Tourist hotspot airport attacker 'can't remember anything' after stabbing man

Daily Mirror22-05-2025
The 45-year-old homeless man suspected of carrying out a stabbing at Majorca's Palma Airport this week has "no memory" of the attack on a stranger who was picking up a friend
A homeless knifeman who stabbed a stranger in the neck at a busy airport this week, which descended into panic as police arrived, claims they 'don't remember anything' of the attack.
Spanish police rushed to Majorca's Palma Airport on Tuesday night when a man who had travelled to the area to pick up an arriving friend was suddenly attacked. Police said the attacker approached the victim to ask something about his phone, when he struggled to understand, pulled out the weapon and stabbed him in the neck. In the wake of the incident a Salvadoran 45-year-old was remanded in custody.

Now a well-placed source said the attacker has no memory of the horror incident. They said: 'The man arrested said he doesn't remember anything.
'He is alleged to have gone beserk after his own phone was stolen as he was going through his bag at the airport after getting off a bus, and then going up to the first person he saw to ask him about his mobile wrongly thinking presumably it might be his."
According to local reports, the perpetrator was arrested shortly after the shock attack while still inside the airport, while his victim was treated at the scene by an ambulance from SAMU 061. He was stabilised by medics and later transferred to a hospital to receive specialised medical attention.
Detectives investigating the incident said: 'The incident happened at 10.35am on Tuesday outside the airport arrivals area next to the car park. A young man was stabbed in the neck and suffered a wound a few centimetres from the artery which required several stitches.
'The victim was walking with a friend towards the car park after having gone to meet a relative in arrivals when they were approached by a stranger. The suspect asked them about his mobile and then pounced on his victim brandishing a knife which he used to stab him in the neck.

'The young man tried to repel the attack and stop his assailant continuing to stab him, asking for help from security guards who were in the area and managed to restrain the knifeman.'
It is believed the attacker was one of the rough sleepers at Palma Airport. The victim is an Argentinian living on the island who had gone to pick up a relative. He had never met the person who came close to ending his life.
Lawyer Ivan Garcia Lopez, who is representing the accused, said: 'I am working on trying to secure his release on bail.'
Local people have expressed their concern about the stabbing too and what they see as increasing crime in Mallorca. The distressing incident came following an attempted stabbing last weekend during which a knifeman was shot by police.
Officers with Spain's National Police had shot down an unnamed individual after he allegedly tried to rob a taxi driver at knifepount in the vicinity of Gran Canaria Airport at around 4.50pm on Sunday. The suspect, a man, is believed to have pounced on the officers with the weapon, forcing them to repel the attack by force.

Millionaire safari boss gored and stamped to death by elephant in horror safari attack

It is the third horrific death at the reserve inside a year after rangers David Kandela and Philani Sibiya were killed with the elephants understood to be part of the same herd The co-owner of one of the world's leading game reserves has been trampled to death after being speared by an angry elephant. ‌ Gondwana Private Game Reserve boss FC Conradie was gored by the six-ton animal as the Chief Executive Officer was charged at the safari park. He was trying to move the huge creatures away from tourist lodges when one reacted badly, and suddenly attacked the 39-year-old. ‌ After the injured millionaire was thrown to the floor, the elephant stamped on him, killing him instantly. A Gondwana Private Game Reserve spokesman confirmed: "It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of FC Conradie who was our CEO in a tragic incident earlier today." ‌ "It involved an elephant bull and this heart-breaking event has shaken us all. Our full support is first and foremost with his wife and family who have suffered an unimaginable loss and we ask that their privacy be respected as they face this tragedy. The leadership team are focused on providing every possible support to them and our staff many of whom have lost both a leader and a friend and a mentor here at Gondwana. "We are working closely with the relevant authorities to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and at this time we are unable to provide further comment. We thank everyone for their messages of compassion and support." ‌ It comes after two rangers David Kandela, 36, and Philani Sibiya, 33, were killed in separate incident after being trampled to death by elephants while going about their duties at the reserve last year. The elephants that killed the CEO and Mr Kandela are understood to be part of the same herd. South African Police spokesperson Officer Kappie Kapp said: "It was reported at 8am on Tuesday that an employee at Gondwana Game reserve was attacked by an elephant. He had been trampled and mauled by the elephant and the emergency services declared the man dead at the scene and rangers moved the elephant away to another area. An inquest has been opened and a full investigation is underway." Earlier this year, a Spanish tourist was crushed to death in an horrific stampede in the country . The visitors died front of his screaming fiancee after he got out of his car to take photographs in a South African game reserve. The four visitors were driving round the Pilanesberg National Park close to the world famous tourist resort Sun City when they spotted a breeding herd with three young by a lake. ‌ Despite warnings from his three fellow passengers to get back into the car the tourist, aged 43, said he wanted to get close-ups of the six elephants and got out and walked towards them. A huge 3.5 ton adult female cow protecting the young members of the herd was spooked and charged at the man and she was joined by the other two adult bulls who also attacked. The screaming Spaniard was racing back with his camera to safety through the bush to his friends in the car but was overtaken by the chasing herd who knocked him down and trampled him to death. All that witnesses said was left was left after the 30 second attack was the tattered blood-soaked clothing of the tourist and the remnants of what was the tourist's body crushed into the earth. It is understood the dead man was on holiday from Spain with his fiancee and was with two of her South African friends from Johannesburg when the tragedy happened on Sunday morning. A North-West Parks & Tourism Board spokesman said: 'The elephants moved away immediately from the scene without any aggression towards the nearby vehicles and disappeared in the bushes. The guest was a male Spanish citizen who had entered at Bakgatia Gate with three friends and not far from the gate had come across a breeding herd of elephants feeding a distance from the road. According to eye witnesses the man decided to alight from the vehicle and approach the elephants on foot taking pictures.'' 'Despite warnings from his fellow passengers and occupants from two other vehicles that were at the sighting he unfortunately did not heed the warnings. An adult elephant cow charged at the man who then ran from the elephant. He was unfortunately not able to escape or evade the elephant which was now joined by the whole herd and was caught and trampled to death.

Beach evacuated in popular holiday hotspot after mystery fish 'attacks tourist'

The tourist was attacked by an unknown sea creature on a beach in a popular holiday destination, leading to the shoreline being evacuated as a search was carried out A Spanish beach at a popular holiday hotspot was cleared this week after a tourist was attacked by an unidentified marine creature. A red flag was lifted on Tuesday morning (July 22) at Playa de Palma, the main beach in Majorca's capital, after a woman sustained a "severe bite" to her leg. ‌ The holidaymaker, reportedly an 85-year-old Italian national, emerged from the water with "part of her calf torn off", according to the Majorca Daily Bulletin. Lifeguards took the decision to clear the coastline to conduct a hunt for the animal, though the beach reopened roughly an hour later when no creature was discovered. ‌ ‌ Consequently, the species behind the attack remains unknown, but marine specialists have offered their theories on the most probable culprit, reports Chronicle Live. Fisheries Director General Toni Grau suggested to the Majorca Daily Bulletin that a triggerfish might have been responsible - a species inhabiting warm waters globally and notorious for aggressive territorial instincts. Meanwhile, Aniol Esteban, a marine biodiversity specialist from the Marilles Foundation, proposed that a bluefish could have launched the assault. Another species thriving in warmer regions worldwide, bluefish rarely target humans but have been documented attacking when feeling under threat or occasionally confusing swimmers for prey. ‌ Police and emergency services rushed to Playa de Palma after a woman suffered a severe bite on her leg, which was treated by two ambulances on the beach before she was whisked away to hospital. The attack left her with part of her skin torn off and a "significant gash" in a shocking incident near a bustling beach bar. Marine experts have highlighted that shark attacks are "extremely rare" in Mediterranean waters, suggesting the recent event is unlikely to be shark-related. This summer has seen several reports of swimmers being bitten by fish on Majorca's beaches. Holidaymakers recount painful nips on their legs and feet by small, feisty fish in shallow waters, with some speculating that climate change is pushing marine life closer to the coast due to warmer sea temperatures, an issue affecting various parts of the beloved Spanish island. ‌ While most encounters result in minor injuries, there have been instances of more severe bites necessitating medical care. Earlier this month, a German tourist recounted a harrowing experience where he had to hastily exit the water after sustaining a bite that caused significant bleeding, as reported by EuroWeekly. Should you suspect you've been nipped while enjoying a dip during your holidays, experts recommend exiting the water immediately and cleansing the wound with saltwater and gentle soap where possible. Should the injury be bleeding, press firmly with a clean fabric until professional medical help can be secured. There are also venomous marine animals to be wary of, with the NHS recommending that those wading in British waters should seek medical guidance "as soon as possible" if stung by creatures such as jellyfish. The health service suggests always visiting a minor injuries unit if the sting has resulted in intense pain that persists, or if you've been stung by a marine creature whilst holidaying in tropical locations.

"But it all happened after touching down and the passenger ran for it before stunned colleagues could do anything." It is not understood that an arrest has been made in connection with the cabin crew attack.
