Bradley Walsh said 'they sadly let me go' as he opened up about a major setback earlier in his career.
The 65-year-old is known to many now as the popular host of ITV quiz show The Chase. Before that he appeared on a host of TV shows, including a two-year spell as Danny Baldwin on Coronation Street.
But Bradley's career could have taken a very different turn early on. Aged just 18, in 1979, he signed a professional contract with football team Brentford.
His time as a professional footballer saw him going on loan at Barnet as well as having spells with Tring Town, Boreham Wood and Chalfont St Peter. Although, at 22, he was forced to give up his playing career after suffering an ankle fracture.
On the Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? podcast in 2024, Bradley opened up about the moment he signed for Brentford as well as being let go by the club. He explained: 'I was playing locally for my mum's hospital team, she worked in a hospital, and I was playing in a match, I'd played for the county and things like that, and I'd been a Watford junior, and then, unbeknownst to me, I'd been watched for about a month.

'I'd had a good month and it was the groundsman who was the chief scout at Brentford and he came and watched me and he gave me the opportunity to play on a Monday evening against Southend United and I scored the winning goal.
'That was it, and I signed on for two years. I played about 50 games and I scored two goals.'
Bradley says he '100 percent' would have had a 'full football career' if he could. He believed he was 'on the brink' of making it through to the first team before he started suffering with injuries.
He added: 'Sadly, I suffered a quite bad injury, I was always recovering from an injury, and that's one of the reasons they let me go in the end. I was just too injury prone.'

After his football career came to an end, Bradley became a bluecoat at Pontins before working as a stand-up comic. It was then he was recruited by what was Anglia Television.
His first venture into presenting game shows was with Wheel of Fortune in 1997. In 2020, Bradley fronted a Christmas edition of Blankety Blank.
The programme was a hit, watched by 5.26 million people, prompting the BBC to commission a full series. The show sees a panel of six celebrities attempting to help a contestant fill in the blanks and win prizes.
This week's famous faces are Sue Perkins, Iain Stirling, Dermot O'Leary, Naga Munchetty, Ellie Simmonds and Layton Williams. Blankety Blank will air tonight (June 21) at 8pm on BBC One.

Emmerdale fans hit out at dullest villain in soap's history

Meanwhile, he then found Owen Michaels (Simon Haines) unconscious during a home visit, but left him to die, as he came up with a plan to attempt to frame him for Nate's death. Instead of calling an ambulance and getting help, John wrote a note on Owen's laptop, 'confessing' he killed Nate. 8 Most Iconic British Soap Characters of All Time Emmerdale fans slam 'boring' villain John Sugden on ITV soap But viewers don't seem too impressed with John's tactics as many on Reddit claim he is the 'most boring 'serial killer/villain' they've ever seen'. Someone's post on the r/emmerdale subreddit said: 'I know this sounds super morbid but c'mon, am I alone in thinking we've been waiting ages for him to get really 'villian-y'?!' They added: 'I've been waiting for this man to go full-on psycho, otherwise, we've just suffered along with this boring story for close to a year now to watch him squirrel around the village with rolled up sleeves 24/7, act like a weirdo, and talk about how great of a medic he is??' This fan agreed: 'You nailed it! He's BORING.' Another wrote: 'I think he bores himself, hence the need to feel that high of bringing folks to the brink of death and then playing hero to revive them.' One person commented: 'His rolled up sleeves are the most interesting thing about him.' While this profile responded: 'Yes, he is so boring easily the dullest and most uninteresting serial killer in soap history.' However, some disagree and think John is an 'interesting' character. This viewer explained: 'The weird need to be a saviour, the fact you can tell he feels guilty about his actions (especially Nate) yet can't bring himself not to do it again or hand himself in. Soaps That Have Won the Most Awards 'I've enjoyed the slow burn and seeing how his actions have managed to go undetected so far. 'I'm very much looking forward to seeing the truth come out and how he reacts and how the rest of the village will react too.' Also in agreement, one viewer shared: 'I enjoy him! He's a quieter, calmer, different kind of villain'. They revealed the character is better than the 'usual' sort of villain the soap has become known for, 'with dramatic murders, unrealistic kidnappings, and over-the-top hostage situations'. The fan continued: 'Of course I say this and John's probably going to kidnap somebody at some point. Hopefully not though. 'But I enjoy that they're playing it like he's just a desperate guy who does kind of bad things for selfish reasons. I think the hero complex angle is quite fresh for soap. 'We are getting a decent insight into his guilt and feelings and such through the helpline calls and just his whole haunted demeanor, which adds to the complexity. I guess it's just not that engaging for some people. 'Maybe it's missing a bit of backstory to tell us why he's like this, I'm not sure.' Recommended reading: This person, who is also a fan of John, said: 'I like him. He's not written or acted like your typical soap villain, which makes him interesting to me. I think if he hadn't been paired with Aaron - who brings down every character he's tied to - his reception would have been better.' Someone else who enjoys John's character chimed in: 'I like him, think he's quite nuanced and layered - hate him but that's what makes him enjoyable.' How do you feel about John Sugden on Emmerdale? Josie Gibson's major new role at ITV as This Morning presenter takes on personal project

Josie Gibson will soon be seen on ITV's This Morning as she stands in for Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard while they take a break this summer. She'll also star in an ITV show. This Morning's Josie Gibson is set to transform her Somerset abode into the "dream home" she's always envisioned in an upcoming ITV series. ‌ The 40 year old television personality, who rose to fame after clinching victory on Big Brother in 2010, has since presented a variety of shows including Channel 5's Around The World In First Class and Channel 4's Ultimate Christmas Gift Guide With Josie Gibson. ‌ In addition to finishing fourth in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2023, Gibson has become a familiar face on This Morning and is gearing up to cover for Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard during their summer hiatus. ‌ Hailing from Bristol, the TV favourite is embarking on a project to revamp her Somerset residence with an emphasis on sustainable living. Her plans include installing a subterranean heat pump, cultivating her own produce, and establishing beehives on the property. Josie expressed her aspirations: "My dream is to build a house as eco and luxurious as possible, where you are immersed in the sanctuary of nature." ‌ She further elaborated on her vision: "I want to use the acres of land to try my best to have a little small holding. I want bees, birds, badgers to all live in harmony." However, she also voiced concerns about the project: "Though I'm becoming increasingly concerned that my harmonious dream is slowly turning into a construction nightmare. I can't wait to bring the audience along on this journey with me." Gibson won't be tackling the renovation solo; she'll be drawing on the expertise of her brothers, Josh and Charlie, who are scrap metal traders, and her cousin Tom. ‌ Together, they aim to construct a haven complete with an on-site gym, a walk-in wardrobe, and tinted windows. The seven-part series, Josie Gibson's Big Country Build, is set to air across ITV1, STV, ITVX and STV Player in 2026. ‌ Katie Rawcliffe, Director of entertainment and daytime for ITV, commented: "She's done a stint in the jungle and tackled all manner of outlandish tasks on This Morning, but our audiences are about to see a completely new side to Josie Gibson as she embraces country life and takes sustainable living to a whole new level." In a recent interview, Josie opened up about the challenges of juggling motherhood with her career. She said: "I often suffer from mum guilt. I beat myself up that I'm not with Reggie all the time because you never get that time back with your kid." Despite the tough choices she faced while forging her path in television, Josie now enjoys a more harmonious work-life balance. Reflecting on her journey, she revealed: "There was a point where I worked a lot - far too much - but I needed to get where I wanted to be, and I sacrificed time with him and that was really sad. These days, I have much more of a balance."

BBC 'masterpiece' period drama based on 'greatest book of all time' leaves viewers speechless

The BBC period drama is based on a very famous novel and has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. A BBC TV adaptation of a very famous novel has caught the attention of impressed viewers who have branded it a "true masterpiece". There have been several adaptations of Charlotte Brontë's famous 1847 novel Jane Eyre, but one in particular has left fans raving. ‌ The BBC's adaptation of Jane Eyre follows the early life of the titular character, who is raised as a poor relation in the household of her aunt, Mrs. Reed. Jane receives cruel treatment from her aunt and cousins and is put into an orphanage. ‌ When she is old enough to work, she is hired by the housekeeper of Thornfield Hall, Mrs. Fairfax, to be a governess for young Adèle (Cosima Littlewood) at the country estate. However, when she becomes entangled with the brooding master of Thornfield Hall, Edward Fairfax Rochester, his dark past threatens to destroy their relationship. ‌ The four-episode show, which hit screens in 2006, is directed by Susanna White and written by Sandy Welch, the Express reports. Ruth Wilson stars as Jane while Toby Stephens portrays Edward. The cast also features Lorraine Ashbourne, Pam Ferris and Andrew Buchan. ‌ The BBC series was a hit with fans and dominated the 2007 award season, scooping up a BAFTA and three Primetime Emmy Awards. Jane Eyre currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It is based on Charlotte Brontë's book, which is widely considered to be one of the greatest novels of all time. Praising Brontë's work online, one wrote: "Everyone should be a fan of Jane Eyre, it's the greatest novel ever." ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! It is now my favorite. If you're thinking of reading it, do not hesitate and read it immediately because you'll regret the moments you spent without reading this masterpiece!" A third chimed in: "This is easily a five star book for me. I love the way that this is written— beautiful, descriptive, and brilliant. ‌ "Some may take the descriptive aspect as a weakness, but for me, it was an important addition to the emotional impact of the book. Story wise, I have no words. The angst of the plot will keep you going." Someone else wrote: "Jane Eyre (greatest novel of all time IMO". A fifth penned: "Marvellous!!! It really was and still is one of the best novels of all time." ‌ The series has also received similar levels of praise with one viewer declaring: "Okay but the 2006 BBC masterpiece Jane Eyre is…… I don't know, a perfect series." A second said: "I highly recommend Jane Eyre from 2006 or 2007 with Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson, a true masterpiece." Another impressed fan questioned: "Is there a show out there that can possibly contend with the BBC 's 2006 miniseries masterpiece Jane Eyre? unlikely." ‌ Someone else commented: "This is the most beautiful adaptation of Jane Eyre. The acting is all round superb. "Eyre and Rochester are full of soul, something lacking in other depictions that only focus on the seriousness of the characters, often failing to portray their passion." Expressing their admiration for the show, a fifth added: "This show did not need to be this well done. They could've left it to be like other book tv show adaptations… yet they delivered!!! "They understood the assignment and did the extra credit!! They knew it could be the greatest, and aimed higher!! Loved the acting, loved the set, the music, the directing!! Everything is so good!"
