Chandigarh launches electric vehicle portal, reviews solar initiatives
It enables eligible citizens to apply online for subsidies under the Chandigarh EV Policy, track application status in real-time, and access a location-based map of all public EV charging stations across UT Chandigarh, integrated with Google Maps for easy navigation," said a UT spokesman.
The official launch took place during the governing body meeting of CREST (Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society) held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of UT chief secretary Rajeev Verma.
The chief secretary acknowledged that Chandigarh had achieved saturation in the installation of solar photovoltaic (SPV) plants across all government buildings – a significant milestone reflecting the city's commitment to sustainable energy and a low-carbon future.
To ensure the continued efficiency and performance of the existing solar infrastructure, the chief secretary directed CREST to initiate third-party audits of all SPV projects that have been operational for five years or more.

These audits will promote accountability and long-term sustainability of solar assets.
He also emphasised that technically innovative projects – such as SPV plants proposed over cycle tracks – must be thoroughly evaluated for feasibility, performance, and aesthetics, with close coordination involving the UT chief architect.
"The Chandigarh administration remains steadfast in its vision to transform the city into a model of clean energy by integrating smart technology, promoting renewable energy adoption, and advancing sustainable mobility," said the spokesman.

Bitcoin slips below $118,300 as market awaits Fed decision; Ethereum outperforms with ETF boost
The cryptocurrency market traded mostly lower on Wednesday, with Bitcoin slipping below the $118,300 mark as investors remained cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy decision and a key regulatory report from the White House. As of 12:19 pm IST, Bitcoin was down 0.55% at $118,268, while Ethereum rose 0.25% to $3,827, according to CoinMarketCap. The global crypto market capitalisation declined 0.75% to $3.88 trillion. Thus, having reliable answers to such questions is crucial for investors. View Details » Live Events Vikram Subburaj, CEO of Giottus, added that Bitcoin's narrow price action is reflective of investor caution. 'The market awaits the US FOMC rate decision and the White House's long-awaited crypto policy update later today. While the Fed is expected to hold rates steady, any dovish tilt hinting at September cuts could propel risk assets higher,' he said. Subburaj noted that the policy update may introduce a formal Bitcoin Reserve Framework and support delta-neutral ETF strategies. 'If either lands favourably, BTC could reclaim $122,000 and unlock the path to price discovery,' he added. Healthy consolidation or caution? Avinash Shekhar, Co-founder and CEO of Pi42, said the recent stability in Bitcoin prices signals resilience rather than weakness. 'Bitcoin's resilience around the $119,000 level—after a sharp dip driven by a massive 80,000 BTC sell-off—signals a period of healthy consolidation. Broader market structure remains intact as investors await clarity from the Fed.' Shekhar also pointed out notable pullbacks in select altcoins like SUI, PEPE, and ENA, indicating ongoing profit-taking after recent gains. 'With Bitcoin dominance still holding above 59%, this phase could offer selective entry opportunities across both large and mid-cap altcoins,' he said. Ethereum shows relative strength Ethereum appeared to be gaining momentum, supported by institutional inflows and bullish technical signals. 'Bitcoin continues to consolidate between $114K and $120K, forming a classic bull flag pattern on the 4-hour chart—a historically bullish signal if confirmed by a breakout,' said Riya Sehgal, Research Analyst at Delta Exchange. 'Meanwhile, Ethereum is showing stronger bullish momentum. Whale accumulation, shrinking exchange reserves, and nearly $5 billion in ETF inflows over just 17 days point to mounting institutional demand,' Sehgal noted. A breakout above $4,100 could spark the next leg higher for ETH, she said. Sehgal added that while Bitcoin's options expiry suggests a neutral to slightly bearish stance—with a Put/Call Ratio of 0.46 and tight call/put interest between $117K–$119K—Ethereum's divergence may signal a shift in short-term market leadership. How to extract more range from your electric scooter: Tips & suggestions
Electric scooters are no longer a rare sight on Indian roads. They're fast becoming the go-to option for most buyers, college students, and office commuters looking for a budget-friendly alternative to petrol-powered two-wheelers. But while the convenience and low running cost are big plus points, one issue continues to nag most users: range anxiety. If you're among those who've recently purchased an e-scooter or are planning to do so, don't worry. Here are a few tips and tricks to extract optimal range from your EV. Extracting more range from your e-scooter: Tips & suggestions Ride smoothly Avoid sudden or aggressive acceleration. Fast throttle inputs draw more power from the battery. Try to maintain a steady pace and accelerate gradually. This helps the motor operate more efficiently and increases range. Most electric scooters offer multiple riding modes — typically Eco, Normal, and Sport. Eco mode limits speed and power to extend battery life. Use this mode when riding in the city or in slow-moving traffic to conserve range. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Online & Flexible degrees BITS Pilani Digital Apply Now Undo Maintain correct tyre pressure Check tyre pressure regularly and keep it at the manufacturer-recommended level. Under-inflated tyres increase rolling resistance, which makes the motor work harder and reduces overall efficiency. Simple One review: Is this the EV to beat? | TOI Auto Use regenerative braking Many electric scooters are equipped with regenerative braking systems that help recharge the battery slightly during braking. Use gentle braking instead of sudden stops to allow the regenerative system to recover energy. Avoid overloading Every scooter has a recommended load capacity. Riding with more weight than the scooter is designed for will reduce range. If your scooter is not built for two people, avoid carrying a pillion regularly. Charge the battery properly Avoid letting your battery drain completely before charging. Try to keep the charge level between 20% and 80% for better long-term battery health. Also, avoid charging to 100% every single time unless needed for a longer trip. Discover everything about the automotive world at Times of India .

UAE's 2025 hiring forecast just changed the game for students eyeing international careers
In a year where global hiring sentiment has softened, the United Arab Emirates has quietly emerged as a top performer. According to the latest Q3 2025 ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey, the UAE recorded the highest net employment outlook globally at 48%, outpacing economic heavyweights such as India (42%), the United States (30%), and China (28%). For students and professionals considering higher education abroad, this development is more than a data point. The UAE is no longer just a stopover economy or a regional business hub, it is becoming a serious contender in the international education landscape, particularly for those with global career ambitions. Hiring growth meets higher education reform The report highlights that company expansion, new ventures, and demand for modern skillsets are driving hiring across sectors. What makes the UAE distinct in 2025 is that this momentum is being reflected not only in economic activity but also in how the country is positioning itself to attract international talent through its education system. Over the past three years, the UAE has introduced targeted reforms to attract foreign students. Institutions such as New York University Abu Dhabi, Khalifa University, and the University of Birmingham Dubai have strengthened their postgraduate offerings while creating linkages to industry. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The country has also introduced long-term student and talent visas, making it easier for graduates to transition into the workforce without the immigration bottlenecks seen in many Western nations. This policy clarity is proving attractive for students who have long considered traditional destinations such as the US, the UK, or Australia. In contrast, the UAE is offering proximity, affordability, and a strong return on investment, especially in high-demand sectors. Sector-specific advantages for graduates The Q3 2025 survey identifies the UAE as the global leader in hiring intentions for several key sectors: Transport, Logistics, and Automotive (64%) Energy and Utilities (57%) Consumer Goods and Services (50%) Even without sector-specific breakdowns for all industries, the global survey shows that Information Technology (36%) and Financials and Real Estate (28%) continue to drive hiring worldwide. UAE's investments in fintech, digital transformation, and AI-backed infrastructure suggest it is well-positioned to offer relevant opportunities for graduates in these fields. A regional outlier with long-term potential While the broader Europe and Middle East region reflects a relatively conservative average outlook of 19%, the UAE's standout 48% places it in a category of its own. It is doing more than just outperforming its regional peers. For students choosing where to invest their time and tuition, macroeconomic stability and employment accessibility have become just as critical as academic rankings. The UAE, by aligning its education reforms with labour market trends, is creating a smoother transition from classrooms to careers. For international students, this makes the UAE an appealing middle path. It offers both economic dynamism and an education system designed with international learners in mind. While challenges such as cost of living and cultural adaptation might remain, they are being offset by the UAE's willingness to adapt. For international students, especially those from South Asia, Africa, and Southeast Asia, the UAE's 2025 hiring forecast marks an inflection point. It is no longer just an emerging option, it is a strategically smart destination. As other education markets tighten their immigration rules or face job market fatigue, the UAE is moving in the opposite direction. It is opening doors, expanding opportunities, and building pathways that connect academic ambition with professional outcomes. Whether you are choosing a postgraduate program, a skill-based diploma, or a professional upskilling course, the outlook is clear. TOI Education is on WhatsApp now. Follow us here .
