Actor Will Smith has described the work he has done on himself since slapping comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars as "brutal but beautiful", or "brutiful".
The film star and musician said the moment, televised around the world at the 2022 awards, made him take "a big, strong, honest look at myself".
Appearing on 1Xtra, Smith told host Remi Burgz: "After the Oscars I, like, shut it down for a minute and really went into the internal work...
"All of a sudden, it was like there was a manhole cover over some unexplored areas, and like the manhole cover came off, and it was scary for a minute.
"Then all of a sudden all of these new thoughts, new energies and new creativity came through.
"So, I feel like I'm brand new.

"I feel like the greatest creative period of my life will be in the next, you know, five to 10 years."
Smith, who has starred in blockbusters such as the Men In Black and Bad Boys franchises, stormed the stage at the 94th Academy Awards and hit Rock after he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's hair loss.
Smith won the Oscar for best actor for his leading role in King Richard the same night.
Asked what it was like to make such a mistake in front of the world, Smith said: "For the first time in my career, having to deal with a level of disapproval that I'd never had to experience.
"It's brutiful – it's brutal but beautiful.
"The addiction to the approval of others that I had to dissolve, brutiful."

The Academy Awards called Smith's behaviour "unacceptable and harmful", and banned him from the ceremony for a period of 10 years.
Smith released his first record in two decades earlier this year.
The album, Based On A True Story, also references the Oscars incident.

Other notable performers include the Brat star Charli xcx, the rising rapper Doechii and the controversial Irish rap trio Kneecap – despite many calls from politicians, including the prime minister, Keir Starmer, for them to be removed from the bill. The music festival usually has capacity for 210,000 people. Eavis, 45, outlined the changes that have been made to this year's festival and said music area Shangri-La is "going full trees and green space" which is "completely the opposite to anything they've done in the past". She also revealed that the festival has managed to buy some land that sits "just on the outside of the site", which will be used for crew members. She added: "We've also sold a few thousand less tickets, so it will be interesting just to see how that affects the dynamics on site." Eavis said times have changed, adding: "There were years where you just couldn't sell out, you just couldn't give them (the tickets) away." Glastonbury is running from June 25 to June 29 this year. The line-up features a number of acts listed as TBA, as well as a mysterious act called Patchwork, who will take to the Pyramid Stage on Saturday. Careful not to draw speculation as to who the act could be, Eavis said: "I've been working on Patchwork for a long time." The 28-year-old singer has appeared on the Pyramid Stage, for a surprise set this evening, two years after an emotional performance at Glastonbury when festival-goers lent their vocal support as he struggled to finish his set. He took a touring break in 2023 to deal with the impact of his Tourette's diagnosis and the symptoms that were exasperated the gruelling schedule associated with his meteoric rise to global fame. Earlier today, Lewis Capaldi released new single 'Survive' - a bold new anthem that underscores a challenging period in his career that led to a tough unifying moment as the Pyramid Stage crowd helped carry an emotional Capaldi over the finish line.
