
Over 20 million pilgrims benefit from Makkah Grand Mosque's advanced services last year
MAKKAH — The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has been exerting great efforts in offering diverse and best ever possible services for pilgrims and visitors to the Grand Mosque in Makkah throughout the year 1446 AH.
The authority reported that over 20 million pilgrims and visitors have benefited from its advanced services, and these include more than 17 million who took advantage of directional guidance. More than 3.28 million people utilized cart services, and over 227,000 used the luggage storage service. More than 525,000 pilgrims benefited from the Tahallul service.
Over 3.66 million Zamzam water bottles were distributed among the worshipers at the mosque. Over 9,700 tons of waste were removed to maintain cleanliness around the Grand Mosque and its courtyards.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to excellence, aligning with the Kingdom's vision for serving the Two Holy Mosques, delivering high-quality services, and enriching the experiences of pilgrims and visitors.

Tourism Ministry intensifies inspections across summer destinations, records 170 violations
Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — The Ministry of Tourism has stepped up its regulatory oversight of tourism activity providers across various summer destinations in cities and regions throughout the Kingdom, carrying out approximately 2,750 inspection visits over the past month. These inspections resulted in the detection of around 170 violations, as part of the Ministry's efforts to ensure that all providers of tourism-related activities are properly licensed in accordance with the Tourism Law. The campaign aims to protect the rights of tourists and visitors — both domestic and international — during the peak of Saudi Arabia's summer tourism season. In the Asir region alone, the Ministry's inspection teams conducted more than 420 visits, uncovering over 25 violations. In Taif, more than 360 inspections were carried out, resulting in about 25 violations. Meanwhile, in Jeddah, over 1,680 inspections were conducted, revealing more than 110 violations. In Al-Baha, more than 280 inspections led to the discovery of five violations. The Ministry stressed that all tourism activity providers — including travel agencies, tourism consultancies, and event organizers — must adhere to the provisions of the Tourism Law and its regulations to safeguard the interests of tourists. It also urged the public to report any complaints or service-related issues by contacting the unified tourism center at 930.

25 hospitality facilities shut down in Makkah over licensing and safety violations

The inspections are part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to verify that hospitality facilities meet all approved requirements and hold the necessary permits to operate. The initiative aligns with the ministry's broader objective to enhance service quality for visitors and pilgrims during the busy Umrah and Hajj seasons. The ministry emphasized the importance of all facilities adhering to Saudi Arabia's tourism regulations and executive bylaws. It warned that penalties for non-compliance could include fines of up to SR1 million, closure orders, or also reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing these rules to improve service standards, safeguard guests, and uphold the reputation of Makkah as a premier religious tourism destination.

Saudi train ridership tops 36.5 million in Q2 2025
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's rail sector recorded more than 36.5 million passengers using train services in the second quarter of 2025, up by 1 million compared to the first quarter, according to figures released Thursday by the Transport General Authority (TGA). Urban rail services saw strong growth, with over 33.8 million passengers using metro systems across the Kingdom. Riyadh Metro led the figures, transporting more than 23.6 million passengers. The automated people mover at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah followed with over 7.76 million users, while Princess Nourah University's campus rail in Riyadh saw over 512,000 passengers. Intercity train services also witnessed a 10% year-on-year increase, with over 2.67 million passengers traveling between Saudi cities by rail during the same and minerals transport via rail remained a key contributor to economic logistics, with over 4.08 million tons of goods and more than 232,000 containers shipped, underscoring the railway network's vital role in supporting the industrial and mining sectors as part of the National Transport and Logistics TGA reaffirmed the importance of railways in offering safe, sustainable transport options, helping reduce carbon emissions, and improving quality of life across the Kingdom.
