Tuesday's cabinet session: Latest developments
'There is no final agreement on an exit for the session and Hezbollah is linking its participation to the outcome of talks, while showing openness to a formula that would approve arms monopolization,' the sources told Al-Jadeed TV.
'Hezbollah and the Amal Movement have agreed to have a common stance on the session, which means to attend, not attend or boycott the government if needed,' the sources said.
'MP Mohammad Raad agreed with Speaker Nabih Berri to carry out contacts to contain the repercussions of Tuesday's session, and he discussed its agenda with President Joseph Aoun in Baabda and it was agreed to work on avoiding any domestic deterioration,' the sources added.
The sources also revealed that 'a meeting is expected between the president and the parliament speaker to discuss the course of Tuesday's session and the best scenario to tackle the file of arms.'
Informed sources meanwhile told Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV that the meetings of Raad with Aoun and Wafiq Safa with the army chief had been scheduled prior to the president's Army Day speech.
'Hezbollah's stance in the two meetings was clear and firm: Hezbollah knows the magnitude of pressures and is ready for discussions,' the sources said.

Aoun in Deir al-Qamar: For a united Lebanon and example of coexistence

Lebanon was shaken by the war between Hezbollah and Israel in 2023-2024, which continues in various forms despite a cease-fire agreement last November. The issue of the party's weapons, and the state's monopoly on arms, has returned to the forefront, creating deep tensions in the country. The government is expected to discuss this issue on Tuesday. On the occasion of Army Day on Aug. 1, Aoun reaffirmed the state's determination to regain its monopoly over weapons and the decision over war and peace, which garnered him much positive feedback but also harsh criticism from Hezbollah supporters.

Inauguration of the 'Street of the Victims of Aug. 4,' near Beirut Port
On the eve of the fifth anniversary of the deadly explosion at Beirut Port, a section of Charles Helou Avenue located near one of the entrances to the capital's port was named on Sunday the "Street of the Victims of Aug. 4," following a request made by the victims' families. The ceremony was held in the presence of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar, Beirut Governor Marwan Abboud and relatives of the victims of the disaster. Speaking at the event, Salam called to "take hands off justice." "We will not compromise on justice or truth," he said. He also noted that "no one is above the law" in the port explosion case. "We will not compromise on this question because truth is the mother of justice," he stated, believing that "there will be no justice as long as the whole truth has not been revealed." He again emphasized the government's commitment to follow this case until justice is done. Earlier in the day, Culture Minister Ghassan Salameh said he added the Beirut Port silos, ravaged by the deadly explosion on Aug. 4, 2020, and the site of a series of fires in 2022, to the general inventory of historic monuments. During a roundtable at the National Library in Sanayeh, dedicated to the repercussions of the disaster and organized with the Ministry of Social Affairs — the first of its kind for the Aug. 4 commemoration — Nawaf Salam stated that "every official will be held accountable" for this tragedy. On the eve of Aug. 4, several political, religious and social figures on Sunday called for accountability and denounced the ongoing impunity. The explosions at Beirut Port killed 235 people, injured more than 7,000 and destroyed a significant part of the capital. Five years later, no officials have yet been tried, due to political interference in the investigation led by Judge Tarek Bitar. Several commemorations are planned for Sunday and Monday.

Lebanon's Labor Minister heads to Baghdad to strengthen bilateral cooperation
Lebanese Labor Minister Mohammad Haidar departed Beirut on Sunday afternoon for Baghdad, leading an official delegation in response to an invitation from his Iraqi counterpart, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ahmed Al Asadi. The accompanying delegation includes the minister's advisors, Firas Zaiter and Hussein Mohaidly, along with Iman Khazaal representing the Labor Ministry. During the visit, Minister Haidar is expected to meet several high-level Iraqi officials, including Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, to whom he will deliver an official message from Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. The message focuses on enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
