When
first narrated the story to her, she was moved to tears. The film's emotional depth, its portrayal of family ties, and its heartwarming spirit struck a chord with her instantly. With a star-studded cast including
, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan,
,
, and Kareena Kapoor, K3G became more than just a film — it became a sentiment.
Produced by Dharma Productions, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was made on a grand scale with a budget of ₹35 crore. But its success far exceeded expectations, raking in around ₹135 crore worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year. Remarkably, it even surpassed the box office collection of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, another blockbuster starring
and
.
What makes this blockbuster even more memorable is the story behind its casting. Karan Johar had always envisioned Kajol in the lead role but felt apprehensive about approaching her. At the time, she had just gotten married, and he worried she might turn down such a big project. To his surprise, her reaction was nothing like he feared. As soon as Karan finished narrating the story, Kajol grew emotional and began to cry.
In an old interview with Hindustan Times, Karan recalled, 'After hearing the story, Kajol started crying and told me, 'I will do this film.'' That moment sealed her return to one of the most iconic characters of her career.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham will complete 24 years towards the end of 2025, and nearly two and a half decades later, it still holds an irreplaceable place in audiences' hearts. During an Instagram Live session in April, Karan finally addressed a question that fans have been asking for years: will there ever be a sequel to K3G? While promoting Kesari Chapter 2, he took a moment to respond candidly. 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2 is not happening,' he said.
'We should leave it alone now.'

Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Over the years, Kajol and have balanced busy film careers with a close-knit family life. Kajol recently shared funny and sweet memories of her pregnancies and revealed how she and the 'Singham' actor have always managed family life together without sticking to old rules. 'We share responsibilities' The 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' actress said that in their house, there are no strict roles about who does what. Everything is shared. 'I don't think we ever functioned that way. We share responsibilities. If I'm there, I do things. If he's there, he does it. It's as simple as that," she explained. When it comes to looking after the kids, Kajol is relieved that they've moved past the nappy stage. 'The best thing is that our children don't need to get their nappies changed anymore. Thank god for that (laughs),' she said. She then revealed something cheeky about Ajay. 'When Nysa and Yug were babies, Ajay did change their nappies once or twice. He may tell you that he did it more than two times but I would've to disagree on that point." Now that the kids are older, Kajol said life at home is a lot easier. 'We've passed that stage and nobody needs to take that responsibility anymore. We're good. Today, it's more about supervision and talking to our children about their issues. It's much easier to swap those roles around," she shared. 'It was so precious' Kajol also took a moment to remember when she found out she was pregnant for the first time. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In April 2003, she gave birth to Nysa. 'I wasn't surprised or overwhelmed," she said. 'It was so precious. It was one of those feelings where I wanted to touch wood all the time and make sure that everything goes perfectly well because what was happening was so awesome. I felt like the magic of the universe was within me." 'Pretty much chill' the second time When she was pregnant with Yug, who was born in September 2010, Kajol said she was a lot calmer. 'It was still amazing but I was calmer and cooler about it. I wasn't upset or worried. I wasn't calling up the doctor every two minutes to ask, 'Oh god, this has happened! What do I do?' I knew what was going to happen and where things were going. I was well-aware about how I would progress in the third and the fourth months. I had a lot more fun when I was pregnant for the second time," Kajol said. Staying active helped Kajol also shared that working out during both her pregnancies kept her feeling normal and allowed her to enjoy the experience even more. She said that staying active gave her a huge boost and helped her remain part of the everyday world. Without doing her regular activities, she would have felt very detached, almost like the world was moving in one direction while she was on a completely different path. Kajol mentioned that her second pregnancy, in particular, helped her stay connected to normal life.

Maa Box Office Collection Day 5: Horror film becomes Kajol's 10th highest earning film of all time; sees minimal growth on Tuesday
After a promising start and a strong opening weekend, Kajol 's supernatural thriller Maa is holding steady at the box office. On Day 5 (Tuesday), the film saw a modest rise in collections, earning an estimated Rs 2.85 crore, according to data from Sacnilk. This brings its five-day India net total to approximately Rs 23 crore. Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa had opened to encouraging numbers on Friday with Rs 4.65 crore, followed by a solid Saturday (Rs 6 crore) and Sunday (Rs 7 crore), pushing its weekend total to Rs 17.65 crore. However, the film saw a sharp 64% drop on Monday, earning Rs 2.5 crore. Tuesday's slight upward trend suggests the film may continue its slow and steady pace through the week. Maa follows the story of a mother, played by Kajol, who transforms into Goddess Kali to break a horrific curse rooted in fear, blood, and betrayal. With its blend of horror, mythology, and maternal strength, the film has struck a chord with audiences, especially fans of the genre. The film also stars Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma, and Ronit Roy, and is written by Saiwyn Quadras. With its five-day total, Maa has now officially entered the list of Kajol's top 10 highest-grossing films of all time. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Invertir en Cervecería Nacional CFD podría proporcionarte un ingreso adicional Empieza a invertir hoy Registro Undo Currently at the 10th spot, the film is only a few crores shy of overtaking her 1997 hit Ishq, which earned Rs 24.8 crore in its lifetime run. Whether Maa can surpass fan favourites like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which earned an estimated Rs 46.88 crore, remains to be seen, but the film's performance so far signals a solid comeback for Kajol in her first major theatrical release since Salaam Venky (2022). With steady word-of-mouth and limited genre competition, Maa is now poised to cross the Rs 25 crore mark in the coming days.

Vishnu Manchu told Ajith Kumar he was ‘disappointed' with his side role in Asoka; here's how he reacted
Vishnu Manchu is basking in the positive response for his latest release Kannappa. The actor was recently asked whether he has any plans to act in a Bollywood film, to which he said he would do so, given the part is good. Vishnu also shared that he was disappointed with the role that was given to Ajith Kumar in the 2001 movie Asoka, which was directed by Santosh Sivan. (Also read: Frustrated Prabhas fan wants to sue Vishnu Manchu after watching Kannappa: 'Where is Shiva, why are you showing heroism') Vishnu Manchu talked about his opinion on Ajith Kumar's part in Asoka. During an interaction with India Today, Vishnu said he is waiting for the right opportunity in Hindi cinema. He added, 'A long time ago, I was approached, but the roles didn't excite me much. See, we all aspire to be top actors - respected actors. And whatever following or fan base I have, I've built it with a lot of love. I have to respect that. I can't take my fans for granted. For example, Mr Ajith (Kumar), one of the biggest superstars in India, did a role in 'Asoka' with Shah Rukh Khan. I had the opportunity to talk to him. In fact, I told him in the early stages, 'Anna' (which means elder brother), 'I was disappointed you did such a small role.' He just smiled and stayed quiet.' He went on to add, 'I can't just come and do a random character. It has to be something that really excites me. I can't be selfish and say, 'I'll do what I want, whether they like it or not.'' In Asoka, Ajith played the role of Sushima, which was a special appearance in the film. The film, which was based on the early life of emperor Ashoka of the Maurya Empire, also starred Kareena Kapoor, Danny Denzongpa, and Rahul Dev.
