Douglas starting pitcher returning from Tommy John surgery leads Eagles to BCAA title
Friday he was the starting pitcher for Stoneman Douglas against West Broward in the BCAA Tier 1 baseball championship game. With one start already this season, Wildroudt made his second start of the season since his injury on October 24, 2023.
He went 5 2/3 innings allowing five hits, while striking out four to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 victory over the Bobcats at Nova High. It was also the Eagles third title in the third year of the tournament.
The victory was the 12th consecutive over West Broward, while holding them to 23 consecutive scoreless innings. Douglas (7-1) has shut out the Bobcats six times during their winning streak.
'He's about 18 months from Tommy John surgery and this was his third outing getting better and better each week,' said Douglas coach Todd Fitz-Gerald. 'He did great tonight. He was outstanding managing his pitches. He got some big strikeouts when we needed it.'
Backed by a stellar defensive effort, the Eagles allowed one base runner to get into scoring position, while Wildroudt was on the mound. Four times West Broward baserunners were called out trying to steal and advanced on a baseball hit.
Junior Jake Rizzo had a pair of RBI, one in the bottom of the second inning and another two innings later. The third run came on a Bobcats (4-4) error in the bottom of the fourth inning.
'This feels great as I was struggling earlier in the season,' Rizzo said. 'I've turned it up a notch and I feel like I've been able to help the team a lot.'
West Broward will host Douglas next Friday at 4 p.m.
'It's baseball and right now we got it rolling pretty good,' Fitz-Gerald said. 'We got to go against them next Friday and it could be a different situation. Couldn't be happier on how our guys handled themselves tonight.'
With the victory the Eagles haven't suffered a second loss in the first eight games of a regular season since the 2019 season.
Senior left-hand pitcher Andrew Sarro was credited with the save.
▪ Teir 2 Championship result: Pembroke Pines Charter 3, Nova 2.

Eagles, Raiders Make Training Camp Player Swap
Eagles, Raiders Make Training Camp Player Swap originally appeared on The Spun. With the preseason fast approaching and final rosters beginning to take shape, the Philadelphia Eagles and Las Vegas Raiders reportedly made a trade on Tuesday. The Raiders recently got rid of defensive lineman Christian Wilkins after signing him to a four-year, $110 million contract due to how he treated his injury rehab and a strange "kissing" incident. Now the team has added some depth in that spot by sending cornerback Jakorian Bennett to the City of Brotherly Love in exchange for defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV, per Raiders reporter Ryan McFadden (via ESPN insider Adam Schefter). Booker is a former fifth-round pick of the Houston Texans who appeared in all 17 games for the Eagles during their Super Bowl run — recording 18 tackles and a sack in his on-field appearances which included one start. While Bennett was a fourth-round pick out of Maryland in 2023 who put together a solid campaign in his sophomore NFL season, even though it was cut to just 10 games after undergoing season-ending surgery on his shoulder. The Eagles parted ways with veteran Pro Bowler Darius Slay this offseason, so adding another DB to the mix could be a benefit to them. The trade is still pending physicals from both sides, according to McFadden's sourcing, but is likely to go through once everything gets sorted out. Bennett had reportedly been dropping on Vegas' depth chart since returning from the injury despite being 100% healed — with most of his reps coming with the Raiders' second and third teams since OTAs. Perhaps a change of scenery will be good for him as he fights for more time on the field with one of the NFL's most talented defenses. "I always feel like the underdog," Bennett told last week. "I always had to get out [of] the mud, you know. And man, that's nothing I shy away from. That's who I am. I like to persevere."Eagles, Raiders Make Training Camp Player Swap first appeared on The Spun on Aug 5, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 5, 2025, where it first appeared.

Red Sox reactions: Roman Anthony delivers first career walkoff RBI
BOSTON — Instant reactions from the Red Sox' 2-1 walkoff win in 10 innings against the Astros at Fenway Park on Friday: 1) Ceddanne Rafaela's swinging bunt put runners at the corners with no outs in the 10th inning. Star rookie Roman Anthony then delivered a walkoff RBI single over center fielder Taylor Trammell's head. It came off Astros left-handed reliever Bennett Sousa. It was his first career walkoff RBI. 'It's amazing. It's fun. I want to do it again already,' Anthony said. Trevor Story added, 'You can't say enough how poised he is. The moment is never too big for him. He's just so calm in there. It's like he's been there for 10 years. So it's awesome to see. He's gonna be doing that for a long time.' 2) The Red Sox played the infield in with the automatic extra-inning runner at third base and one out in the top of the 10th inning. Mauricio Dubón grounded to shortstop Trevor Story who fired home to cut down Chas McCormick at the plate and keep the game tied 1-1. Reliever Greg Weissert pitched a scoreless 10th, getting Jeremy Peña to fly out to left field for the final out. 3) The Red Sox improved to 60-51. They are 35-21 at Fenway Park. 4) Righty Cooper Criswell posted a 3.49 ERA in 18 starts last season. But Boston has had him far down on its starting depth chart this season; he entered Friday having thrown just 10 ⅔ innings in the majors in 2025. Criswell showed the Red Sox what they have been missing out on while keeping him at Triple-A Worcester where he has posted a 3.32 ERA in 14 outings (13 starts). The 29-year-old allowed just one run, seven hits and two walks while striking out four in 7 innings against the Astros. 5) The Astros took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Christian Walker's 389-foot home run to left-center field. It was the lone run Criswell allowed. Walker connected on a changeup low in the zone. 6) The Red Sox tied it 1-1 in the seventh inning. Trevor Story drew a leadoff walk and stole second. Masataka Yoshida reached when he got hit by a pitch. Carlos Narváez's sac bunt put Story at third and Yoshida at second with one out. Wilyer Abreu followed with a game-tying RBI sac fly to left field. 7) Jarren Duran made a nice leaping catch up against the center field wall on Carlos Correa's 383-foot fly ball in the fourth inning. 8) Astros starter Hunter Brown tossed 7 innings and allowed one run, four hits and one walk while striking out six. 9) Trevor Story doubled off the Green Monster against Astros closer Josh Hader with one out in the ninth. Pinch hitter Rob Refsnyder walked to put two men on base. With two outs, Wilyer Abreu hit two balls just barely foul down the right field line before he struck out swinging to send the game into extra innings. 10) The Red Sox and Astros will play the second game of their two-game series Saturday at 4:10 p.m. Righty Walker Buehler (6-6, 5.72 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for Boston opposite lefty Colton Gordon (4-3, 4.74 ERA).
