Tirupati temple board suspends 4 employees for ‘practising other religions'
The suspended employees are B Elizar, deputy executive engineer (quality control); S Rosi, staff nurse, BIRRD hospital; M Premavati, grade-1 pharmacist, BIRRD hospital, and Dr G Asuntha of SV Ayurveda Pharmacy.
These employees are believed to have violated the institution's code of conduct and acted irresponsibly in their duties while representing and working for a Hindu religious organisation, the TTD said in a statement.
After examining a report submitted by the TTD Vigilance Department and other evidence, departmental action was taken against them as per the rules and the four employees were immediately suspended, it said.
The suspensions are the latest in a wider effort to transfer or suspend officials belonging to other faiths from the TTD.
On July 8, the TTD had suspended assistant executive officer A Rajasekhar Babu stating that he attends local church prayers every Sunday in his hometown Puttur in Tirupati district.
TTD sources said that the board has taken a decision not to allow any non-Hindu to work in the TTD, especially in the temples governed and managed by it.
After the Telugu Desam Party-led NDA government came to power in June last year, the TTD has transferred several non-Hindu employees working in various positions in the TTD. In February this year, the TTD transferred 18 employees for allegedly practicing and participating in non-Hindu religious activities. The transferred employees include six teachers at various TTD educational institutes, a deputy executive officer (welfare), an assistant executive officer, an assistant technical officer (electrical), a hostel worker, two electricians and two nurses.
On November 18, in its maiden meeting of the TTD under new chairman B R Naidu, the board had decided to transfer non-Hindus and ban political speeches on its premises.

Bhagwat also called for India to move beyond the symbolism of being the 'golden bird' and instead become a 'lion', asserting that the world recognises and respects power. 'The world understands power. Therefore, Bharat must become strong. It must also grow rich in economic terms,' Bhagwat said, stressing that strength and prosperity are essential for India to find its rightful place in the global order. Touching on the theme of national identity, Bhagwat made a strong case for preserving the name 'Bharat' without translation. 'Bharat is a proper noun. It should not be translated. 'India is Bharat' — that's true. But Bharat is Bharat. In every context — whether personal or public, while speaking or writing — we should say Bharat,' he emphasised. The RSS chief also spoke at length about the purpose and values of education, stating that true education empowers an individual to live independently while inculcating a spirit of sacrifice and selflessness. 'Education that teaches selfishness is not real education,' he declared. He further said that education is not confined to schools alone but extends to the home and society. 'The environment in which children grow up plays a crucial role. Society must reflect on what kind of atmosphere is needed to raise a confident and responsible generation,' Bhagwat said. The conference was attended by Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, along with several senior academicians and vice-chancellors from across India. President of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, Dr Pankaj Mittal, Secretary Dr Atul Kothari, Coordinator A Vinod, Chairman of Cochin Shipyard Madhu Nair were also present. The event focused on reshaping the country's educational framework in alignment with Indian cultural values and preparing the youth to face future challenges with clarity and confidence.

‘Between him and PM Modi': What Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said on Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation as V-P
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday said that he has no information on the actual reason for Jagdeep Dhankhar resigning as the Vice-President, adding that the matter is between the former V-P and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Noting that Dhankhar always took the government's side, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said he never allowed the opposition, whenever it tried to raise issues, whether it was concerning farmers or poor or on foreign policy issues, news agency PTI reported. "I don't know all those details. He (Dhankhar) was always on the government's side. He should say what happened," Kharge said in response to a question whether Dhankhar was forced to resign as he spoke in favour of farmers. Kharge also said that whenever the opposition tried to raise issues concerning farmers, poor, international issues, or foreign policy, Dhankhar 'never used to give' them an opportunity (in Rajya Sabha as its Chairman). Speaking to reporters in Karnataka's Vijayapura, Kharge added, 'When we tried to raise issues by giving notices on issues regarding the poor, atrocities against women, dalits, and downtrodden, and incidents like Hindu-Muslim clashes, he did not give us an opportunity. It (reason for Dhankhar's resignation as Vice President) is between him and Modi. We don't have any information on that.' In a surprise move, Jaideep Dhankhar on July 21 resigned from his post as Vice President, citing medical reasons for his decision, but triggering speculation in political circles. In his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar said he was stepping down with immediate effect to 'prioritise health care'. The Congress party-led Opposition, however, dismissed the explanation of medical issues behind the 74-year-old's abrupt move, claiming instead that 'far deeper reasons' are at play. On July 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Dhankhar good health. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh reacted with a dig at the PM. Ramesh, like he usually does, said on X that PM Modi's social media post had "added to the mystery of his abrupt exit." Responding to a question about changing the Karnataka Congress president, Kharge said, "All those things cannot be said now. Will speak later." Currently, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is holding the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president post on an extended tenure. There have been voices within the ruling Congress in the state to replace him, citing him holding two key positions.
