Mashaer Metro serves 1.87 million passengers during Hajj
MAKKAH — The Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) transported approximately 1.87 million passengers, including pilgrims and Hajj officials, with operating 2,154 trips during the Hajj 2025. The SAR operated Mashaer Metro Train between the stations of Mina, Muzdalifah, and Arafat during the period from Dhul Hijjah 7 until the end of the Days of Tashreeq (Dhul Hijjah 13).
The operational plan for the Mashaer Metro Train during the Hajj season included five main phases. The first phase, from Dhu Al-Hijjah 7 to 8, transported over 27,000 passengers across all stations. The second phase carried 282,000 pilgrims from Mina to Arafat, followed by the third phase, which transported 294,000 pilgrims from Arafat to Muzdalifah.
In the fourth phase, more than 349,000 pilgrims were transported from Muzdalifah to Mina. The final phase, which lasted until sunset on the last day of Tashreeq, recorded the movement of over 920,000 passengers to and from Mina 3 (Jamarat) station.
CEO of SAR Dr. Bashar Al-Malik expressed appreciation for the support and empowerment of the Saudi leadership, which contributed to the integration of efforts and services offered to pilgrims, including transportation through the Mashaer Metro Train. He noted that the successful completion of the operational plan reflects the efforts of SAR employees and the effective coordination with operational and security agencies, supported by extensive preparatory work, including simulation exercises and full-scale trial runs, ensuring the highest levels of readiness and safety.

Beyond operations, SAR continues to deliver long-term economic and environmental impact. Its local content initiative, part of the 'Asasat' program, is on track to surpass 60% by the end of the year, supporting national industries and creating quality job opportunities for Saudi talent. Al-Malik also emphasized SAR's vital role in advancing the Saudi Green Initiative by reducing emissions, lowering reliance on conventional trucking, and offering cleaner alternatives that enhance quality of life in cities across the Kingdom.

Saudi Pavilion draws 64,000 visitors to ‘Wonders of Arabia' showcase at Expo 2025 Osaka
Saudi Gazette report OSAKA — The Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, in collaboration with the Saudi Tourism Authority, hosted the Wonders of Arabia Exhibition, welcoming more than 64,500 visitors during the seven-day event. Curated by the Saudi Tourism Authority, the exhibition offered a vibrant snapshot of the Kingdom's tourism experiences, aimed at Japanese and global travelers. Held at the Expo Exhibition Center, the Welcome Zone greeted guests with authentic Saudi hospitality, including 70,735 cups of Taif Rose Lemonade—crafted from 800 kilograms of fresh lemons—served to visitors. The event also featured live performances by Saudi artists and musicians from the Heritage and Music Commissions, along with a fashion showcase highlighting 10 prominent Saudi designers in partnership with the Fashion Commission. In the Main Exhibition area, guests enjoyed 29 cultural dance shows, 21 artisan sets, and 44 live oud performances, alongside highlights of Saudi Arabia's key tourism destinations such as Diriyah, Jeddah, the Red Sea, Aseer, and AlUla. Additional attractions included a cultural photobooth, giveaways, and the Arts of Arabia experience. Saudi Arabia recorded a 7% increase in Japanese visitors in 2024 and operates a dedicated tourism office in Japan. Japanese citizens are eligible for the Kingdom's eVisa program, which offers one-year multiple-entry access for stays up to 90 days. Wonders of Arabia is one of 700 events featured at the Saudi Pavilion, which has welcomed over 1 million visitors since the Expo's opening in April. The pavilion will continue to host live cultural performances and exhibitions until the Expo concludes on October 13.

Air Arabia-led consortium to launch new Saudi budget airline from Dammam
Saudi Gazette report DAMMAM — Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has announced that a consortium led by UAE-based Air Arabia has won the bid to launch and operate a new low-cost national airline based in the Kingdom. The new carrier will operate both domestic and international routes out of King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, as part of the Kingdom's aviation sector development plans under the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. According to GACA's statement on Sunday, the winning consortium includes Air Arabia, Kun Investment Holding, and Nesma Group. By 2030, the new budget airline is expected to serve 81 destinations — 24 domestic and 57 international — while transporting approximately 10 million passengers annually. The airline also aims to operate a fleet of 45 aircraft and create more than 2,400 direct jobs. GACA said the move is designed to enhance air connectivity in the Eastern Province, increase seat capacity, and offer more competitive options for travelers. It aligns with Saudi Arabia's ambition to make its civil aviation sector the leading one in the Middle East by 2030.
