Cambodia seeks UNSC meeting amid flare-up with Thailand
He stated this in a letter addressed to Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for July 2025.
In light of the recent serious incidents along the border, which pose a significant challenge to regional peace and stability, Manet "earnestly request' that the UNSC convene a meeting to address the situation.
The letter was posted on his Facebook page on Thursday (July 24).
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his hope that both Thailand and Cambodia will cease military engagements along their disputed borders and enter into peace talks soon.
Describing the early morning skirmish between Thai and Cambodian troops as concerning, Anwar, the current Asean Chair, said he hopes to speak with the leaders of both nations later today to express his views.
"They're important members of Asean; they're very close to Malaysia, and I have been messaging both the prime ministers. The least we can expect is for them to stand down, and hopefully to try and enter into negotiations.
"They have tried, but I still think peace is the only option available,' he reportedly told reporters after delivering his keynote address at the Asean Semiconductor Summit 2025 (ASEMIS) here. - Bernama

BANGKOK: The Thai military and police have been granted a right to intercept and destroy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) without warning within the ban on use of drones, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti quoting aThai PBS report on Saturday, citing the military. The nationwide ban on use of drones came into effect on July 29, and the new measures allowing the military to intercept and destroy drones were introduced in two military districts, including the border areas between Thailand and Cambodia, the broadcaster said. The escalation of the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia turned into an armed confrontation on July 24. After clashes in the border area, the sides exchanged artillery fire, with Cambodia using Grad multiple rocket launcher systems, including against civilian targets in Thailand, while Thailand carried out an airstrike on Cambodian military positions. Both sides reported casualties, including civilians. Thailand approves Malaysia, US, China as observers for GBC meeting
BANGKOK: Thailand has agreed to the inclusion of representatives from Malaysia—this year's ASEAN Chair—alongside the United States and China as observers at the upcoming General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, set to take place in Kuala Lumpur next week. Acting Defence Minister General Natthapon Nakpanich welcomed the consensus on holding the extraordinary GBC meeting in Malaysia from August 4 to 7, expressing appreciation for the collaborative effort. 'It is my pleasure to confirm that Thailand accepts the proposal to include representatives from Malaysia, as the ASEAN Chair, US and China, who have been providing assistance since July 28, as observers to the GBC meeting,' he said in a statement. He added that the participation of observers from Malaysia, the United States, and China is scheduled to take place on August 7. Natthapon also expressed his sincere appreciation to all parties involved in making the preparations possible, particularly to the Malaysian side for its excellent coordination in arranging this important meeting. Last Thursday, Thailand's Defence Ministry proposed that the upcoming GBC meeting be held on neutral ground, suggesting Malaysia as the venue, and recommended that it run from Aug 4 to 7 to allow sufficient time for comprehensive discussions. Trump visit will cause traffic jam from hell, reckons home-grown stand-up comedian Jason Leong
US President Donald Trump's decision to visit during the ASEAN Summit in October appears to be a feather in Malaysia's diplomatic cap. However, not all Malaysians are so enamoured with the visit of the former TV reality star. One such citizen is well-known stand-up comedian Dr Jason Leong who opined that all roads leading to Kuala Lumpur, including byways, highways and even the small loose bitumen trail leading to your mother's house – will be closed. For a month as well before and after Trump's much ballyhooed visit, projected Leong who gave up his career as a doctor to focus on being a full-time stand-up comedian in 2014. The 40-year-old comic was obviously poking fun at the security measures that will be undertaken to ensure the safety of The Don while he's here. Leong foresees Trumps visit to KL would bring the entire capital city which is often gridlocked anyway to a complete and utter standstill. The post has already generated 1.2K likes, 390 comments and 87 shares at time of publication. Some commenters seemed confused by the need for a US leader to come calling at an ASEAN shindig. More than a few saw the similarities with the pandemic, claiming that the authorities might as well just declare an MCO (movement control order). It'd certainly save the hassle of being stuck in traffic for hours. Better still, just declare public holiday as seems to be the typical SOP (standard operating procedure) in Malaysia. One observer wanted a tit-for-tat response to implementation of US tariffs on Malaysian exports, taxing the special presidential ride (codenamed The Beast). However, one did see a positive side to the whole affair. Malaysians will be getting better roads as the route will be patched up to be good as new. Modifying Trump's much trumpeted 'MAGA' (Making America Great Again) slogan, one commenter declared the US Commander in Chief had come to 'Make ASEAN Great Again'.
