vehicle to flip. A GoFundMe was created by a friend and student of Raul's mother, who described the little boy as 'a bright light - joyful, kind, full of curiosity and love.' 'There are no words to describe the depth of this tragedy,' the GoFundMe tribute states. 'His goal was to be a soccer goalie and could not wait to make those dreams come true,' the description continues. 'Their presence brought warmth to everyone around them. Now, their family is left not only grieving a heartbreaking loss but also facing overwhelming emotional and financial burdens.' The fundraiser has reached $7,393 of its $20,000 goal. A candlelight vigil is being held on July 21 in Raul's memory. The accident remains under investigation. 'Raul was more than just a player on the field he was a part of our family,' Ennis Soccer Association said in a July 14 Facebook post. 'A teammate, a brother, a friend. His spirit, kindness, and smile touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.'

Rubio revokes visa for Brazilian judge who went after Trump's buddy Bolsonaro

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reportedly revoked the visa of a Brazilian Supreme Court judge who oversaw the prosecution of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro — a man who President Donald Trump views as an ally. Bolsonaro is currently facing trial for his involvement in an alleged attempted coup to steal Brazil's 2022 election. Trump has likened the former president's attempted coup trial to his own Stormy Daniels hush-money trial, and called Bolsonaro's prosecution "unjust," according to the Daily Beast. 'I have seen the terrible treatment you are receiving at the hands of an unjust system turned against you,' Trump wrote in a letter he sent to Bolsonaro. 'This should end immediately!' This week, Rubio revoked the visa for Brazilian Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. He also targeted the judge's allies in the court and their family members, revoking their visas "effective immediately." Rubio justified the move in a post on social media, accusing those targeted of censoring "protected expression." '@POTUS made clear that his administration will hold accountable foreign nationals who are responsible for censorship of protected expression in the United States,' Rubio wrote on social media. Trump and his social media company, The Trump Media & Technology Group, sued de Moraes in February, accusing him of censoring conservatives on social media. Rubio's announcement came shortly after authorities in Brazil raided Bolsonaro's house and outfitted him with an ankle monitor. He has also been banned from contacting foreign officials. Rubio made clear his actions were in response to Brazil's moves to hold Bolsonaro accountable. 'Brazilian Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes's political witch hunt against Jair Bolsonaro created a persecution and censorship complex so sweeping that it not only violates basic rights of Brazilians, but also extends beyond Brazil's shores to target Americans,' Rubio said. Bolsonaro himself has echoed Trump's favorite line when defending himself; he called his trial a "witch hunt." Trump has gone so far as to threaten anti-Bolsonaro Brazilians by threatening to levy a 50 percent tariff against the nation. Brazil's president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva — a leftist who defeated Bolsonaro in 2022 — condemned the Trump administration's targeting of Brazilian judges. "My solidarity and support to the ministers of the Supreme Federal Court affected by yet another arbitrary and completely baseless measure by the United States government," the Brazilian president wrote in a translated social media post. He further condemned the "interference by one country in another's justice system" as "unacceptable" and in violation of "the basic principles of respect and sovereignty between nations."

Pictured: People lay floral tributes at the scene She told the BBC she has had to break the news of the child's death to Jayden, adding: 'He's lost a friend.' Emergency services, including five helicopters, rushed to the scene on the A396 in Somerset to free passengers who had become trapped inside the bus. An off-duty firefighter travelling behind the coach was able to save the lives of children by immediately starting to free them minutes after the collision. But he has said he 'couldn't sleep' because of the scenes he witnessed. Alan Jones, 64, ferried passengers to safety by driving them to a safe hub on his quad bike. Mr Jones, who now works as a trainer and lives at East Harwood Farm, said he took a total of eight adults and children to the Rest and Be Thankful Inn in Wheddon Cross. 'They're just so innocent and it wasn't their fault. It was a sorry sight,' he said. 'When you hear it's children from a middle school, I should think everybody dropped everything like I did, because it's just something about children - they're pretty helpless, really. 'I think it would have been wrong not to try and help. I was there in under 10 minutes. 'When I got there, the road was closed and the police were everywhere. Everybody was just looking at the bus. 'I didn't know there were any fatalities at the time, but I knew there were children still in the bus, and all of the police officers were just basically around the bus and there wasn't anybody else about, really; I was the only local person there.' Dozens of pupils, parents and local residents who laid flowers outside the front gates of the school - which closed on Friday following the tragedy. The school's head teacher, Laura Mackie, was among those laying flowers. 'I'm thinking of my staff team who are amazing, dedicated, and all of our wonderful students that have been affected and impacted by this awful, awful incident. 'It's just been horrific,' she told the BBC.
