The 2025 NFL MVP talk is heating up, and it's not just about the big names like Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen. This year, a few surprising players have entered the conversation. Wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, two-way rookie Travis Hunter, and experienced quarterback Baker Mayfield are now being called 'dark horses' for the award.
Fans are shocked. How did these three end up in the MVP race? What did they do to earn this spotlight? Their journeys are different, but all three have shown something special that's now hard to ignore.
Ja'Marr Chase Travis Hunter and Baker Mayfield listed as MVP dark horses for 2025
On June 17, 2025, NFL.com and various other sites focused on Ja'Marr Chase, Travis Hunter, and Baker Mayfield as dark horse candidates for the 2025 MVP race. Ja'Marr Chase is a talented wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals who had a solid 2024 season with some monster catches and massive yards even as the team struggled.
His current MVP odds are +10000, a pretty uncommon spot for a wide receiver.
Travis Hunter, the rookie phenom selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in April 2025 shocked many by being on that list of potential MVP candidates. Travis Hunter, only 21, plays on both sides of the ball — wide receiver and cornerback — something no one has done in the league at this level in recent years. His college career at Colorado ended with several honors, including the 2024 AP Player of the Year.

He passed for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns, with a 71.4% pass completion percentage. He finished at +3300 odds for MVP. Experts believe that if Baker Mayfield leads the Bucs to a strong playoff run, he could surprise everyone in the MVP race.
Coaches and experts give credit to strong work ethic and leadership
In an interview with ESPN on June 20, 2025, Burgess Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said, 'Baker Mayfield stepped up as a true leader last season.' Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson also praised Travis Hunter's 'high football IQ and non-stop motor.'
Bengals QB Joe Burrow said about Ja'Marr Chase, 'He does things on the field no one else can.'

Women's World Cup: Koneru Humpy, Divya Deshmukh seal pre-quarter berths

Konery Humpy India No. 1 Koneru Humpy and reigning world junior champion Divya Deshmukh recorded victories in contrasting fashion to confirm their last-16 berths in the FIDE Women's World Cup in Batumi on Sunday. While Humpy registered a crushing win with black pieces against Polish IM Klaudia Kulon to win 1.5-0.5, Divya drew her second classical game to defeat Teodora Injac of Serbia 1.5-0.5. R Vaishali, D Harika and Vantika Agrawal, the other Indian players in the fray, drew both their classical games to enter the tiebreak rounds on Monday. On Klaudia's King's Pawn opening, Humpy chose the Giuoco Piano Game. In the mid-game, Humpy laid a trap with her bishops, and Klaudia's position became a bit shaky. The 38-year-old Humpy converted the advantage by lining up her pieces and the Indian GM was a rook up by the 40th move. With an extra piece, Humpy prevailed over Klaudia four moves later. Harika played out her second successive draw with Greek IM Stavroula Tsolakidou, while Vantika suffered a 43-move defeat to higherranked Ukrainian GM Kateryna Lagno with black pieces to be 1-1 (on Saturday, Vantika had surprised Lagno). Wimbledon 2025: A long, rocky road for Iga Swiatek

Poland's Iga Swiatek celebrates with the trophy after beating Amanda Anisimova of the U.S. to win the women's singles final at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London, Saturday, July 12, 2025. (AP Photo/Kin Cheung) London: Iga Swiatek used the word surreal more times than she did interviews on a sun-kissed summer evening in London. The 24-year-old, who completed a demolition job in the Wimbledon final in a shade under an hour, was engaged in media interactions some five-and-a-half hours after she powered to victory. She did 20 television interviews. It was well past 9 pm local time when she joined a select group of international journalists in one of the small interview rooms at SW19. Fresh was her expression. You'd think she had just had her morning coffee. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The Pole, who lost in the semifinals of her beloved Roland Garros last month, started training on the grass courts of Mallorca five days later. Backed by her coach of the last eight months Wim Fissette, she arrived in the German town of Bad Homburg for a WTA 250 to get some match experience on a surface that has been a bit of a puzzle to her. 'I'm happy with the whole process. From the first day we stepped on a grass court, we did everything for it to go in that direction (winning Wimbledon), without expecting it, just working really hard,' said Swiatek, who is back at No.3. Though Swiatek refused to rate her six Grand Slam triumphs, out of respect for the tournaments, the 24-year-old had gone through some testing times in the last 12 months. The Pole, who didn't reach a final for a year after her 2024 French Open victory, saw her ranking dip to No.8, her lowest since March 2022. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo A month after her fourth triumph at Roland Garros she arrived in Paris as favourite for the Olympic gold, but lost in the semifinals. She only made one more semifinal in her next three events before wrapping up her 2024 season. In November, it was announced that Swiatek had tested positive for trimetazidine (TMZ). She was subsequently given a one-month ban after the International Tennis Integrity Agency accepted the result was caused by contamination. Winning they say smooths most things over, but Swiatek didn't have that luxury to fall back on. The Pole changed coaches in November last year, signing Belgian Fissette after a successful three-year run with countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski. 'Unfortunately how the Polish media treated me and my team wasn't really pleasant,' Swiatek said of the last few months. The Wimbledon title gives Swiatek shelter from the rain, but she knows that there's a take-away from her tough days. 'The whole year was kind of crazy,' she said. It has been a long, rocky road back for the six-time Major winner. For real-time updates, scores, and highlights, follow our live coverage of the India vs England Test match here . IND vs ENG 3rd Test: 'Stumps flying is why we play' — Washington Sundar after dream spell at Lord's

Washington Sundar of India celebrates (Photo by) It was a day to remember for India at Lord's, and Washington Sundar was at the heart of it. The off-spinner spun a web around England, picking four wickets — all bowled — to spark a sensational collapse on Day 4 of the 3rd Test. BCCI released a behind-the-scenes video titled BoWled (th)'em , where Sundar and his teammates relived the thrill of watching stumps fly at the home of cricket. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'I started watching cricket very early in life, and I've definitely imagined getting batters bowled,' Sundar said with a smile. 'But all four bowled? Definitely not. I won't lie — that felt special.' The 24-year-old called it a 'blessing' to end up with four scalps and said, 'That's why you play cricket — to see the stumps go flying. Even as a spinner, that feeling never gets old.' Pacer Prasidh Krishna, who also played a key role in the innings, praised Sundar's control. 'We knew any spinner who bowled tight would be in the game. Washi just did not let them score anything. He kept the pressure up brilliantly.' Poll What do you think will be the outcome of the 3rd Test match? India will win England will win Match will end in a draw Sai Sudharsan was all smiles too. 'I was inside the field when he got one of the wickets. I just ran to him — couldn't help it. We were so happy.' As Day 4 came to a close at Lord's, the third Test between India and England was finely poised. Chasing 193 for victory, India ended the day at 58 for 4, needing another 135 runs with six wickets in hand. KL Rahul was unbeaten on 33, holding the fort amid a charged atmosphere and testing pitch conditions. England, fired up by a late burst from Brydon Carse and Ben Stokes , have the upper hand with the ball still relatively new. With the series level at 1-1, everything points towards a thrilling finish on the final day.
