2025 Emmy nominations full list: 'Severance' leads with 27 nods, as 'The Penguin,' 'The Studio' and 'The White Lotus' follow closely behind
The nominees for television's best shows and performances from the past year, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, were presented live by actors Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) and Brenda Song (Running Point).
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and stream live on Paramount+. The show will be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze.The Daily Show

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the three-time Emmy winner revealed his reaction to learning he had landed his first nod for acting. 'I play an a------ version of myself,' Howard says. 'Apparently, it went over. I have many noms and even some wins on the producing and directing side, but first nom as an actor, which is kind of funny.' 'I'm getting a kick out of it,' he adds of his 14th Primetime Emmys nod. In The Studio, Howard is among several A-list stars who play fictionalized versions of themselves. The Studio stars Seth Rogen as Matt Remick, the new head of Continental Studios, an embattled movie studio. The series' logline reads, 'As movies struggle to stay alive and relevant, Matt and his core team of infighting executives battle their insecurities as they wrangle narcissistic artists and craven corporate overlords in the ever-elusive pursuit of making great films.' 'With their power suits masking their never-ending sense of panic, every party, set visit, casting decision, marketing meeting and award show presents them with an opportunity for glittering success or career-ending catastrophe,' the logline continues. In episode 3, which came out in April, Howard's character cries when Rogen's studio head character gives him a difficult piece of feedback, resulting in Howard angrily throwing his signature baseball cap at him. White also writes the Citation Needed newsletter and is a Wikipedia admin. And I highly recommend her talk at the 2024 XOXO Festival about good things on the web, which I got to see live. Here's her homescreen and her explanation of what's on it. The phone: Pixel 7. I'm of the 'drive it until the wheels fall off' type when it comes to electronics, so this three-year-old phone is actually somewhat on the new end for me. The wallpaper: A photo of my cat, Ruthie. The apps: The apps are all labeled, save for the quickbar ones: Signal, Bluesky, Proton Mail, Google Calendar, and Chrome. The two cut-off names are Pocket Casts and CloudLibrary. Signal is my primary messaging app both for my work and for personal use, and I highly recommend it. Out of end-to-end encrypted messaging platforms, it's an excellent choice — and I think everyone should strongly consider using E2EE to protect their privacy, regardless of whether they think they need it or not. You'll also see Tor on the screen; that's a privacy-focused web browser that I use frequently. I'm a big reader, so it's probably not surprising that three of the apps on the home screen are book-related. CloudLibrary and Libby are the apps my libraries use for their digital lending, which is primarily how I get the audiobooks I enjoy listening to while I walk my dog (when I'm not listening to podcasts on Pocket Casts, that is). StoryGraph is how I keep track of all the books I read, and it's a strong improvement over Goodreads. I just finished listening to the audiobook for Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, which was very good. I'm a very heavy RSS user, and Inoreader is my RSS reader. It's perhaps a bit ironic as someone who writes an email newsletter that I don't like reading newsletters in my email inbox, but I much prefer to sit down and read my newsletters at my preferred reading time than have them interrupt me throughout my day. I've got hundreds of feeds that I follow, and Inoreader also has a great feature where it can convert email newsletters that don't offer built-in RSS feeds (for shame!) into a feed. Probably half of the feeds I follow are food blogs for recipe ideas, and good recipes go into Paprika, a fantastic recipe app that I also use for grocery lists. I've been using that app for years, and as a frequent cook I've collected about 800 recipes in there by now. Education layoffs, royal book, Emmy nominations, rising wedding costs: The week in review
High court OKs education cuts The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on July 14 that the Trump administration could move forward with laying off more than 1,300 Education Department workers. The staffers, whose responsibilities included helping protect students and teachers from discrimination, assisting college financial aid offices and compiling data about the nation's schools, were laid off in March. The Supreme Court's green light came with caveats, though: The justices didn't rule on the merits of the case. They only allowed the agency to carry out the layoffs while a legal challenge proceeds. Queen bonded with presidents A new book aims to show Britain's Queen Elizabeth II wasn't just a woman in a colorful hat. The queen, whose 70-year reign made her the nation's longest-ruling monarch, met 13 sitting U.S. presidents over her lifetime, more than any other American or foreign head of state. 'The Queen and Her Presidents' will be published by HarperCollins on April 14, just days before the 100th anniversary of the queen's birth. It is written by Susan Page, USA TODAY's Washington bureau chief. It will chronicle her transformation from a shy, anxious princess to a powerful and persuasive leader and will provide candid assessments of America's commanders-in-chief. Saying I do to higher costs Wedding season is in full swing and if invites are stacking up, celebrating friends and family can turn into a budgeting problem fast. Between travel, accommodations, gifts and attire, guests spent $610 on average to attend a wedding in 2024, according to a study by The Knot, a wedding resources website. Of course, the amount guests spend depends on whether they need to travel. On average, guests spend $270 for a local wedding, $840 when they drive to an out-of-town wedding, and $1,680 when flights are required to reach the venue. The average wedding gift cost guests $150 in 2024, $10 less than in previous years. 'Severance' leads Emmy nominations The Emmy nominations are here! Apple TV+'s drama "Severance" leads the mentions with an impressive 27 nods, followed by HBO Max's "The Penguin" with 24. Apple's "The Studio" and HBO's "The White Lotus" tied for third place with 23 honors, and HBO's "The Last of Us" earned 16 nominations. "The Studio" also tied the record set in 2024 by "The Bear" for most nominations for a comedy series. Harrison Ford, 83, earned his first Emmy nod for his role as the ornery therapist on Apple TV's "Shrinking" (seven nominations). Rays may be sold for $1.7B Tampa Bay Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg has agreed in principle to sell the MLB team to a group headed by Jacksonville, Florida, developer Patrick Zalupski for roughly $1.7 billion, according to a report by The Athletic. The agreement comes just four months after the Rays backed away from a deal to build a new stadium in St. Petersburg, Florida, near the site of their longtime home, Tropicana Field.
