Brazil's Fluminense knocks out Inter Milan in Club World Cup
The Brazilians move on to face the Manchester City-Al Hilal winner on Friday in Orlando, Florida.
Almost before both teams were able to break a sweat in the 90-degrees Fahrenheit heat, Jhon Arias sent a slightly deflected crossing pass from the right corner that Cano headed between goalkeeper Yann Sommer's legs into the net for a 1-0 lead.
It was all they would need.
The Brazilians appeared to add to their lead late in the first half, but Ignacio's header into the net was waived off due to being offside.
On the other end of the pitch, Milan kept pressing, eager for the tie.
The Italians controlled the time of possession throughout the match, owning the ball 68% of the time, and certainly had its chances after outshooting the Brazilian team 16-11.
But Milan simply couldn't will the ball into the net.
It was one bad bounce after another. And often times when one of their shots was saved there was no one there to score off a rebound.
Fluminense's Hercules eventually added a goal on a wide open shot for Fluminense in stoppage time for the final 2-0 margin.
As the match was winding down Fluminense players jumped up and down on the sideline. That celebration carried over to the field after the match, where they hopped up and down in unison in a huddle, their arms wrapped around each other.
After the game, frustrated Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez told reporters that "whoever doesn't want to be here should leave."
The match got heated at one point after a Fluminense player on the bench appeared to grab one of the balls on the sideline to prevent an Inter Milan advantage after a ball was kicked out of bounds. The Brazilian team received a yellow card, but not until after players exchanged shoves.
Martínez had a point-blank shot in the second half to tie the game, but the ball hit off the upright. He couldn't believe his bad luck and shook his head in disbelief.
Fluminense had changed its defensive strategy before the match to use three defensive backs to defend against Milan.
Just 20,030 fans were in attendance at the 74,867 capacity stadium. Stadium officials invited patrons from the upper deck to come sit in the lower deck, which was still half empty.

Kolo Muani steadied himself as goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois advanced to meet him, but the France striker lifted the ball on to the roof of the Real net. Another fine piece of skill allowed Yildiz to drive at the Real defence, who were grateful Aurelien Tchouameni got in the way of his goalbound attempt. Francisco Conceicao headed straight at Courtois before Real eventually warmed to their task. Michele Di Gregorio was twice called upon to make smart saves in the Juventus goal, swatting away Tchouameni's deflected drive and then doing just enough to deny Jude Bellingham. Advertisement Tchouameni failed to make contact from Arda Guler's brilliant centre, and Di Gregorio was at full stretch to keep out Federico Valverde from 25 yards as Real finished the half on top. It was the same story after the restart as Valverde and Alexander-Arnold fired wide and Di Gregorio excelled again to frustrate Bellingham and Dean Huijsen from range. Real's pressure eventually told when Alexander-Arnold found space down the right and set up Garcia. Conceicao and Nicolas Gonzalez sent dangerous shots across Real's bow from outside the box, but those efforts were very much against the run of play. Juventus were grateful for the outstanding Di Gregorio, who showed more agility to stop Guler and Tchouameni from extending the lead. Kolo Muani went to ground in the final moments as Antonio Rudiger closed him out, with Polish referee Szymon Marciniak waving away hopeful Juventus penalty claims. Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia has revealed Raul keeps in touch with him after each game and said comparisons to his former Castilla coach are a 'great compliment'. Gonzalo has been the breakout player for Madrid during the Club World Cup, scoring the only goal of the game in the last-16 win over Juventus to bring his goal tally to three in four appearances. Gonzalo García's header powers Real Madrid past Juventus 1-0 and into Club World Cup quarterfinals
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Breakout tournament star Gonzalo García scored his third goal of the Club World Cup to power Real Madrid past Juventus 1-0 in the round of 16 on Tuesday afternoon and into the quarterfinals. García has started all four of Real Madrid's matches because of a gastrointestinal illness to star striker Kylian Mbappé. The 21-year-old broke a second-half tie with a header in the 54th minute, giving him a goal contribution in every match of the tournament. García subbed out in the 68th as Mbappé checked in, making his Club World Cup debut after he was briefly hospitalized with the illness. He missed Real Madrid's three group stage matches. García's header Tuesday came after Real Madrid had forced Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio into consecutive spectacular saves in the opening minutes of the second half. It was an incredible performance from the Italian goalie, whose 10 saves kept the match close. It was a scoreless and evenly contested first half, the first time either team had been held without a goal in the opening half of a match in the tournament. Both sides had chances, including Randal Kolo Muani's effort that went over the bar seven minutes in and Federico Valverde's shot that was denied by Di Gregorio before the end of the half.
