Tarvet 0-3 Alcaraz*
Alcaraz comes to the net with effect at the start of his next service game to take the lead before crushing a 115mph forehand into the corner to make it 30-0.
He follows up with an ace, that checks off the line and he nearly hits Tarvet in the head, and this looks more like it from the Spaniard.
He does send a ground-stroke long on the next point, though, before failing to get an awkward volley over the net, and suddenly the pressure is back on the world No 2 at 40-30.
And the pressure brings a double-fault... back to deuce on the Spaniard's serve.
Tarvet catches the top of the net with a backhand, though, and lets out a cry of frustration. Advantage Alcaraz.
The Briton looks to be dominating the next point with some superb ground-strokes, but he catches the net with another backhand and Alcaraz manages to hold once more.

Tarvet* 0-2 Alcaraz
Alcaraz can only send his first return of serve long but produces a superb cross-court forehand to level this next game at 15-15.
Tarvet does well to reach another Alcaraz drop shot but pushes his get just inches long of the baseline.
The Briton's next serve checks off the line, leaving Alcaraz off balance, meaning he sets up Tarvet for the winner but the next exchange ends with the amateur finding the net so Alcaraz has the early break.

Tarvet 0-1 Alcaraz* (*denotes server)
It's Alcaraz to serve first and he starts strongly, with a body serve returned long by the Briton.
The second point involves a lengthier exchange and it finishes with Alcaraz sending a forehand long from the baseline. Tarvet's first point of the match and it is met with huge cheers from Centre Court.
Tarvet sends another return of serve long but gets into the next rally and makes it 30-30, with Alcaraz finding the net with a backhand.
Alcaraz sends another forehand long and Tarvet has a break point! His mother in the crowd attempts to hide a smile.
The Spaniard whips a forehand into the corner, though, taking this first game to deuce and preventing an enormous cheer from the home fans.
He pushes another forehand long, though, and once more the Briton has a break point. But a ground-stroke goes inches long and we are back at deuce.
But would you believe it? A backhand passing shot from Alcaraz goes wide and he presents another break opportunity. But he saves it once more, with another fierce forehand winner.
A delightful drop-shot sees Alcaraz go to the brink of this first game and he seals it with a superb volley at the net. What a start to this match!

We are just moments away from getting underway on Centre Court. Will Tarvet make his mark?

'Play the ball, not the player' - Tarvet on second round approach
Speaking ahead of this afternoon's match, Tarvet told BBC Sport: 'I don't really like the word 'experience' because I feel like then you're just there to almost just spectate; you don't really have the expectation to win.
'And, obviously, I'm not saying that I expect to win. But at the same time I feel like I've been quietly confident this whole tournament and it's got me to where I am.
'A big thing for me is just playing the ball, not the player.'

Players out on Centre Court
After being frantically told by a tournament official to 'wait, wait wait', Oliver Tarvet eventually leads Carlos Alcaraz out onto Centre Court for what must be a surreal experience.
A reminder the Briton came through qualifying, is ranked 733rd in the world and is making his debut at a major tournament.
Tarvet wins the toss and opts to receive first.

Tarvet misses out on prize money
By Tim Wigmore, Firona Parker and Tom McArdle
Oliver Tarvet's amateur status combined with American college rules – the Briton is still a student at University of San Diego – means he can only receive a sliver of his guaranteed prize money.
Any singles player reaching the second round at the All England Club is guaranteed £99,000 in prize money, with £153,000 up for grabs if he were to achieve the unthinkable and eclipse defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the second round on Wednesday.
Yet Tarvet, who is studying for a communications major, will only be able to claim $10,000 (£7,290) in profit by the end of this year because of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's rules for student athletes.

Top seeds dropping out
Despite his lacklustre performance on Monday, Alcaraz's chances of a third successive Wimbledon title appear to have improved, with four of the top 10 seeds losing in the opening round.
Three of those casualties came on Alcaraz's side of the draw, with Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev and Holger Rune all suffering first-round upsets.
3:26PM
'I need to improve' - Alcaraz on first-round performance
Carlos Alcaraz took more than five hours to progress past 38-year-old Fabio Fognini in five sets in the opening round on Monday.
Speaking afterwards, the Spaniard said: 'I tried my best but I can be better. I need to improve in the next round.
'Playing in such a high heat is really difficult to deal with and it is even tougher when you're playing long matches, long rallies.
'Part of the match you can feel down a little bit because of the sun hitting all the time. I have to be ready to battle.'

Sport stars pay tribute to late Doddie Weir in birthday video

The video has been created to honour the memory of Weir, and the legacy of the foundation he set up to find effective treatments for motor neurone disease (MND) after he was diagnosed with it in 2016. Weir founded the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation in 2017, and died in November 2022 aged 52. Those in the video include Olympic swimming medallist Duncan Scott, Olympic curling medallist Eve Muirhead, broadcaster and ex-footballer Ally McCoist, former England rugby player Mike Tindall and British and Irish Lions fly-half Fin Smith. Supporters from across the UK will wear Doddie tartan to work on Friday July 4, as part of a tradition marking what would have been the former rugby player's birthday. Kenny Logan, who played alongside Doddie as part of the 1999 Five Nations-winning Scotland side, said: 'Doddie was a leader in life, and he remains a leader in death. 'His memory inspires thousands of people, both inside and outside of the MND community, to take action and help bring an end to this devastating disease. 'We all know Doddie should still be here with us. He brought light and laughter into every room, even in the darkest days. It's up to all of us to dig deep, keep fundraising and finish what he started. 'We do it because we miss him. We do it because we love him. And we do it because nobody else should have to go through what he and his family did.' The My Name'5 Doddie Foundation has now committed almost £20 million to targeted research projects and launched a Catalysing A Cure strategy to speed up the search for effective treatments. Earlier this year it pledged £4 million to the MND Discovery Network, a new UK-wide initiative connecting leading scientists to accelerate progress. The film also features Jennie Starkey, who is living with MND and is part of the Foundation's Discovery Network board. The video comes after the end of the Doddie's Lions Challenge, in which a team led by Logan and including Ally McCoist, Gabby Logan, and Doddie's widow Kathy, cycled 555 miles around the island of Ireland in five days to deliver the match ball for the British and Irish Lions vs Argentina fixture in Dublin. The ride has so far raised almost £650,000 for MND research. My Name'5 Doddie Foundation chief executive Nicola Roseman, said: 'Doddie's spirit continues to galvanise the MND community. 'The outpouring of support and emotion on what would have been his 55th birthday shows just how many lives he touched and how much his story still matters. It also reminds us that there is still work to be done. 'Every birthday that passes without Doddie is another reminder of the urgency of our mission.' Pedro Neto may miss Chelsea's Club World Cup quarter-final after friend Jota's death

Enzo Maresca said that he will let Pedro Neto decide if he is ready to face Palmeiras after Chelsea excused the winger from training following the death of his friend and international teammate Diogo Jota. Neto played with Jota at Wolverhampton Wanderers and won the Uefa Nations League alongside the Liverpool and Portugal forward last month. The mood was sombre at Chelsea's training camp as they prepared to face Palmeiras in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup on Friday. Neto was given permission to miss the session and Maresca was unsure if Neto will be in the right frame of mind to play. 'It's a very sad day,' Maresca said. 'I struggle to find words, it is very difficult. You feel a little bit helpless in this situation. I can only say all my love to [Jota's] family. It's a big tragedy for them. In terms of Pedro, he is very sad. Probably more than sad. We are close to Pedro to support him. 'Because I didn't see him in training earlier. It's completely Pedro's decision [to play]. I had a chat this morning with Pedro. We support him. Any decision he will take is the correct one.' Marc Cucurella backed Neto, who has scored three goals during the tournament, to rise to the occasion if he plays. 'The manager and he must decide but it's important that Pedro feels good,' the Chelsea left-back said. 'Football is secondary but it's a long day tomorrow and whatever they decide will be good. But right now he's a player in form and I think Pedro can help us in this game.' Chelsea have rallied around Neto. 'In the morning he was sad and it was not his best moment,' Cucurella said. 'But we tried to stay together and in the afternoon he was a bit better and I told him that if he's going to play then he will score because that is destiny. Hopefully we can show his love and all the good friends that we are and dedicate the goal to him.' Chelsea also have selection problems in midfield. Moises Caicedo is serving a one-match ban and Maresca revealed that Romeo Lavia, who has not been seen in training this week, is in doubt with a muscle problem. 'We are not sure he can be fit,' Maresca said. 'We will try tomorrow. He had small problems at the end of the last game against Benfica. It is just muscular problems and tomorrow we will see if he is fit. Moi is suspended also so we need to find solutions.' Chelsea have agreed a fee of £48.5m plus add-ons for the Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens and have added Joao Pedro to their squad after signing the forward from Brighton in a deal worth up to £60m. It remains to be seen if Joao Pedro is ready to feature against Palmeiras. 'Joao Pedro's situation is a bit strange as he was on holiday,' Maresca said. 'Even if he was working it is not the same when you work alone rather than with the team. We are very happy with Joao in the two days he worked with us. We will see if we need him tomorrow.' Sign up to Football Daily Kick off your evenings with the Guardian's take on the world of football after newsletter promotion The other key subplot to the tie is Willian Estêvão, the 18-year-old Palmeiras winger, taking on his future employers. The Brazil international has been the subject of huge attention given that he joins Chelsea after the Club World Cup. 'Everyone knew this could happen during the negotiations,' Abel Ferreira, the Palmeiras manager, said. 'Everyone knew he could play. So he will do what he does. I don't have to say anything. He has to do his job. He won't play alone. Nobody plays alone in my team. He will do what he always does. As long as he is playing with us, he has this commitment with us and once he finishes his commitments with Palmeiras, he is free to start with his new club. 'He knows what he needs to do for tomorrow. I hope he gives his best for the owners of Chelsea. It will be an important opportunity for him to show how good he is. We can expect his best. Maybe to score a goal to give a goodbye for our fans, because we helped him. We helped him to grow as a man, as a professional, so it can be a good moment for him to give a goodbye with one amazing game.' Ferreira, who is without Gustavo Gomez and Murilo in defence, jokingly called on Philadelphians to tap into their patriotism by coming to the game to support his team on the Fourth of July. 'We are the underdogs,' the Portuguese said. 'It can be an opportunity for local people to join with us against the English. It can be a good moment. Tomorrow it will be Independence Day, against the English. Join us! Come with us! We need your support.'
