Hong Kong star aims to use Chinese Super League lessons in valuable Nepal test

Sun Ming-him said the Chinese Super League (CSL) had taught him 'how to deal with the psychological side of football', as he looked forward to a crucial week for the Hong Kong team.

Left-back Sun quickly became a regular starter for Cangzhou Mighty Lions after his transfer from Eastern in February 2024.
The 24-year-old's career was temporarily thrown up in the air, however, when Cangzhou's financial issues saw them slung out of the Chinese leagues for 2025.
Sun had sufficiently impressed in his debut campaign that he was snapped up by Tianjin Jinmen Tiger, who now sit sixth in the CSL standings.
'I had to start again from the beginning, to know my position in the team and how I could help,' Sun said. 'I needed to adapt to a new environment, and a new coach and teammates. They've all helped me, I'm so thankful for the chance, and I'm also grateful to Cangzhou for taking me to the CSL.'

Already capped 34 times by Hong Kong, and an instrumental figure in the under-23s' 2023 Asian Games semi-final run, Sun was a flagbearer for the city's footballers when he moved across the border soon after last year's AFC Asian Cup finals.

Beauty Waves salutes in stable debut for Tony Cruz: ‘I'm so happy this horse came over'

Talented sprinter Beauty Waves made the perfect start to life with new trainer Tony Cruz, banking a tough win in Saturday's Class One Pearce Memorial Challenge Cup (1,000m) at Sha Tin. Recently transferred to Cruz after four wins for Pierre Ng Pang-chi, the Irish import enhanced his reputation as a straight-track specialist when he proved too slick for strong opposition in Saturday's feature. Backed from $6.9 to $3.7 late, Beauty Waves was sent forward by Alexis Badel to race on the speed and fought on gamely to beat $3.5 favourite Wunderbar by half a length. 'I was expecting him to run a big race,' Cruz said of the five-year-old, who won the Group Three National Day Sprint (1,000m) for Ng and Badel in October. Beauty Waves is a winner again! Team bus of CSL leaders Beijing Guoan seized over debt issues, players forced to hire bikes

Chinese Super League (CSL) leaders Beijing Guoan have had their team bus seized, forcing players to return from training using shared bikes, as the club's parent company struggles with billions of yuan of debt. Advertisement Pictures on social media on Friday showed the team bus being towed away with its door bearing a seal from the Beijing Intermediate People's Court. Images then started circulating on Chinese social media showing three of the club's foreign players hiring shared bikes and riding away from the training complex wearing their kit. The real estate company Sinobo Group holds a 64 per cent stake in Beijing Guoan and reportedly owes more than 3.68 billion yuan (US$502 million). Despite the off-field issues, Guoan invested heavily in the build-up to the 2025 season, including bringing in former Barcelona manager Quique Setien to lead the team, as well as seven first-team players. With big matches coming to Hong Kong, it's important that all fans feel safe

Hong Kong has caught football fever, with the city playing host to a string of high-profile events. Top European teams will soon compete in a 'football festival' and a museum dedicated to superstar Cristiano Ronaldo opens this month. Hopes of bringing the Brazilian national team to the city were revealed last week. But all of this has, so far, been outshone by a match featuring the Hong Kong team. The vibrant atmosphere created by more than 42,000 fans celebrating the recent win over India was a joy to watch. Local fans enjoyed a memorable evening at the new Kai Tak Stadium. Such occasions give Hong Kong football a much-needed boost. But the experience was not so enjoyable for a 31-year-old Indian woman and resident of the city, who gave her name as Yaga. She alleged she had been harassed and intimidated by rival Hong Kong fans sitting near her in response to her passionate support for the Indian team, posting a video that partly supports her claims. Yaga says water was thrown over her and an obscene gesture made towards her by one local fan. She was laughed at, stared at and taunted, she said.
