Maharashtra Monsoon Mayhem: IMD Issues Red, Orange Alerts; Schools Shut In Palghar Amid Heavy Rain Threat
IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours in six Maharashtra districts for which red alerts have been issued. Those are Raigad, Ratnagiri, Gondia, Chandrapur, Bhandara, and Gadchiroli where there would be huge possibilities of all-round flooding. The people in these areas are asked to be indoor, halt non-essential travel, and vigilantly follow updates from local authorities.
Due to the red alert warning, Palghar District Collector Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar announced a holiday for all colleges, schools, and Anganwadi centers on Friday, July 26. The district had already received heavy rains and is likely to get very heavy rain through the day.
IMD scientist Sushma Nair went on to detail that a red alert has been sounded for the neighboring Ghat region of Pune, while orange alerts have been sounded for Nashik and Satara districts' Ghat regions. Outside these, areas like Konkan, Marathwada, Vidarbha, and Western Maharashtra are also under orange and yellow alerts, indicating heavy rainfall.
There have been concerns about the possibility of downstream flooding following higher water discharge from a number of dams. Local authorities are carefully keeping an eye on river levels and have requested that residents in flood-prone areas prepare for possible emergency evacuations. The IMD has also warned fishermen and tourists strongly to be extremely cautious, especially along coastal regions and rivers.
Mumbai, the capital city, witnessed heavy showers on Friday morning, which resulted in slowed traffic and impacted some of the suburban train services along the Western Railway line. The officials expect showers during the later part of the day as well. As per the Monsoon Report of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), island city, eastern suburbs, and western suburbs received average rainfall of 29.40 mm, 29.44 mm, and 18.88 mm respectively.

New Delhi: The Delhi-NCR region is expected to witness rain in the remaining days of July due to an approaching low-pressure system. Though the India Meteorological Department has not issued any colour-coded warnings, it has predicted light to moderate precipitation in the capital from Monday to Wednesday, followed by scattered light showers on Thursday. "The well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh is moving towards east Rajasthan and weakened into a low-pressure area. The high mercury along with high humidity continued to cause discomfort. The maximum temperature was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius. However, relative humidity oscillated between 59% and 87%. The Heat Index (HI) or 'feel like temperature' was recorded at 48.3 degrees Celsius at 5.30pm. The minimum temperature, however, stood at 28.8 degrees Celsius. On Monday, the maximum temperature is likely to go up to 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to be around 26-28 degrees Celsius.

Bengal to get more rain; South Bengal districts on Yellow alert

The weather bureau predicted light to moderate rainfall with possible thunderstorms in South Bengal districts like Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, and Kolkata. State capital Kolkata experienced overcast conditions on Sunday, but there was only 0.4 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.2 degree Celsius on Sunday. Humidity levels were on the higher side, ranging from 83 per cent to 100 per cent. Meanwhile, the IMD has put North Bengal districts like Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar under an Orange alert (Be Prepared), expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) on Sunday. Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, and Kalimpong are under a Yellow alert and are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall. Warnings have been issued for possible lightning and local flooding in low-lying areas across the region. In its bulletin, the IMD also stated that a 'trough runs from cyclonic circulation associated with the well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood to northeast Bangladesh across northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and north Gangetic West Bengal between 0.9 to 5.8 km above mean sea level.' Under the influence of this strong monsoon flow, widespread light to moderate rainfall is very likely to continue over West Bengal, with heavy rainfall activity expected at one or two places in some districts over the next few days. Delhi weather: National capital to receive rainfall on Monday, says IMD
Delhi is likely to receive rainfall on Monday, according to the India Meteorological Department. In addition to the rain, IMD has predicted the maximum and minimum temperatures hover around 34 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively on Monday.
