Saiyaara is a romance-drama that focuses on Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), a budding musician, and Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), a shy writer. Through their relationship, the film explores love, loss, and drama.

Dhadak 2 box office collection day 1: Siddhant Chaturvedi, Triptii Dimri film fails to impress fans? Earns Rs…

The much-talked-about Siddhant Chaturvedi–Triptii Dimri starrer opened in theatres this Friday, but the numbers weren't encouraging. According to Sacnilk, Dhadak 2 collected Rs 2.94 crore net on its first day in India — a modest start for a film carrying the weight of its predecessor's name. The figure couldn't match Siddhant's Yudhra opening of Rs 4.5 crore, nor did it come close to Triptii's blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which debuted at Rs 35.5 crore. With just 19.78% occupancy, the film's real test lies in whether the weekend can turn the tide. What's the story this time? A spiritual sequel to the 2018 Dhadak starring Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor, Dhadak 2 is based on the acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. It follows the journey of a law student who falls in love with his classmate, only to be targeted and harassed by her family over caste differences. Why is it being called a 'responsibility' by its lead? Speaking to PTI, Siddhant Chaturvedi shared, 'It is a huge responsibility… A lot of the credit goes to our director, who from day one was very clear about what she wanted and how she wanted to tell the story, as well as how the characters should be portrayed. She didn't want to over-dramatise anything or oversimplify it. She just wanted things to be as they are in reality.' Director Shazia Iqbal's approach has been to maintain authenticity without diluting the sensitive subject, steering away from cinematic exaggeration in favour of grounded storytelling. With underwhelming day-one numbers, all eyes are now on the weekend. If word-of-mouth works in its favour, Dhadak 2 may still find its footing — but the climb looks steep.

Honours for Tollywood Best Telugu film: Bhagavanth Kesari Best lyricist: Kasarla Shyam (Balagam's song 'Ooru Palleturu') Best screenplay: 'Baby' Best child artist: Sukriti Veni Bandreddi ('Gandhi Tatha Chettu') Best male playback singer: PVN S Rohit ('Baby') New Delhi: Hindi cinema dominated the 71st National Film Awards on Friday with superstar Shah Rukh Khan winning his career's first best actor award for "Jawan" alongside Vikrant Massey for "12th Fail", which was named the best feature film. The Awards, announced for the year 2023 by jury head and filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, recognised Bollywood star Rani Mukerji in the best actress category for "Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway". It is also her career's first National Film Award. "I'm overwhelmed to have won the National Award for my performance in 'Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway'... For me, this award is also a validation of my 30-year body of work, my dedication to my craft with which I feel a deeply spiritual connection and my passion for cinema and this beautiful film industry of ours," Mukerji, 47, said in a statement. Gowariker, who directed Shah Rukh in 2004's 'Swades', said the 59-year-old actor was recognised for 'delivering a powerhouse performance, balancing raw intensity and emotional depth and bringing to life a hero who fights not just enemy but societal boundaries, creating two unforgettable cinema personas'. 'Jawan', which minted over Rs 1,100 crore at the worldwide box office, was a high-octane thriller from south filmmaker Atlee and featured SRK in the dual role of Army officer Vikram Rathore and his jailor son Azad. The filmmaker said it was 'quite historic' that one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema got an award for best acting at the National Film Awards 'after such a long and prolific career'. Shah Rukh is counted amongst the top stars of Indian cinema ever since he made his debut in 1992 with Hindi film 'Deewana'. 'Yes, it is amazing... Him getting (the award) for 'Jawan' is something that is great because he's played a double role in that,' Gowariker told reporters after the announcement. The jury praised Massey's performance as one that portrayed the transformative journey of a village boy with 'raw honesty and emotional depth'. In a statement, Massey, 38, said it was a dream come true moment for him. 'I am eternally grateful to the audiences for honouring my performances and for recommending this film with such love. It is a privilege to be sharing my first National Award with an icon like Shah Rukh Khan,' he added. Filmmaker Karan Johar's 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Kahaani' was named the best popular film providing wholesome entertainment while Meghna Gulzar-directorial 'Sam Bahadur' was recognised as the best film promoting national, social and environmental values. 'I am ecstatic and overwhelmed to win the national award for a film exceptionally close to my heart 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'. I am grateful to the jury and continue to be humbled by the enormous love the film continues to receive,' Johar, 53, said in a statement. Vaibhavi Merchant won the best choreography award for 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' song 'Dhindhora Baaje'. Shilpa Rao was named best female playback singer for 'Jawan' track 'Chaleya'. A biopic on Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, 'Sam Bahadur' was also named in categories for make-up and costume. 'Immense honour and gratitude, there's serenity in me. I know how much my parents particularly my father was missing this (National award) for me. So, for me this is something that has been filled for him. For me that's what makes it so special and for it to happen on 'Sam Bahadur' is all the more special,' Meghna, daughter cinema veterans Gulzar and actor Rakhee, told PTI. Filmmaker Sudipto Sen won the best director award for his film 'The Kerala Story', which also bagged the honour for best cinematography. The film had courted controversy for its portrayal of women in Kerala being forcefully converted and recruited by terror group Islamic State. 'It's a difficult topic, and to convey that with this kind of clarity is something that we as a jury felt was the need to applaud,' Gowariker said when asked why 'The Kerala Story' was chosen for best direction. Sanya Malhotra-starrer 'Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery' was named the best Hindi film. While Hindi cinema ruled in the main categories, regional movies were recognised in categories such as best supporting actor as well as actress and in technical segments. Vijayaraghavan for Malayalam film 'Pookalam', Muthupettai Somu Bhaskar for Tamil film 'Parking' shared the best supporting actor trophy. The best supporting actress honour went to Urvashi for Malayalam movie 'Ullozhokku' and Janki Bodiwala for Gujarati title 'Vash'. Both movies won best films in their respective language segments. Ashish Bende's Marathi film bagged the award for the best debut film of a director. Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comic) went to Telugu film 'Hanu-Man', which also won the best action direction award. 'Animal', another Hindi blockbuster of 2023, won awards for best sound design, best music director (background music) and a special mention for re-recording mixer. The National Award for best screenplay was shared between Telugu movie 'Baby' and Tamil film 'Parking'. 'Baby' singer PVN S Rohit was recognised as the best male playback singer for the song 'Premisthunna'. The best music director for songs went to G V Prakash for Tamil movie 'Vaathi'. Kasarla Shyam was named best lyricist for Telugu movie 'Balagam' song 'Ooru Palleturu'. 'Son of Sardaar 2' Box Office collection day 1: Ajay Devgn-Mrunal Thakur's film mints Rs 6.75 crore; beats Triptii Dimri-Siddhant Chaturvedi's 'Dhadak 2' on opening day

Ajay Devgn 's much-awaited comedy-drama 'Son of Sardaar 2' finally hit cinemas on 1 August 2025 after facing several delays. A sequel to the 2012 hit 'Son of Sardaar', this instalment sees Devgn reprise his role as Jassi Randhawa in a new, love-fuelled adventure. Despite the star's strong fan following and a wide release across the country, the film had a modest start at the box office. Son Of Sardaar 2 Movie Review Modest start but fails to be 'Raid 2' According to early estimates by Sacnilk, 'Son of Sardaar 2' collected approximately Rs 6.75 crore on its first day. While the numbers aren't bad, they're not record-breaking either, especially when compared to Ajay Devgn's earlier 2025 release, 'Raid 2', which made a much stronger Rs 19.25 crore on its opening day. Occupancy on day 1 The occupancy rate for shows across India on the opening Friday was 22.56%, with night shows witnessing the highest turnout at 40.27%. Morning shows recorded just 10.24%, while the afternoon and evening shows managed 17.88% and 21.84%, respectively. 'Son of Sardaar 2' vs ' Dhadak 2 ' The film faced strong competition on its opening day from another big release—Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi 's 'Dhadak 2'. While the romantic drama collected Rs 3.35 crore on Day 1, Ajay Devgn's comedy came out on top with Rs 6.75 crore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo 'Son of Sardaar 2' cast In 'Son of Sardaar 2', Ajay Devgn is joined by Mrunal Thakur , who plays Rabia. This marks her first film with Ajay, and fans are already enjoying their on-screen chemistry. The film boasts a large ensemble cast that adds layers of humour and drama to the story. Ravi Kishan plays Raja, Neeru Bajwa appears as Dimple, Deepak Dobriyal takes on the role of Gul, Kubbra Sait features as Mehwish, and Chunky Panday portrays Danish. The supporting cast includes Sharat Saxena, Mukul Dev, Vindu Dara Singh, Roshni Walia , Sanjay Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar, Sahil Mehta, and Dolly Ahluwalia , who plays Jassi's mother. 'Son of Sardaar 2' movie review 'Son of Sardaar 2' received 3 stars from The Times of India. The review describes the film as a slapstick comedy with a thin plot, but filled with hilarious moments, especially in the first half, 'The slapstick comedy written by Jagdeep Singh Sidhu and Mohit Jain is a standalone sequel to 2012's Son of Sardaar. The storyline maybe thin, but Jassi juggling the dual act of being a war hero and Rabia's husband doubles the chaos. India-Pakistan rivalry jokes and one-liners will keep you in splits, along with Tony and Titu trying to expose Jassi. The first half has some entertaining moments; one of them being Raja, Tony, and Titu visiting the family to finalise the wedding, where Jassi recreates the scene from Border and plays all three parts originally portrayed by Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, and Jackie Shroff.' The review also points out that the second half becomes crowded with too many characters and comic tracks, 'However, as the story progresses, the plot becomes tangled and overstuffed with characters and comic tracks, though it does manages to deliver hilarity regularly. Some of the comedy misses the mark, like Jassi watching Raja's aged Russian stepmom pole dance. Routine song-and-dance sequences further drag on without advancing the plot. The climax is convoluted, predictable, and over‑dramatised.'
