Transition year students from Glenart College in Arklow were beaming with pride when they presented €1,000 raised at their Easter Fair to Arklow Cancer Support volunteers.
Featuring a variety of stalls with baked goods, plank and wall-sit challenges, and bunny rabbit petting, the joyous event saw students showcase their creativity, hard work, individual talents, and sales skills. Neighbouring primary schools were also invited to attend the event and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Describing the students pride at donating to Arklow Cancer Support, a Glenart spokesperson said: 'A big thanks to the teachers, Ms D Comerford, Ms C Fleming, Ms L Gibbons and Ms O Keane, for organising the event and an extended thanks to all members of staff in the school and the community who supported the event for a very worthy cause.
'Also, thanks to our sponsors Joanne's Cafe, Dolco Engineering, Enhanced Beauty, Coffe4You, Topline Bolands, Armstrong Life Pharmacy and JR Creations.'

Becoming Leonard Cohen: How this Wicklow man ended up leading his tribute band

He was a photographer who took Leonard Cohen's photo. He never dreamed one day he'd sing his songs on stage in front of 1,000s of Leonard Cohen fans Wicklow People Today at 02:00 I was looking forward to interviewing Rob Doyle over afternoon tea and oranges (that come all the way from China) but things did not work out that way… The Wicklow townie now spends much of his time in Spain rather than Ireland, living a handy drive from the airport in Alicante. There he plots the progress of Cohen Unlimited, the tribute band which has become an unexpected hit with followers of the Canadian singer-songwriter who died back in 2016. Pubs and holiday resorts are dripping these days with tribute bands re-creating the work of Cher, or Rod Stewart, or Elton John, or other luminaries of the pop world. Related topics David Medcalf

Former boxer opens exhibit of paintings in Wicklow

Wicklow People Today at 03:00 Artist Joe Farrell, who started painting back in 1978 after giving up amateur boxing, has launched his latest exhibition at the Courthouse Art Centre, Tinahely, which remains open to the public until Saturday, July 5. His These Memories Can't Wait exhibition opened in the Courthouse Arts Centre on Sunday, June 15. Speaking about the inspiration behind the works, he said: 'I have always been interested in the potential for paint and lens to observe, describe and understand the world in different ways. My paintings address the fragile, fugitive qualities of memory by recapturing and distilling my experiences in more than twenty countries over almost five decades. 'The paintings rely solely on memories of people, places and events. The images are built up from multiple layers or frames of memory. As each frame is attenuated by time and distance, the paintings become enigmatic and abstract. Shifting timescales, viewpoints and perspectives coalesce until a precise image emerges from colour, gesture, surface and line.' A painter, photographer and documentary director, Joe's works feature in the Irish State art collection, as well as in private and institutional collections in Ireland, Canada and UK. He has also directed broadcast documentaries and factual programmes in more than 20 countries including Ethiopia, DR Congo, Kenya, South Africa, Korea and Jamaica.
