Google has rolled out a version of its artificial intelligence (AI) model Deep Think in the Gemini app, its chief executive, Sundar Pichai, said in a post on X.Gemini 2.5 Deep Think achieved the gold-medal standard at the International Math Olympiad (IMO) competition held between July 10-20 on Australia's Sunshine Coast. The results marked the first time that AI systems such as OpenAI and Google's Gemini crossed the gold-medal scoring threshold at the IMO for high school students.However, when it comes to solving complex math problems, the current model takes hours to reason and solve user queries. In a blog post, the company said the currently available model is capable of achieving bronze-level performance on the 2025 IMO benchmark, based on internal evaluations.Additionally, the company said, the Gemini 2.5 Deep Think model has been rolled out to a small group of mathematicians and academics to take early feedback and enhance the model's research and inquiry.Google's Deep Think model utilises parallel thinking techniques, an approach that lets Gemini generate multiple ideas at once, weighing potential solutions to solve complex problems and considering them simultaneously before giving the final answer.The idea is to integrate creative thinking capabilities into the AI model by exploring different hypotheses and giving it 'thinking time.'Gemini positions Deep Think as a powerful tool for researchers, as it can reason through 'complex scientific literature' to highly complex mathematical problems and along with coding.Gemini 2.5 Deep Think achieved state-of-the-art performance across benchmarks likeLiveCodeBench V6, which measures competitive code performance, and humanity's last exam, which measures expertise in different domains, including science and math.According to a Reuters report published on July 22, Junehyuk Jung, a math professor at Brown University and visiting researcher in Google's DeepMind AI unit, said AI is less than a year away from being used by mathematicians to crack unsolved research problems at the frontier of the field.CEO Sundar Pichai had also mentioned that AI has brought about a significant platform shift, allowing people, businesses, and communities all over the world to access decades of research.

Since, users have been using ChatGPT as a journal and asking all sorts of questions, for mere artificial assurance, this leak can lead to severe data exposure. For instance, users talking openly about mental health, relationships, or trauma might find those conversations searchable. Companies experimenting with ChatGPT for product ideas or marketing copy could inadvertently spill secrets. Moreover, if a chat includes your name or company, it might show up even after you think you've taken it can be done? Don't panic – but do get cautious. First, avoid sharing sensitive information in any ChatGPT conversation that could be made public. Think of it the way you would an email: once it's online, you lose control of think twice before using the 'Share' button. If you really must share something from ChatGPT, copy and paste the text or use a screenshot also lets you manage and delete your shared links from the Shared Links dashboard inside ChatGPT. Reddit wants to take on Google, aims to become a search engine
Reddit is undoubtedly one of the most popular discussion forums worldwide is the go-to place for millions to get information about anything from AI to cooking recipes. In the last couple of months, the platform has signed deals with ChatGPT maker OpenAI and Google to share its user data, and now the company is reportedly gearing up to enter the search engine space. In its latest note to investors, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said that the company is now focusing on 'areas that will drive results for our most pressing needs', one of which involves 'making Reddit a go-to search engine.' Hoffman went on to say that Reddit is one of the few platforms on the internet that is 'positioned to become a true search destination' as it has knowledge and conversations of real people, something which cannot be found elsewhere. The platform, which has more than 70 million weekly users, is now looking to make search a 'central feature.' To achieve this, the company says it will be making Reddit Answers, a feature currently available in more than a dozen countries to everyone and will make the search box more visible. Launched in December 2023, Reddit Answers is an AI-powered feature that has grown from 1 million users in 2024 to 6 million weekly users in the last year. In a statement to TechCrunch, CEO Steve Huffman said, 'We're unifying those [Reddit search and Reddit Answers] into a single search experience, and we're gonna bring that front and center in the app. So, whether you're a new user opening the app for the first time or a returning user opening the app, that search box will be present immediately.' With low-quality content taking over the internet in the last few years, people around the world have been adding the word 'Reddit' at the end of their search query to get relevant results. But with Google now offering its very own AI mode that automatically summarises content from all over the internet, Reddit to looking to jump into action by offering a similar product.

Microsoft Retires Windows 11 SE: What It Means for Users and Schools
Microsoft is officially phasing out Windows 11 SE, its education-focused operating system tailored for low-cost laptops and classroom environments. Launched in 2021 as a direct response to Google's Chrome OS, Windows 11 SE was designed to simplify computing in schools by offering a cloud-first, streamlined Windows experience. However, this effort is now winding down. Microsoft has confirmed that support for Windows 11 SE will end in October 2026. In a note published on Microsoft Learn, the company said, 'Microsoft will not release a feature update after Windows 11 SE, version 24H2. Support for Windows 11 SE, including software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes, will end in October 2026. While your device will continue to work, we recommend transitioning to a device that supports another edition of Windows 11 to ensure continued support and security.' This means that while devices running Windows 11 SE will still function after support ends, they will no longer receive essential updates, leaving them vulnerable and outdated over time. The recently released 24H2 version marks the final feature update for SE. When Windows 11 25H2 rolls out later this year, SE users will remain locked in their current version. Windows 11 SE was envisioned as a simplified, student-friendly version of Windows 11. It came pre-installed on specific devices, most notably the Surface Laptop SE. Despite Microsoft's hopes, the OS didn't gain wide traction and struggled to match Chrome OS's efficiency and reach in schools globally. Though it promised a lighter experience, SE was essentially Windows 11 under the hood. This led to inconsistent performance on budget hardware, defeating its core purpose. The system also featured strict app limitations and restricted multitasking—frustrating both students and educators. On the flip side, Microsoft still offers Windows 11 Education, a more robust edition intended for academic institutions. Unlike SE, it doesn't come with app or multitasking limitations, making it more suitable for broader educational needs. However, it does carry a higher cost and requires hardware capable of running full Windows 11. Microsoft's attempt to challenge Chromebooks in the education sector has faced repeated hurdles. An earlier venture, Windows 10X, was more promising as a true lightweight OS but was shelved before its official launch. Windows 11 SE stepped in to fill the gap, but ultimately failed to deliver a compelling alternative to Chrome OS. With Windows 11 SE nearing the end of its lifecycle, Microsoft advises users and institutions to transition to standard Windows 11 editions if supported by their hardware. This ensures continued access to security patches and features, crucial for maintaining safe digital learning environments. In summary, Windows 11 SE will soon join the list of Microsoft's short-lived experiments. While the devices will still boot up, the lack of updates post-October 2026 makes it essential for users to plan an upgrade or switch—before they're left behind.
