Pakistan's TOMCL enters into Tajikistan with $3.24mn export deal

The Organic Meat Company Limited (TOMCL), a Pakistani meat processor, announced on Monday that it has secured confirmed export orders valued at $3.24 million to be executed over the current financial year. The listed company shared the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday. TOMCL further said that it had commenced production and exports of frozen boneless beef tailored to meet Tajikistan's specific import requirements and regulatory standards. 'TOMCL is pleased to announce its successful entry into a new international market within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region – Tajikistan,' the notice read. The company added that the strategic breakthrough marks its continued expansion into high-potential emerging markets and 'its strengthening position as a leading halal meat exporter from Pakistan'. TOMCL becomes first Pakistani-listed firm to export beef casings to Europe Incorporated in Pakistan as a private limited company in 2010, TOMCL is engaged in the processing and sale of halal meat and allied products. It is also one of the leading exporters of red meat and meat by-products. Middle Eastern countries are TOMCL's major export market. China and Russia start joint drills in Sea of Japan

Flags of China and Russia are displayed in this illustration picture taken March 24, 2022. PHOTO: REUTERS Listen to article China and Russia began joint naval drills in the Sea of Japan on Sunday as they seek to reinforce their partnership and counterbalance what they see as a US-led global order. Alongside economic and political ties, Moscow and Beijing have strengthened their military cooperation in recent years, and their relations have deepened since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The "Joint Sea-2025" exercises kicked off in waters near the Russian port of Vladivostok and would last for three days, China's defence ministry said in a statement on Sunday. The two sides will hold "submarine rescue, joint anti-submarine, air defence and anti-missile operations, and maritime combat". Four Chinese vessels, including guided-missile destroyers Shaoxing and Urumqi, are participating in the exercises alongside Russian ships, the ministry said. After the drills, the two countries will conduct naval patrols in "relevant waters of the Pacific". China and Russia have carried out annual drills for several years, with the "Joint Sea" exercises beginning in 2012. Last year's drills were held along China's southern coast. The Chinese defence ministry said Friday that this year's exercises were aimed at "further deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership" of the two countries. China has never denounced Russia's more than three-year war nor called for it to withdraw its troops, and many of Ukraine's allies, including the United States, believe that Beijing has provided support to Moscow. China insists it is a neutral party, regularly calling for an end to the fighting while also accusing Western countries of prolonging the conflict by arming Ukraine. AFP

Latam FX rises after US economic worries weigh on dollar

BRASILIA: Most Latin American currencies firmed on Friday as the dollar tumbled after signs of a cooling US labor market complicated the Federal Reserve's policy path, while investors also scrutinized the latest US tariff comments. US job growth slowed more than expected in July while the prior month's figures were revised sharply lower, data showed, indicating that the labor market could be showing signs of stalling, adding to some hopes of an interest rate cut in September. 'A higher likelihood of lower US rates can make the dollar relatively less attractive and that is a very favorable headwind for Latin American currencies; we are seeing quite a bit of relief' said Pablo Riveroll, fund manager & global head of equities research at Schroders. The dollar index edged down 0.9% following the data, boosting most emerging market currencies. The MSCI index tracking Latin America currencies was up 0.4%, set for marginal gains this week. Still, a recovery in the dollar this week after a US-European Union trade deal hit the euro had stalled the momentum in emerging markets, with broader indexes tracking developing market stocks and currencies heading for weekly declines. Meanwhile, investors globally were also grappling with a fresh set of US tariffs imposed on dozens of trade partners, that will come into effect on August 7. In Latin America, Brazil's real was up 0.8% and was on track for its biggest one-week rise in over a month as the country secured exemptions from 50% US tariffs on key exports. The local government expects to announce next week measures of a contingency plan it has been preparing to help businesses to cope with the levies.
