Georgia Troopers Smack Down Car Theft Suspect

Georgia troopers are known for not treating fleeing suspects kindly, so to see them smack down this car thief is no surprise. The guy was in the wrong kind of car for running from Georgia State Patrol: a Ford Fusion. There's been a bad track record with those sedans and police chases in the past.At least in this pursuit nobody died or was seriously injured, although the suspect got close to hitting innocent bystanders. He even caught some air.
In the dashcam footage you can see everything started off calm enough. Two troopers move into position behind the suspect vehicle after it's been identified. Once they go lights and sirens the guy doesn't just take off but instead drives like he's trying to find a place to pull over.
The thing is there are a lot of good places to pull over and get arrested. He obviously is stalling, looking for an escape route with less traffic. Turning left, he finds it and punches the accelerator.
While a Ford Fusion might be great for blending in and stealing hotter rides, it's not a good getaway vehicle. He can't out-accelerate the GSP Dodge Chargers, even when he sends it at the railroad crossing and catches some decent air.
But the guy is obviously determined to make something out of nothing, so he keeps flogging the poor Fusion. But as he enters a freeway, one trooper swoops in and PITs him. The suspect obviously has done this before, because he just drives out of the PIT and keeps going.
That's when a second trooper delivers one hell of a PIT, sending the Ford careening into a roadside barrier hard. It's the end of the line for the sedan, but the suspected car thief seems to believe he's some sort of track star.
For that effort, the guy earns a chomp in the leg by a K9 and a taser deployment before getting arrested.

1 shot, robbed in a North Carolina mall parking lot Friday night, police say

A person was shot and robbed in the parking lot of Carolina Place mall in Pineville on Friday night after an arranged meeting led to a fight, police said. The person was hospitalized in stable condition after being shot in the leg in the parking lot of the food court/Barnes & Noble area, according to a Pineville Police Department news release. A Pineville officer who was on an unrelated call at the mall heard a gunshot at 6:43 p.m. and immediately responded, police said. 'The officer provided life-saving measures by placing a tourniquet on the leg area, controlling the bleeding,' according to the police statement. The person's injury was non-life threatening, police said. The shooter ran away, and police didn't announce an arrest Saturday. The person was shot after meeting someone, Pineville Police Chief Michael Hudgins told Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC at the scene. 'It does appear that the crime was targeted based on the information I have at this time,' Hudgins said. Police said they interviewed witnesses and were reviewing security videos. This is a breaking story that will be updated.
