Rickshaw driver robbed by police, killed by truck
The incident occurred in the Loni Kot area, where 30-year-old Kashif, son of Waris Abbasi and his cousin, Zohaib Ali, son of Nadeem Abbasi were pushing the rickshaw on foot after vehicle's petrol ran out when a truck hit them, killing driver Kashif on the spot, injuring his cousin Zohaib.
According to Zohaib's statement to the police, they were traveling from Karachi to Hyderabad when police personnel at the toll plaza snatched their cash amounting to Rs8,000 and a mobile phone. After being robbed, they continued their journey, but the rickshaw ran out of petrol near Loni Kot New Baran Bridge. As they were pushing the rickshaw, the accident occurred.
The victims hailed from Faisalabad and earned their living by driving rickshaws. They had nothing left after being robbed by the police.
Meanwhile, SSP Jamshoro Zafar Siddiq Jhanga took notice of the incident after Zohaib's video statement went viral on social media.

He said that every year on August 4, Sindh Police commemorates the sacrifices of its martyrs by meeting with their families and distributing gifts among their children. At the conclusion of the run, cash prizes ranging from Rs100,000 to Rs50,000 were distributed among participants. The event ended with enthusiastic tributes paid to the martyrs of Sindh Police.

Prices continue to soar in open market
A relentless wave of inflation continues to batter the twin cities, with bakery and sweet shops joining the trend by hiking prices. Essential vegetables and groceries are now being sold at exorbitant prices — live chicken at Rs415/kg, chicken meat at Rs650/kg, eggs Rs280/dozen, milk Rs220/litre, and mutton Rs2,500/kg. Fruits and vegetables, including coriander, which was once free with vegetables, now cost Rs80 per bundle. Markets have become hubs of substandard produce while price control officers and assistant commissioners appear helpless in enforcing the official price list. The Punjab government's crackdown on overpriced sugar has shown immediate results as sugar is now available at the official rate of Rs173/kg in Rawalpindi markets. Rate cards featuring Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's photo have been displayed at all shops. Following the crackdown, fines worth Rs318,000 were imposed within 24 hours. Two FIRs were registered, eight buildings sealed, and 10 people arrested. A total of 150 challans were issued, with 43 violators identified. Shopkeepers claim that the sugar is supplied to them at Rs165/kg ex-mill price, but only two sacks (100kg) per national ID card are available to tax filers. Traders demand easier access and removal of the tax-filer condition to meet market demand. The impact of rising fuel prices, transportation costs, and new heavy taxes has caused a sharp surge in prices of food, fruits, vegetables, pulses, meat, bakery items, and flour in open markets and wholesale bazaars.

Spate of robberies hits Khanewal
A series of robberies across different parts of Khanewal has left several residents deprived of their valuables, including mobile phones, cash and gold jewellery. According to sources, two armed robbers on a 125 motorbike broke into a house in the limits of Thana Chabb Kalan area, targeting the residence of a man named Rab Nawaz. The assailants looted 2.5 tolas of gold jewellery, Rs10,000 in cash, and a mobile phone before fleeing the scene. In another incident within the same police jurisdiction, three robbers intercepted a man named Akbar near Arain Chowk. They stole cash, a mobile phone, and a red water pump he was carrying for installation at home. A third robbery was reported from Chak 12 in the jurisdiction of Thana Sadar Chunnon, where two armed men held up a resident named Ehsaan at gunpoint, making off with Rs200,000 in cash and a mobile phone. In a separate case, a man named Imtiaz Hassan reported to Thana Talamba police that unidentified thieves broke into his house near Pul Gujarat, stealing gold jewellery, cash, and a mobile phone before escaping. Police in Khanewal have launched investigations and are pursuing the suspects involved in these incidents.
