Sai Sudharshan's Pre-Batting Routine Goes Viral, Gives 'Rahul Dravid' Deja Vu To Fans

NDTV23-06-2025
Young batter Sai Sudharsan finally got a chance to make a Test debut for India but his beginning was quite disappointing. Sudharsan, who plays for Gujarat Titans in the IPL, was dismissed for a duck in the first innings. However, he showed some zeal and scored 30 off 48 balls before getting dismissed by Ben Stokes in the second innings. The 23-year-old batter is known for his brilliant shots and will be eager to contribute more in the upcoming Tests against England.
During second innings on Day 3, the cameraman captured a brilliant moment of Sudharsan, when he was trying to meditate before coming out to bat.
In a video going viral on social media, Sudharsan was seen holding a ball and focussing on it, in order to mentally prepare himself to bat. He was later seen taking down some notes on a paper and doing some analysis of the game.

Notably, former India coach Rahul Dravid is popular for writing down notes during the game. He used to maintain the scorecard of the match in his notebook and analyze it later to prepare for the next match.
KL Rahul drove his way to a sublime 47 after England negated India's advantage by totalling 465 in their first innings as the visitors had another ordinary day in the field on day three of the first Test.
India dropped as many as five catches and barring Jasprit Bumrah, the effort from the pacers left a lot to be desired, allowing England to even out the game after the Shubman Gill -led side posted 471 in its first essay.
At stumps, India reached 90 for two with Rahul (47 batting off 75) and Shubman Gill (6 batting off 10).
Brydon Carse had Yashavi Jaiswal (4 off 11) caught behind with a ball that seamed away while Ben Stokes got rid of debutant Sai Sudharsan (30 off 48) for the second time in the game, the southpaw's flick falling into the hands of Zak Crawley at mid-wicket.
Rahul was a delight to watch as he majority of his seven fours came via the cove driver off the fast bowlers. He did not look any discomfort whatsoever despite the ball doing a bit in overcast conditions.
Stumps were drawn when rain arrived at Headingley with India leading by 96 runs.

'I told GG bhai, boundaries aren't coming': Mid-innings chat with Gautam Gambhir triggered Shubman Gill's epic 269

It has been a record-breaking outing in Birmingham for Shubman Gill, as India firmly seized control of the second Test by the close of Day 2. After piling up a mammoth first-innings total of 587, India had England reeling at 77/3 — a position of dominance largely scripted by Gill's epic 269, the highest-ever score by a visiting Asian captain in England. And for that knock, the young skipper credits head coach Gautam Gambhir. Shubman Gill scripted history with his 269-run knock against England Having already notched up his second consecutive hundred in his debut series as captain on Day 1 at Edgbaston, Gill went on to torment England further, making their decision to bowl first on a flat deck look increasingly questionable. His double hundred made him the first Asian captain to score 200 or more in a Test in England. He eventually finished with his career-best first-class score of 269 — surpassing his previous best of 268, made for Punjab against Tamil Nadu in the 2018–19 season. Yet, Gill admitted it wasn't as easy as he made it look. Speaking to former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta at stumps on Day 2, he revealed that in his initial stretch of 40 runs — scored during the second session on Day 1 — he struggled to find boundaries. It was a chat with Gambhir during the Tea break that helped unlock his rhythm and triggered what would go down as a historic knock. "Yesterday, when I went out to bat, which came around lunchtime on Day 1, at Tea, by which I had scored around 35-40, I spoke to GG bhai, telling him that I found it difficult getting boundaries and I was missing out on a lot of opportunities. The ball, by then, had turned soft, but I could not score runs as freely as in the first Test. But I had just one aim that I would not let go of it. If there was one learning for me from the previous game, it was that there could be a collapse at any time in the game. So my mindset was to make as few errors as possible," he said. 'England preparations began during IPL' Dasgupta highlighted some of the key aspects Gill changed in his batting technique for the tour of England, and the 25-year-old agreed, saying that he had started working on it during the IPL season to have that edge before the start of the series. However, Gill explained that it was more a mental preparation after a quiet tour of Australia last season, which saw him go back to his basics and make sure he enjoys his batting, rather than concentrating on getting big scores. "I worked a lot on it during the IPL and right before the start of the series. While I was scoring runs in previous matches, I felt that I lacked concentration. Many advised me that when we focus a lot, we tend to miss the peak time, and hence, my focus was largely around going back to the basics. It was not about scoring big runs, but about enjoying my batting. Sometimes, when you are not scoring runs, you tend to focus a lot on it, and hence don't enjoy the moment. "There is a lot of difference between T20 and Test batting, so I thought starting my preparations right now would give me the edge by the time the series begins," he said. India lead by 510 runs in the first innings, with England set to resume at 77 for three on Day 3.

"Did not feel he would get out....": Jadeja on captain Gill's marathon at Birmingham

Birmingham [UK], July 4 (ANI): Following his side's fine day at field on day two of the Test, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja hailed skipper Shubman Gill's historic double ton, saying that it did not look like he was going to get dismissed and the 'extra responsibility' of captaincy does not show in his batting. Gill produced a masterclass for ages, with his 387-ball 269 propelling India to 587 before three early wickets left England tottering at 25/3, and the hosts ended their day at 77/3, with Joe Root (18*) and Harry Brook (30*) on the crease. After India was 211/5 on day one, Gill's 203-run stand with Jadeja (89 in 107 balls, with 10 fours and a six) and 144-run stand with Washington Sundar (42 in 103 balls, with three fours and a six). Speaking during the post-day presser, Jadeja said about Gill's knock, 'Honestly, he looks very confident. He does not look like a captain in batting. He has been given an extra responsibility. He is carrying everything with him. I do not feel anything like that in his batting. Even today, unluckily, the ball went in his (fielder's) hand. But today, I did not feel that he would be out in this inning. He played very well. When we were batting together, we were talking about partnership. That we will have a long partnership, and we will keep talking to each other.' Speaking about his conversations with 13-year-old Kuldeep Yadav, Jadeja said that it is about the balance of the team and if Kuldeep gets a chance, he will prove to be a 'wicket-taking option'. 'The team needs balance. You will get a chance. But when we go out, we do not talk about cricket. We talk about something else. You should not think about things that are not in the player's control. When you get a chance to perform, it will be for the team's benefit,' he added. On the presence of spin on this wicket so far, Jadeja noted that the surface has not assisted them much, and the spinner's role is to keep the right field and bowl in the right areas to create problems for a batter. 'Even now, I will say that there is nothing in front of me. I haven't seen a single ball spin in two days. As the game progresses, I hope that the spinner gets more help from such wickets. As the game progresses, the pressure of the scoreboard will also remain in the batsman's mind,' he concluded. (ANI)

Grandpa's thumbs-up to Shubhman's iconic double ton in test match

Bathinda: When Shubhman Gill became the first Indian captain to hit an iconic double ton in a Test match in England, his 90-year-old grandfather Didar Singh, who had been watching his stroke play on television, smiled serenely and showed the thumbs-up sign. He also said this had infused new strength in him, and he felt younger than his 90 years. Shubhman scored his 200th run on the first ball of the 122nd over of the first innings of the match bowled by J Tongue. Literally on cloud nine, Didar Singh reminisced about the time when a bat-wielding Shubhman, barely 5 years old then, had climbed onto his lap. With this feat, Shubhman has become the youngest to score a double ton in ODIs and Tests at 25 years, making Punjab proud of his feat. He is only the second from Punjab after Navjot Singh Sidhu to score a double century in Test matches. Sidhu had scored 201 runs against the West Indies in the second Test of the 1997 series at Port of Spain. Shubhman has also joined the elite league comprising only Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, having scored double hundreds as a captain of the national squad. Shubhman had scored 208 runs in a one day international (ODI) on Jan 18, 2023, in the first match of the series against New Zealand, becoming the fifth Indian batsman to hit a double century in ODIs and the youngest batsman to achieve the feat. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 'I couldn't hear my grandchildren anymore...' – Find out how she did it. Seeing his keen interest in cricket, my son Lakhwinder shifted to Jalalabad when Shubhman was only seven years old, as there were better sports facilities in Jalalabad. After some time, he shifted to Chandigarh for Shubhman's career in cricket. " The cricketer was born on Sep 8, 1999, at Punjab's Chak Jaimal Singh Wala village. Didar Singh last met Shubhman nearly three months ago at his Mohali residence and witnessed him play in a stadium duing the the 2024 IPL matches at Jaipur and Ahmedabad. Didar Singh, along with his wife Gurmail Kaur, said, "Shubhman loved me a lot and used to spend most of his time with me until he shifted to Jalalabad. When he began playing international cricket, he used to ring me up when he achieved any milestone… infusing me with a booster dose of joy and strength. It is the same today." The string of congratulatory messages for Gill's grandparents had them basking in his glory. MSID:: 122231004 413 |
