Saudi Arabia to Participate at London Design Biennale with ‘Good Water' Pavilion

Leaders27-03-2025
Saudi Arabia will take part at the London Design Biennale 2025 with 'Good Water' Exhibition at Somerset House, according to Arab News.
Set to run from June 5-29, the exhibition highlights the hidden costs and economies of water, inviting visitors to reconsider their relationship with water.
Curated by a multidisciplinary design team including Alaa Tarabzouni, Aziz Jamal, Dur Kattan and Fahad bin Naif, Saudi Arabia's pavilion will showcase several artworks revolving around water.
'The pavilion uses familiar elements to draw attention to water's hidden economies,' said the participants Tarabzouni, Jamal, Kattan and bin Naif in a joint statement.
Interestingly, the artworks will challenge the traditional concepts of access, distribution and the value of water under the supervision of the Architecture and Design Commission.
'Saudi Arabia's return to the London Design Biennale marks another chapter in our commitment to design as a tool for dialogue and cultural exchange. We look forward to engaging in conversations on creativity, innovation, and systems thinking during our fourth participation in the event,' Sumaya Al-Sulaiman, CEO of the Architecture and Design Commission, said.
The Saudi pavilion will feature a sabeel, a traditional water fountain deeply rooted in Saudi heritage.
This fountain serves as a symbol of hospitality and generosity in the Saudi culture offering complimentary water to anyone who passes by.
In the light of this, 'Good Water' reintroduces the idea of the fountain, not only as a gesture of goodwill, but also as a significant question: Who pays for 'free' water? What is its true cost?
'The pavilion encourages visitors to drink with awareness, to acknowledge the price, and to recognize that while the cost of good water may be borne by someone else, it ultimately affects everyone. By relocating the sabeel to the London Design Biennale—where water scarcity is not an immediate concern—we reframe it as an object of scrutiny, making the invisible visible and the passive active,' the statement added.
The Kingdom previously participated at the 4th London Design Biennale in 2023 through a pavilion titled 'Woven' curated by Ruba Alkhaldi and Lojain Rafaa.

Saudi Arabia tops global ranking in intl tourism revenues growth during Q1 2025

Saudi Arabia has ranked first as the top tourist destination globally in terms of growth in international tourism revenues during the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same period in 2019, according to the UN Tourism Barometer Report published in May 2025 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. According to the report, Saudi Arabia ranked third globally in terms of the growth in the number of international tourists during Q1 2025 compared to Q1 2019. It also ranked second in the Middle East for the same period. The Kingdom recorded a 102% growth in the number of international tourists during Q1 2025 compared to the same period in 2019, far surpassing the global average growth rate of 3% and the Middle East's average growth of 44%, further strengthening its global and regional leadership in the tourism sector. For his part, Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al Khateeb stated on social networking platform 'X' that this achievement reflects Saudi Arabia's advancing position in the tourism sector, backed by its leadership. This came thanks to working with a teamwork spirit to achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, said the minister, expressing optimism for further growth and enhanced positioning for the Kingdom on the global tourism map. According to data available with Argaam, the Ministry of Tourism revealed earlier that Saudi Arabia achieved a record surplus from travel in its balance of payments during Q1 2025, reaching nearly SAR 26.8 billion, driven by spending from incoming international visitors. Spending by inbound visitors to Saudi Arabia during Q1 2025 reached SAR 49.4 billion, a growth of about 10% year-on-year.

AICTEC converts branch into LLC to carry out all technical projects

Advance International Co. for Communication and Information Technology (AICTEC) completed procedures for the spin-off of its technical projects execution arm by converting its branch, Nabah Technology Co., into a single-member limited liability company (LLC), wholly owned 100% by AICTEC. This step comes as part of the company's plans to restructure its operational segments, aiming to enhance focus on its core activities, according to a statement to Tadawul. The newly formed company will be responsible for executing all technical project operations. This event does not have any material financial impact on the financial statements. The procedure has been completed, and a commercial registration certificate has been issued for the newly formed single-member LLC, the statement added. The company will announce any future developments in due course. According to data available on Argaam, the company approved, in May, a comprehensive strategic plan to restructure its technical and operational divisions. The move is part of AICTEC's efforts to improve operational efficiency and deepen specialization in technical and operational services. As part of the plan, AICTEC would spin off its projects segment into a wholly owned subsidiary and also separate its wholesale segment into another wholly owned subsidiary. In addition, AICTEC said it would establish a new unit dedicated to technical services, cybersecurity, and programming, which will also be a wholly owned entity. The company further plans to develop an investment arm to explore opportunities for strategic partnerships and future expansion. Last month, AICTEC announced the spin-off of its wholesale business by converting its branch, Innovation Passage Technology Co., into a wholly owned, single-member limited liability company (LLC).
