Mick Schumacher confirms he IS in talks to return to Formula One as son of legendary driver Michael plots surprise comeback after being dumped in 2022

Daily Mail15-07-2025
Formula One outcast Mick Schumacher has confirmed he is in talks with newcomers Cadillac regarding a return to the sport for the 2026 season.
The German driver has not raced in F1 since leaving Haas in 2022, and was replaced by Valtteri Bottas as Mercedes' reserve driver at the end of last season.
However, with General Motors-backed team Cadillac set to join the grid in March of next year, Schumacher is one of the many drivers currently without a seat vying to drive the new car on the block.
Sergio Perez and Bottas are said to be the frontrunners for the two open seats, with both without a place on the grid currently.
But they are just two of many candidates in the running, and Schumacher - who now drives in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine - has revealed that he has held 'positive' conversations with team principal Graeme Lowdon, calling the Cadillac project 'incredible'.
The 26-year-old told Motorsport.com: 'Yes, of course, discussions are ongoing. The communication has been very positive so far.
'They've already hired a fantastic number of people for it [the project]. It's an honour to be part of it, to negotiate with them, and a great position to be in.'
Lowdon, who previously ran the Manor F1 team in its various forms in the early 2010s, also confirmed that discussions with Schumacher had taken place while on the High Performance podcast.
'Yeah, we're talking to Mick,' said Lowdon with a huge grin on his face.
Many thought that Schumacher's chance in F1 had already passed when he was booted from the Haas team, with an array of talented young drivers overtaking him in the pecking order.
Nonetheless, Lowdon was full of praise for the son of seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher, even if he is one of many in with a shout of a seat at Cadillac next season.
'Mick is great,' Lowdon told Sky Deutschland. 'He's a very nice guy, I like him a lot. I've got to know him better now.
'He's still young, but he already has Formula 1 experience. Of course, that was a while ago, but he's kept himself up to date.
'We really like that. We really like that. He is no stranger to the team. He knows where we stand. There are some positive things to say about Mick.
'He is clearly one of the drivers on the list. But I should also say that the list is quite long.'
Bottas has been one of the names floated about when discussing who may drive for the Ferrari-powered team, and Lowdon has confirmed that talks with the Mercedes reserve driver have also taken place.
However, the team principal was keen to make it known that he does not want the likes of Schumacher and Bottas to join just to prove they are still worthy of a seat, but to help the team succeed in its rookie year.
Continuing on the High Performance Podcast, he said: 'Everyone wants to prove something else again. I never look at that as the biggest motivator.
'Our team is not there as a vehicle for someone to prove a point. Our team is there to provide a position on the pitch, if you like.
'For someone to prove what they can do for sure, but it's not the vehicle to show the world, prove a point, or whatever.
'The driver is there to do the best that they possibly can for their team, and they should be motivated for the team around them as well. So, I'm less keen on people who kind of want to prove a personal point.'
When asked about the prospect of Perez joining the cause, Lowdon did not want to rule any driver out of the running.
'Every single person, every name that you're going to read out, we're talking to everyone because everyone wants the drive.'

Washington Commanders move step closer to $3.7bn DC stadium… but Donald Trump threat still looms large

The Washington Commanders have received the green light to build a new $3.7billion stadium in DC - despite Donald Trump 's threat to scupper those plans if they don't revert their name back to the Redskins. Trump says he intends to block federal support for the stadium project unless the Commanders change back to the name it formerly adopted before being axed in 2020 amid pressure from fans, sponsors and Native American groups who considered 'Redskins' a racial slur. 'I may put a restriction on them that if they don't change the name back to the original "Washington Redskins," and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, "Washington Commanders," I won't make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington,' the president said on Truth Social last month. With Trump's threat still looming large, the Commanders cleared another hurdle in their aim to return to the site of their former home, RFK Stadium, on Friday when the District of Columbia Council approved the legislation. The bill passed by a 9-3 vote, though it still must be approved a second time by the council before being sent to Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser, who negotiated the original plan with Commanders owner Josh Harris in April. Washington currently plays at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, but aims to open a new venue in 2030. After the bill was passed, Harris said on Friday: 'Today's approval by the Council is transformational for D.C. and brings the Commanders back to our spiritual home. Like many fans, RFK was the site of memories that fueled my love for this team and this city. Now we're closer than ever to reigniting that energy for a new generation. 'We're incredibly grateful to the Mayor and the Council throughout this process for their leadership and guidance. 'This is a historic moment. This project is about more than delivering a world-class stadium worthy of our players, fans and the region. It's about revitalizing a critical part of our city, creating thousands of jobs and unlocking long-term economic benefits for the District. We look forward to working with our fans, residents, community leaders and elected officials to deliver on this vision.' The ownership group led by Harris has been considering locations in Washington, Maryland and Virginia since buying the team from Dan Snyder in 2022. Congress passed a bill transferring the RFK Stadium land to the city that was signed by then-President Joe Biden in early January. That paved the way for making it possible to replace the old stadium with a mixed-use development, including the new playing field for the Commanders. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson's office recently estimated the redevelopment could generate $26.6bn in tax revenue over 30 years. The district would contribute $1bn toward the stadium project, while the team would fund the remaining $2.7bn. However, Trump is now threatening to stand in the way of the project if his Redskins wish is not fulfilled. That issue did not come up in Friday's council meeting. Fans and even some Native American groups have voiced support for the team's new ownership group to revert to 'Redskins.' Several public opinion polls of self-identified Native Americans have found most were not offended by the term, while critics have pointed to academic research by the University of Michigan and UC Berkeley that found the opposite was true. Trump appeared to reference the public polling in favor of a name change on Sunday. 'Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen,' he claimed. 'Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!' He also demanded the same from MLB's Cleveland Guardians, née: 'Indians.' 'Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past,' Trump wrote.

Charlie Woods stumbles at Jr. PGA, falls short in Ryder Cup qualifying bid

August 1 - Charlie Woods dropped into a tie for ninth on the final day of the Junior PGA Championship, which took him out of the running for a qualifying spot for the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team on Friday. The 16-year-old son of Tiger Woods shot back-to-back 66s in the second and third rounds at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind., and was tied for second place entering the final round. But he posted a final-round 74 at the Ackerman-Allen course on Friday, with three bogeys and a double bogey over his final 10 holes. The Junior Ryder Cup will take place Sept. 23-25 at Bethpage Black and Nassau Country Club, just ahead of the senior event between the U.S. and Team Europe that weekend. There is also one captain's pick for the team, although Woods is likely not in line to be selected for it. Lunden Esterline was the runaway winner of the Junior PGA Championship with a final score of 19-under-par 266 (featuring a second-round 62). Giuseppe Puebla shot a final-round 64 to rocket into a tie for second at 13 under with Tyler Mawhinney (69). In doing so, Puebla received the other automatic qualifying spot for the Junior Ryder Cup. Esterline, from Andover, Kan., is a 2027 Auburn commit. Puebla, from Royal Palm Beach, Fla., is also part of the Class of 2027 and uncommitted for college. Charlie Woods finished 9 under for the week, 10 off Esterline's pace and four strokes out of the running for a Ryder Cup qualifying spot. --Field Level Media

NFL WAG reveals brutal reality of the league after her husband's shock release in wake of horrific neck injury

An NFL WAG has revealed the brutal reality of the league after her husband was released by his team during his recovery from a broken neck. It was revealed on Wednesday that the Cincinnati Bengals had cut running back Zack Moss, following an official announcement from the team. Moss, 27, was previously on the non-football injury list pertaining to a neck injury that cut his season short in 2024. Moss' wife, Jessica, had previously taken to social media to talk about 'one of the hardest weeks' after Moss returned to the Bengals' training camp. Then, after the running back was officially cut from the side, Jessica returned to TikTok to open up about the brutal decision. In a video posted on the platform, she said: 'I'm on my daily walk with my two kiddos after finding out that my husband was just released from his job. 'For those who don't know, my husband is a running back for the Bengals and I received a text from him this morning saying that he was just released by the team. 'This wasn't super surprising news to me because he is injured - he's recovering from a neck injury. For those who don't know, neck injuries are very severe, especially in the NFL. 'Obviously the team had their reasons for releasing him or whatever but 'lack of talent' isn't one of them. He's a great pass blocker, one of the reasons that Cincinnati wanted him. But anyway, I wasn't going to let that keep me in a bad space'. In a previous video that Jessica posted, she revealed that Zack had been suffering from 'scary symptoms' as a result of the injury. 'He is recovering from an injury from last season. He fractured his neck and he is not completely healthy yet. He has some scary symptoms and we are just rehabbing and doing everything [he] can to get healthy.' Last season, Moss signed a two-year contract worth $8million. He then re-structured his deal for a contract worth $1.7m in 2025. Cutting him leads to the Bengals eating a $1.88m dead cap penalty, but will net Cincinnati $1.2m in cap savings. Moss' return from injury coincided with an already-packed running back room at Paycor Stadium. Jessica, who wed Zack in October 2022, is often seen supporting her husband at training Moss' absence led to the rise of Chase Brown, a 2024 draft pick, as one of the best young running backs in the NFL. Add to that the selection of Texas Tech rusher Tahj Brooks in the sixth round of this year's draft and the re-signing of Samaje Perine, and the Bengals seemed chock full of running back options. According to The Athletic, Moss discussed retirement with Bengals head coach Zac Taylor. However, with three young children, Moss hoped to earn more NFL money before eventually calling it quits.
