Dunne announced her retirement from gymnastics in April and is recovering from a major knee injury suffered in March.

The avulsion fracture was just the latest in a long line of injuries suffered by the 22-year-old.

'I was actually competing on a hurt ankle (at) the 2018 USA Championships,' she told McMahon. 'And part of my ankle bone died … so my Olympic dreams died with it.'

She said she was diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans, a condition in which bone beneath the cartilage of a joint dies due to lack of blood flow, saying that it can also cause pain and possibly hinder joint motion,' according to People.

But she kept trying anyway, only to get hurt again. Last month Dunne told People: 'I fractured my kneecap during my gymnastics season and it's getting better, slowly but surely. I've been grinding non-stop ever since the season ended, but I think that it is getting a little bit better.

'My life has revolved around gymnastics,' she said. 'So honestly, to be able to say yes to more things and potentially maybe do some more performing art stuff on screen — and I'm very excited.'

That might even include more acting, she hinted to the publication. She previously was a star of an Amazon Prime series on LSU athletes.

Judge dismisses Alec Baldwin lawsuit claiming malicious prosecution in fatal set shooting

A New Mexico judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by actor Alec Baldwin for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations in the 2021 fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the western movie Rust. The judge, in a ruling made public Wednesday, dismissed the case without prejudice for lack of any significant action with the claim, which was filed in state district court earlier this year. Baldwin's attorneys will have 30 days to file a motion seeking reinstatement. Luke Nikas, Baldwin's lead attorney, told The Associated Press in an email that the dismissal amounted to a non-event since his team has been waiting to prosecute the case. "We have been in good-faith settlement discussions with the parties to the lawsuit and will be refiling promptly if those discussions are not promptly and favourably resolved," he said. Defendants include special prosecutor Kari Morrissey and Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, along with three investigators from the Santa Fe County sheriff's office and the county board of commissioners. A charge of involuntary manslaughter against Baldwin was dismissed at trial last year on allegations that police and prosecutors withheld evidence from the defence. WATCH | Baldwin reacts after manslaughter case dismissed: Alec Baldwin brought to tears when judge dismisses charges against him in Rust killing 1 year ago Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed charges of involuntary manslaughter against actor Alec Baldwin, in New Mexico. His defence lawyers accused Santa Fe law enforcement of hiding evidence of the source of the live round that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021, failing to list the rounds in the Rust investigation file or inform the defence lawyers of their existence. The allegations in Baldwin's tort claim include defamation, with his attorneys saying that prosecutors and investigators targeted the actor and co-producer for professional or political gain. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died shortly after being wounded during a rehearsal for the movie Rust in October 2021 at a film-set ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe, N.M. Baldwin was pointing a pistol at Hutchins when it discharged, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Baldwin has said he pulled back the hammer — but not the trigger — and the revolver fired. The actor recently spoke to The Associated Press at San Diego's Comic-Con International, saying he couldn't believe what happened that day in court as the trial came to an abrupt end and that his life over the last year has been far better than the few years that preceded it. Still, Baldwin and other producers of Rust are being sued in New Mexico state court by the parents and younger sister of Hutchins. Court records show a deposition for Baldwin in that case was put off in May and has yet to be rescheduled.

Roughriders' receiver Shawn Bane Jr. is ready — and waiting

Shawn Bane Jr. is itching to get back into the lineup. Article content After suffering a season-ending knee injury nearly 10 months ago, the Saskatchewan Roughriders third-year receiver has been a full participant in practice for the past two weeks but is still waiting to make his season debut. Article content Article content 'Back to the basics,' Bane said this week as the Roughriders get set to visit the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday. 'Just trying to build up the body, literally. I got it broken down so completely rebuilt. Article content 'I feel good, feel strong, feel healthy.' On Sept. 28, 2024, the 30-year-old suffered a serious knee injury when he attempted to make a catch over the middle of the field against the Ottawa Redblacks. He underwent surgery on his partially torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and fully torn lateral collateral ligament (LCL). Article content Bane — who also tore his ACL in college — underwent months of rehab and recovery from the sideline as his team opened training camp and began the season without him on the field. Article content 'It was brutal, man. It was so brutal,' said the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Florida native. 'The last time I hurt my leg was in 2016 and I only had to watch my team go through the playoffs. Article content 'We had three weeks and then we won the championship. So I didn't have to watch them for a long time. But this is a whole different mindset of missing camp (and) missing the (start of the) season.' Article content Instead of being placed on the six-game injured list to start the year, Bane was put on the one-game injured list which allowed him to be available to practice at any time with the team. Article content Article content After doing individual drills on the sideline during practice for the first four weeks of the season, Bane returned to the field with his teammates in limited fashion in Week 6 before being fully cleared last week. Article content Article content Since then, he's enjoyed two productive weeks of practice, although he hasn't ran reps with the starting offence yet. Article content 'The last little bit (of recovery) was more mental than anything,' said Bane. 'But I think today really solidified the 100 per cent for me. Article content 'The final decision is up to the doctors, but I ran a full practice, full routes, stopping on a dime, feeling good.' Article content After signing in Saskatchewan in 2023 following two years with the Calgary Stampeders, Bane made 93 receptions for 1,104 yards and four touchdowns that year before recording 49 catches for 591 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games in 2024 prior to his injury. Article content With three American receivers off to strong starts this season in KeeSean Johnson, Dohnte Meyers and Joe Robustelli, there may have to be a tricky roster decision when it comes to Bane's return to the lineup.
