Chewin' the Fat star to be guest of honour at Glasgow event
Comic, singer, BAFTA-winning actor and DJ Karen Dunbar will officially "cut the ribbon" at Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust's open day on Sunday, July 27. 'I have a love of buses, and Glasgow - and buses in Glasgow,' says Karen, with a laugh. 'I'm always happy to go to community events when I can, and celebrate the culture of our city and the people who help preserve and honour it.' Karen Dunbar (Image: Karen Dunbar) A spokesperson for the event said: 'GVVT is stocking up on individual fruit trifles as we prepare to welcome a very special guest to our Family and Community Super Sunday. 'Karen Dunbar, star of legendary Chewin' the Fat, at last has escaped the corner shop and found a friend – more than a thousand of them, in fact, who will attend our sparkling, fun event at Bridgeton Bus Garage.' Karen's countless on-screen alter egos in the hit sketch show included the lonely shopkeeper, who took a little too much interest in the lives of her customers, in the hope of sharing a fruit trifle or two with them. The star will kick-start the show at noon, introducing the swinging sound of the Michael Brawley Big Band, supported by Super Sunday newcomers the Jump 'n' Jive Dancers. Other newbies include Ghostbusters Alba, complete with 12-foot-high Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Ectomobiles and charity merchandise. Other highlights will include toy and art stalls and community groups, including Glasgow North East Foodbank who will gratefully accept donations of tins, jars, pasta and more. (Image: Newsquest) Darth Vader and his Star Wars troopers return along with the classic Tunnock's van, superb model buses and boats, face painters, Wee Happy Shop and Bus, Clippies Café, and a new museum display. Visitors can also test their bus driving skills on the SIM1 simulator and their rowing prowess, courtesy of Clydesdale Rowing Club, and of course, browse around more than 130 vintage buses, lorries and fire engines. The event runs from 11am, with a free vintage bus service running to and from George Square with an added pick-up at Bellgrove Station. More details are available from the GVVT website.

Amanda Holden does one thing twice a year 'to prove husband exists but he can't stand it'
Amanda Holden has been married to her husband, Chris Hughes, for 14 years, and the star has now shared the one thing she has to do a few times a year to prove he's still part of her family Television star Amanda Holden has revealed she performs one particular ritual twice annually to demonstrate that husband Chris Hughes actually exists. Amanda, 54, has been married to Chris, 51, for 22 years, yet insists that despite the decades together, their union still feels incredibly fresh. The duo first crossed paths in 2003 before exchanging vows in 2008, and share two daughters, Lexi, 19, and Hollie, 13. Nevertheless, the Britain's Got Talent judge said there are certain activities she enjoys that Chris tries to avoid, including maintaining an active social media presence. Consequently, Amanda reveals that several times annually, she compels record producer Chris to feature on her social media platforms to demonstrate he remains among the living. She revealed to The Times: "It does still feel fresh. We're very different people. He can't stand the limelight, hates red carpets, hates turning up anywhere with me, so he doesn't. "Twice a year he gets forced to go on my Instagram just to prove he exists. I will only listen to him on the business side of life. In other ways I'm very spontaneous and don't listen to him at all." This marks not the first occasion Amanda has discussed her marriage, acknowledging earlier this year that, similar to every couple, they continue experiencing highs and lows. She told Hello!: "We have ups and downs like everyone else. But when I was looking at the pain and suffering that some of the people we were working with were going through, I felt so grateful that I had somebody in my life with no complications. "My husband and I always have this joke where we go: 'God, our relationship still feels so fresh.' "Twenty-two years does feel like a long time, but it still feels new to me. I think that's because it's ever-evolving." Amanda also candidly discussed her personal preferences for relaxation. When the Times asked whether she preferred a novel or Netflix, she confessed that it all hinges on the season. She elaborated: "I have the biggest pile of books I'm taking on holiday, and I'm even more excited about reading them than I am about seeing long-lost friends. "But in winter I'm up to my eyeballs in Netflix and Amazon Prime and Apple TV+. I love The Morning Show and Bad Sisters. The Handmaid's Tale is hands-down the best thing I've ever seen."

Oscar-winning period romance with unrecognisable A-lister streaming for free
A must-watch romantic comedy has just landed on BBC iPlayer. An Academy Award-winning period drama starring an unrecognisable A-lister is now streaming for free. BBC iPlayer has just added Shakespeare in Love to its library, ready for theatre and romcom lovers to devour. Released in 1998, the star-studded film features Oscar winners Gwyneth Paltrow, Colin Firth and Ben Affleck. It also stars Dame Judi Dench in a role that almost completely disguises the acclaimed actress. For those who missed the hit romantic drama, it follows young playwright William Shakespeare (played by Joseph Fiennes) as he is battling writer's block. While looking for a new muse, William meets his ideal woman, Viola (Paltrow), and is inspired to write one of his most famous plays, Romeo and Juliet. Dame Dench plays Queen Elizabeth I, donning the hair, makeup and 16th century garments to fit the royal part. Despite being on screen for around eight minutes, Dench's performance earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The drama's accolades didn't stop there, as Shakespeare in Love also took home the Best Picture prize, alongside the Best Costume; Best Original Music; Best Screenplay, and Best Art Direction awards. Paltrow also bagged the Best Leading Actress gong, which remains her only Oscar win to date. Directed by John Madden, the period drama has an impressive 92% Rotten Tomatoes score. The critics' consensus reads: "Endlessly witty, visually rapturous, and sweetly romantic, Shakespeare in Love is a delightful romantic comedy that succeeds on nearly every level." Casual moviegoers similarly rave about the nineties hit, with one viewer writing: "Incredibly heart-warming and wildly entertaining, this movie has something for everybody, and it is so much fun to watch. I definitely recommend it for romance and comedy fans!" A second said: "I absolutely love this movie, it's a timeless classic and an absolute must see. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll fall in love with the characters. "It's quoted almost daily in my household, and rightfully so! If you haven't seen it already, I highly recommend this movie!" Meanwhile, a third penned: "Simply put, this is a fun film that never lacks for comedy. Everyone in this film portrays their parts with elegance. And as if to top the entire film off, Dame Judi Dench plays a rather fantastically entertaining Queen Elizabeth I."
