A combination of composure and superb throwing saw Cool Hand and Bully Boy beat their Austrian opponents 10-6 in an epic final.
And it was a result that wrote England's name in the history books as they now hold the record for the most amount of wins in the iconic competition with five.
Sadly for Smith, his world ranking positioning means he will miss out on the chance to retain back-to-back titles.
However, he has a more than capable replacement of 2024 Premier League winner and teen millionaire, Luke Littler.
Welsh stars Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price will pose a huge threat to England's title, and Gary Anderson and Peter Wright should also fancy themselves.
But as for the Netherlands, they have suffered a massive blow to their chances with Michael van Gerwen pulling out of all upcoming tournaments due to his split with wife Daphne.
When is the World Cup of Darts 2025?
The World Cup of Darts 2025 will get underway on Thursday, June 12.
It will run over four days, concluding on Sunday, June 15.
Eissporthalle am Ratsweg in Frankfurt, Germany is the chosen venue for this iconic tournament.
Group stage matches begin at 6pm BST and then the latter stage fixtures are split in afternoon sessions (11am/12pm) and evening sessions (6pm).
The quarter-finals, semi-final and final will ALL be held on Sunday, June 15.

What is the World Cup of Darts 2025 format?
There will be 40 different nations taking part at this year's World Cup of Darts.
The top four seeded nations go straight into the second round, while the remaining 36 nations are split into 12 groups of three.
Each group winner will progress through to the second round, and then the tournament will be knockout from then on.
And each group stage game sees teams compete in a best-of-seven legs match, before the second round, quarter-finals and semi-finals are all best of 15 legs.
The World Cup final will then be best of 19 legs.
All matches are played in the doubles format, with teammates taking turns at the oche.

But their second game of the weekend between Championship winners Falkirk and Dundee United didn't quite go to plan. So much so, that mid-way through the first half, Sky were forced to issue an on-air apology to punters watching at home. While pre-match analysis and build-up went without a hitch, a major issue cropped up once the game commenced. That's because commentators Gary Weaver and James McFadden were way out of sync with the pictures. Early on in the match, the sound appeared to briefly cut out and once it came back, it was very obviously not in sync with what was going on. A sizeable delay appeared to be in play, with the commentators' description of what was happening not following until several seconds after the pictures had shown what they were describing. Around the 25th minute of the match, a graphic appeared in the bottom right of the screen simply saying: "Apologies for sound issues." The graphic remained on screen for around 10 minutes. In the 35th minute of the game, the sound appeared to briefly dip out for a second or two and after that, the commentary was back in sync with the action. Billy Dodds on returning to Rangers under Barry Ferguson, defeating Mourinho & ending Celtic Park hoodoo Presenter Eilidh Barbour also acknowledged the issues when she picked up in the studio during the half time break. Addressing the audience, she said: "Apologies for the sound issues during that first half, hopefully you still enjoyed that first 45." The issue didn't go down too well with punters watching on at home. One said: "Match commentary well behind the TV pictures." A second fan said: "Please fix the audio for the Falkirk/Dundee United game, it's about 30 seconds behind the actual game." Another posted: "Thought it was just me. Even switched my TV on and off." While the issue appeared to have been resolved before the half time whistle, it returned as the second half kicked-off with the commentary once again obviously well behind the pictures. Lewis Hamilton's hopes of a successful season with Ferrari have likely already been dashed, with the former Mercedes man struggling to make an impact in his first year with the Scuderia Bernie Ecclestone has launched a scathing attack on Lewis Hamilton, dismissing the seven-time world champion's prospects of securing another title. The Formula One supremo and former chief executive also suggested it might be time for the 40-year-old to call time on his career. Hamilton's woes at Ferrari persisted during Saturday's qualifying session in Hungary, where he could only manage 12th place on the grid for Sunday's Grand Prix. The Brit currently sits sixth in the championship standings, with any realistic hopes of mounting a title challenge in 2025 already extinguished. The ex-Mercedes driver had been expected to experience a revival at the Italian outfit following his surprising switch from the Silver Arrows at the conclusion of last season. When quizzed by Sky Sports about rumours linking him and axed Red Bull team boss Christian Horner to a potential takeover at Alpine, Ecclestone delivered a withering response: "More chance of Lewis winning his eighth title than that happening." Pressed to expand on his comments, he continued: "I think Lewis has done a fantastic job. He's still super talented. But I think maybe he ought to move over a little bit. Hamilton was visibly emotional after Saturday's qualifying, where he had failed to make the top 10. Following a disappointing Q2 exit, the Brit is set to start Sunday's race 12th on the grid. The racing icon was in a despondent mood when speaking to Sky Sports after qualifying and when asked what went wrong, he said: "It's just me, every time. I'm useless, absolutely useless. "The team has no problem – the other car is on pole. They probably need to change driver." The mood between Hamilton and Charles Leclerc couldn't be more opposite, given that the latter secured his first pole position of the season. Speaking after claiming pole, a smiling Leclerc said: "I don't understand anything in Formula 1. The whole qualifying was extremely difficult Q3, everything became a lot trickier, I just knew it had to be a clean lap. "I definitely did not expect that. The seven-time Formula 1 champion was extremely self-critical after a poor showing in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Hamilton often wears his heart on his sleeve and, amid his qualifying struggles over the last couple of years, has often shouldered the blame. But he produced one of his most difficult-to-watch interviews to date in the Budapest media pen when he told Sky Sports that Ferrari"probably need to change driver". The 40-year-old found it particularly tough to see team-mate Charles Leclerc put the other Ferrari on pole, while he could only find enough speed for 12th on the grid for the Budapest race. "The team has no problem, the other car is on pole," he muttered. Getting Hamilton's head back into a good place is a vital job for team principal Vasseur. And he began that process when speaking to Italian television, telling the sister channel to Sky Sports that it is natural for someone to struggle coming into Ferrari having spent so long with Mercedes machinery. "He spent 20 years in the same environment," said the Frenchman. "It is a huge change. The car cannot cope with his driving style yet. But I want both cars fighting for podiums." Most of the speculation surrounding Ferrari of late has not been around Hamilton's future, but that of his boss. Some sections of the Italian press in particular have spent recent weeks reporting that Vasseur's place was at risk and that the team were lining up potential replacements. But Ferrari put an end to those rumours this week by handing the Frenchman a new multi-year contract extension.
