Welcome back to Prime Tire, where we're just watching this video of Charles Leclerc's dog Leo entering the Miami Grand Prix paddock on repeat. More. Leo. Content!
It's the first American race of 2025. I'm Patrick, and Luke Smith will be along shortly from Miami. Let's get to it.
To celebrate the one-year anniversary of its partnership with HP, Ferrari is running this special livery in Miami this weekend. The people hate it. Here's how I feel:
There's a solution here. We wrote about it last year, when Ferrari debuted some blue for the Miami GP: Bring back the all-blue, Ferrari! You did it in Watkins Glen in 1964. You can avoid the Frankenblue monstrosities and just … go all-in.
ESPN's Ryan McGee made the case this week that the Miami Grand Prix has become 'America's Monaco.' The Monaco race is renowned for its glamorous celebrity scene, exclusive party atmosphere and unmistakable local personality — all qualities that also define the Miami GP weekend.
I found that argument compelling, and it's a sentiment many in the F1 paddock have shared in the last couple of years. So the news today should come as no surprise: F1 has extended its contract with the Miami GP until 2041. That makes it the first confirmed F1 race into the 2040s.

So, why ensure the Miami GP is around for at least 16 more years? Luke's analysis goes into this in more detail, but here are the basics you can infer: Good revenue, good viewership, good business-making environment, and the drivers love the place.
An F1 naturalist would look at this race and declare the habitat incredibly healthy, even if the racing isn't the most thrilling.
With more on how the Miami GP has grown, here's Luke.
I remember coming to Miami for the first time in 2022, how novel and exciting it all felt. That was pre-Las Vegas, and marked the next major step in F1's American expansion.
Now into its fourth year, there's not quite the same spark. But that's a good thing. In the nicest possible way, Miami now feels like just another race, established and mature.
The fact the F1 paddock is literally in the middle of the Hard Rock Stadium still fills me with a lot of joy. The grand prix has become one of the biggest events in a year filled with big moments for Miami's sporting scene, and it's wonderful to see how the Dolphins have embraced that, right down to the custom driver jerseys in the locker room that is host to the press conferences this weekend.
It's a slickly run event, meaning that when I say it's just another race, from an operational standpoint and as something to look forward to, it does rank highly. Fernando Alonso said yesterday he thought it was one of the best events on the calendar, and I'm inclined to agree. This is a race people relish going to rather than dread (which is the case for some other races.)
So no, there isn't the same unknown in Miami there once was. But that's only a good thing.
Thanks, Luke. As a reminder, we've got FP1 right now, followed by sprint qualifying at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari dream is becoming a painful reality as he falls significantly behind teammate Charles Leclerc in the opening races in 2025. Hamilton is already 16 points back, mired in seventh place. (If he had the same number of points as Leclerc, Ferrari would be in third instead of fourth.)

Luke broke down how dire Hamilton's situation has become and explores potential reasons behind his disappointing Ferrari debut.
😲 This stood out: Hamilton's struggles are worse than those experienced by Leclerc's previous teammates. But Leclerc's previous teammates all struggled to keep up early in the season:
It's another reminder that we tend to take so-called second drivers for granted when they team up with more popular or more successful drivers. Carlos Sainz with Leclerc. Sergio Pérez with Max Verstappen (for a bit). Lance Stroll with Fernando Alonso. George Russell with Lewis Hamilton.
Getting beat by Leclerc in the first five races is basically a Ferrari tradition at this point. For more on this dynamic, read on.
Verstappen missed media day yesterday for the birth of his first child, Lily. He made it to the paddock this morning, ready for practice.
Racing Bulls and Sauber also have special liveries this weekend. Sauber went with a splattered paint vibe (6/10 from me) and Racing Bulls went all pink. (10/10)
Cadillac F1 is teasing … something tomorrow at the Miami GP for its debut in 2026. Meanwhile, rumors continue to swirl around Sergio Pérez and the team …
F1 Academy's docuseries lands on Netflix in May!
The FIA President is considering improvements to the swearing rules.
And, finally, F1 extended its Mexico City Grand Prix deal through 2028.

Trump says he's not trying to 'destroy' Elon Musk's businesses by scaling back subsidies Tesla has thrived on

President Donald Trump is looking to set the record straight on his stance on Elon Musk's companies. "Everyone is stating that I will destroy Elon's companies by taking away some, if not all, of the large scale subsidies he receives from the U.S. Government," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. "This is not so! I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE, in fact, THRIVE like never before!" Trump said that the better Musk's companies and other American businesses perform, "the better the USA does, and that's good for all of us." Musk, who once described himself as "First Buddy" after spending heavily to help elect Trump, has seen his business empire affected by the president's economic policies. Tesla's stock previously sank 5% after Trump criticized the amount of government subsidies the automaker has received. A Washington Post analysis published in February said that Musk's companies had received at least $38 billion in federal contracts, subsidies, tax credits, and loans over the last two decades. Trump's signature "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" ends a $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles later this year. On Tesla's recent earnings call, its chief financial officer, Vaibhav Taneja, said Americans looking to buy an EV should do so now. After the tax credit expires, the overall price that Americans pay for many EVs is expected to rise. Trump's Truth Social post comes a day after the White House suggested xAI's government contracts could receive scrutiny. When asked if Trump supported federal agencies contracting with Musk's artificial intelligence firm, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded, "I don't think so, no." The Pentagon recently announced a contract with xAI worth up to $200 million. Musk's company also recently announced products aimed at governmental needs. Musk played a vital role in helping Trump take back the White House in 2024, spending upward of $250 million to boost Trump and establishing his own America PAC. Musk's political power grew when he was the de facto leader of the White House DOGE office before the two had a public falling out in June shortly after his official government work ended. Since then, Musk has floated starting a third party, named the America Party, which could complicate Trump's efforts to help Republicans maintain control of Congress.

NBC SPORTS FINALIZES GAME ANALYST TEAM AND ADDS FINAL PLAY-BY-PLAY VOICE FOR NBA COVERAGE BEGINNING THIS FALL

1986 No. 1 Pick Brad Daugherty, Five-Time NBA Champion Derek Fisher, and NBA Veterans Robbie Hummel, Austin Rivers, and Brian Scalabrine to Join NBC Sports' NBA Coverage as Game Analysts Michael Grady Joins as Play-by-Play Voice 2025-26 NBA Season Begins Oct. 21 on NBC and Peacock STAMFORD, Conn. – July 24, 2025 – NBC Sports finalized its NBA game analyst and play-by-play rosters today with the additions of analysts Brad Daugherty, Derek Fisher, Robbie Hummel, Austin Rivers, and Brian Scalabrine, and play-by-play voice Michael Grady. The 2025-26 NBA season begins on NBC and Peacock on Oct. 21. Daugherty, Fisher, Hummel, Rivers, and Scalabrine round out a game analyst roster for NBC Sports which also includes previously announced NBA veterans Jamal Crawford, Reggie Miller, and Grant Hill. Grady joins Mike Tirico, Noah Eagle, and Terry Gannon as NBC Sports' play-by-play voices for the NBA. This group will handle up to 100 regular season games -- including five games a week for portions of the season -- plus the playoffs. 'We're excited to introduce this group to NBA fans and can't wait for them to set up and break down games for viewers all season long,' said NBC Sports Executive Producer Sam Flood. 'This team would win a lot of games on the court and now they have the opportunity to take their talents to NBC and Peacock.' Brad Daugherty, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft, played nine seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he was a five-time NBA All-Star and had his No. 43 retired by the team. Daugherty had a storied college career at the University of North Carolina, playing two seasons alongside Michael Jordan and earning two first-team All-ACC selections and a second-team All-America selection. As a co-owner of Hyak Motorsports and stockcar enthusiast, Daugherty joined NBC Sports in 2020 as a NASCAR pre- and post-race analyst. A five-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers (2000-2002, 2009-2010), Derek Fisher played 18 seasons in the NBA and appeared in 287 playoff games, second only to LeBron James on the all-time list. The No. 24 overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft out of Little Rock, Fisher played in eight NBA Finals (seven with the Lakers, one with the Oklahoma City Thunder). After retiring in 2014, Fisher spent time as the head coach of the New York Knicks and the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. A two-time AP Honorable Mention All-American during an impressive career at Purdue (2007-2012), Robbie Hummel was selected in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft and played two seasons for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Since 2023, Hummel has been an analyst for NBC Sports' presentation of Big Ten men's basketball and served as a men's basketball analyst on NBCUniversal's Paris Olympic coverage. The No. 10 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Duke, Austin Rivers played 11 seasons in the NBA, making the playoffs eight times. He spent his career with seven teams (New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans, Los Angeles Clippers, Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves). Rivers' father is NBA champion-head coach Doc Rivers, who coached Austin for three-and-a-half seasons with the Clippers. Following his retirement in 2023, Rivers began his broadcasting career as a studio analyst for ESPN before joining NBC Sports in 2025 as a college basketball analyst. Rivers will occasionally work as an NBC Sports studio analyst as well. A second-round pick out of USC in the 2001 NBA Draft, Brian Scalabrine played 11 seasons in the NBA, primarily with the New Jersey Nets and Boston Celtics. During his career, he played in four NBA Finals, winning one in 2008 with the Celtics and becoming a city fan favorite. Since the 2020-21 NBA season, he has been NBC Sports Boston's primary game analyst for Celtics' games. He makes weekly appearances on the network's Celtics Insider show as well as other NBC Sports Boston programming throughout the year. Scalabrine will occasionally work as an NBC Sports studio analyst as well. Michael Grady has been the play-by-play voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves on Bally Sports North since the 2022-23 NBA season, which led him to ESPN's rotation of NBA play-by-play announcers at the start of the 2024-25 season. He has also called NBA games for TNT Sports. Grady began his career as the PA announcer at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the Indiana Pacers and Fever, and in 2017, began serving as a sideline reporter for the Brooklyn Nets on YES Network and started calling select games for the team in 2020. Grady will continue to call some games for the Timberwolves. The NBA returns to NBC and debuts on Peacock on Tuesday, Oct. 21, when the 2025-26 season tips off. Throughout the course of the season, NBC Sports will present up to 100 regular season NBA games -- including five games a week for portions of the season -- plus the playoffs. NBC and Peacock will present coverage on Tuesday nights beginning in October. After Sunday Night Football coverage concludes in 2026, NBC Sports will launch Sunday Night Basketball across NBC and Peacock. Peacock will also livestream national Monday night games starting Oct. 27. *** In July 2024, NBCUniversal and the NBA announced an 11-year agreement to present NBA and WNBA regular-season and playoff basketball games across numerous platforms beginning with the 2025-26 season. For more information on the agreement, click here. NBC Sports has already announced that Jamal Crawford, Reggie Miller, and Grant Hill will serve as game analysts; Carmelo Anthony and Vince Carter as studio analysts; Maria Taylor and Ahmed Fareed as studio hosts; and Mike Tirico, Noah Eagle, and Terry Gannon as play-by-play voices. Michael Jordan has been announced as a special contributor. Emmy Award-winning producer Frank DiGraci is NBC Sports' NBA coordinating producer. In a nod to its original era of NBA coverage from 1990-2002, NBC Sports is bringing back Roundball Rock, one of the most iconic and beloved theme songs in sports history, and will use an AI-generated voice of the late Jim Fagan, a longtime NBC Sports narrator whose voice was synonymous with its NBA coverage and promotion. Fantasy Basketball Roundup: Chris Paul returns to Clippers, Hornets win Summer League and more

In the latest fantasy basketball roundup, we highlight key storylines that may impact fantasy this season, including Chris Paul's return to the Clippers, the Hornets' success in the Summer League and standout players from Vegas who will now compete for rotational minutes during training camp. Chris Paul signs with the Clippers The past couple of weeks have been all about reunions. First, Damian Lillard returned to Portland and now, CP3 is back with the Clippers. Paul joined the Clippers on a one-year deal after hinting that this would be his final season. Paul has been one of the best fantasy players over his 20-year career, finishing in the top-10 in 9-cat 11 times and top-20 16 times, per Basketball Monster. He's never finished outside the top 100, so can he keep that streak alive with his minutes and usage declining? Advertisement From a fantasy perspective, I view Paul as a late-round option in deeper formats for those chasing assists and steals. He can produce numbers there, even in limited minutes. However, the drop-off in scoring and shot volume is no longer reliable. He's unlikely to crack standard league lineups unless the Clippers suffer an injury in the backcourt. Summer League standouts – first & second teams revealed The 11-day tournament concluded on July 20, with the Charlotte Hornets taking home the title of champion at the 2025 Las Vegas Summer League. Following that game, the NBA announced the 2025 All-Summer League teams, highlighting the young players who made the strongest impressions during July's action. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Among this group, a few players are in particularly favorable positions to crack their teams' regular-season rotations: Advertisement Nique Clifford - G, Sacramento Kings The 24th pick by the Sacramento Kings displayed a surprisingly versatile fantasy bag. He finished Vegas averaging 15.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.8 3s and 1.5 steals with 49/46/63 shooting splits across six games. The playmaking stood out most and that's where he can help the Kings from Day 1. Right now, he's penciled in as DeMar DeRozan's backup, but he's a player who should climb dynasty draft boards after a phenomenal showing in Summer League. Ron Holland II - F, Detroit Pistons Detroit deciding to bring in Duncan Robinson and Caris LeVert didn't help Holland's cause in terms of earning minutes right away. However, Holland showed significant growth in Vegas. The defense was legit, racking up four steals per contest while also dropping over 21 points with 6 rebounds across three games. He's another dynasty asset who improved his stock this summer. Advertisement Terrence Shannon Jr. - F, Minnesota Timberwolves A physical slasher who immediately looked "too good for Summer League" was deserving of MVP. In three games, Shannon averaged 23-6-5 with 48/39/95 shooting splits. With Nickeil Alexander-Walker gone and the Wolves in the first apron, Shannon should play meaningful minutes off the bench. He can be a force on both ends, so he's a player I'll be eyeing on waivers if an injury occurs to one of the Wolves' core players. Kon Knueppel - G/F, Charlotte Hornets Knueppel took home the MVP of the Summer League title game. He and KJ Simpson led the Hornets to their first Summer League championship in the franchise's history. Even though it's the Summer League, it's a welcome W for a squad that's historically been stuck in neutral. Advertisement Knueppel may be among the handful of rookies to start on opening night. That means something for fantasy, even though his fantasy profile initially looks to be a 3's guy with lowkey assists. He should be a top-five option in dynasty startups, though. Kyle Filipowski's tournament dominance Kyle Filipowski's breakout Summer League performance earned him MVP honors, and it's not hard to see why. The Jazz forward averaged 23.2 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 2.2 APG, and 1.0 BPG across six combined games. He played a ton of minutes and shot efficiently from the floor, knocking down 53% of his FG attempts. What makes Filipowski particularly intriguing is that he has gotten swole af in the offseason and resembles Lauri Markkanen. With John Collins departing, Filipowski's role will expand in the Jazz frontcourt. I'm not going to rule out Flip becoming a late-round option in fantasy in points or 9-cat formats this upcoming season. Advertisement Marcus Smart goes to the Lakers The Wizards bought out Marcus Smart and now he'll head to L.A. to give the Lakers a tenacious perimeter defender and seasoned playmaker. He figures to fill a sixth-man role, contributing defensive energy, hustle plays and secondary ball-handling behind Luka Doncić and Austin Reaves. But between his injuries and the Lakers' crowded backcourt, Smart's fantasy ceiling is too low to get excited about this season. Young fantasy futures on hold Josh Giddey, Cam Thomas and Jonathan Kuminga are restricted free agents. They're at a stalemate with their respective franchises, which appear unwilling to budge on giving the trio an extension. Giddey and Thomas put up the best numbers of their careers last year, so they're not wrong in their position. Kuminga's situation is unclear since his role has fluctuated significantly since entering the league. Advertisement Should they bet on themselves — sign their qualifying offers and test free agency in the summer of 2026? Thanks to the new CBA, many franchises' budgets have dried up, so few teams can actually sign them at the rate they want. So, the trio should either play the year out in the hopes of signing a bigger deal next summer or help facilitate a trade.
