Backstage: Lana Lubany at Nawafiz Festival
Ahead of her debut show at this year's Nawafiz Festival in Utrecht, Palestinian-American star Lana Lubany shared with us her feelings about singing in Arabic and finding belonging through live music.

Lana Lubany is a UK-based Palestinian-American singer-songwriter who first catapulted to pop stardom back in 2023 with her single 'The Snake', an English/Arabic hybrid song that clocked nearly seven million Spotify streams and propelled her to the forefront of the region's avant-pop scene.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Rosalia and Billie Eilish, Lana's bona fide style is as bold as it is vulnerable, blending contemplative bilingual lyrics with traditional Middle Eastern melodies and a modern self-directed electronic production. As a third-culture kid, or as she puts it, 'an in-betweener', Lana's music mirrors her identity - restlessly navigating the spaces between cultures, languages and the feeling of belonging.
Ahead of her debut performance in the Netherlands, at this year's Nawafiz Festival in Utrecht, we caught up with Lana backstage. She shared what performing live means to hear as a third-culture artist, how it helps her realise her music into existence, and why singing in Arabic remains her rawest, most exposed form of expression.

Egypt's PM: June 30 Revolution a Defining Moment in Nation's History
H-Tayea Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly marked the anniversary of the June 30 Revolution with a message of national pride and reflection, calling the historic uprising 'the beginning of Egypt's course correction.' Speaking during a press conference at the opening of the new Bosch home appliance factory in the 10th of Ramadan City, Madbouly extended his congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the Egyptian people, emphasizing the day's importance. 'This is a deeply cherished occasion for all of us. June 30 marked the beginning of a new path for the Egyptian state,' the Prime Minister said. He also praised the launch of the new industrial project, calling it a 'world-class landmark' for Egypt, and highlighting the government's commitment to economic development and foreign investment. Backstage: Stormy at Nawafiz Festival
We caught up with Moroccan rap sensation Stormy ahead of his performance at Utrecht's Nawafiz Festival, where we discussed his pre-performance rituals and creative process. Jun 28, 2025 Moroccan rap sensation Stormy has been unstoppable since his debut album 'ICEBERG' in 2024. His unflinching honesty, sharp flows in Darija and French, and affinity for meaningful worldplay established him as one of the most exciting talents in the region's hip-hop scene and earned him a dedicated following across Europe as well. Before his breakthrough in the scene, the Rabat-born wordsmith used to release freestyles on YouTube, where he would anxiously await feedbacks from listeners to improve his lyrical delivery. Now, as he took centre stage at this year's Nawafiz Festival in Utrecht with confidence and swagger for his Netherlands debut - further expanding his global footprint - Stormy remains as humble as he first started. For him, live performances are another means through which he tries to workshop his sound, by paying close attention to the crowd and which flows or verses of his songs they react to the most. Backstage, he was still as welcoming, warm and humble as he vulnerably shared with us his experience visiting the Netherlands for the first time, his pre-performance rituals, and creative process. Despite his chart-topping hits and almost a million monthly streams on Spotify, Stormy's intention is never about making hits, but rather creating something that accurately reflects his skills and persona, and most importantly, satisfies his thirst for creativity.
