Commentator Chip Caray learns his fate after accidental homophobic slur live on air during Pride Night promo
The 60-year-old broadcaster hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons when he inadvertently used a homophobic slur at the worst possible moment live on air.
Speaking on FanDuel Sports Network Midwest's broadcast of the Cardinals-Reds game, he said: 'Disability Pride Night is Thursday, July 10. With a themed ticket, fans take home a Cardinals cap featuring the disability pride fa**... flag.'
What followed was an uncomfortable 31 seconds of silence, before analyst Brad Thompson chimed in to continue the pair's narration of the game.
While no official statement has yet been made, Front Office Sports report that Caray will not face any punishment for the accidental slur.
Instead, the network understands it to be an 'honest mistake', per sources, and that Caray meant to insult to any of the viewers.

The decision is set to go down well with fans, who quickly insisted that the viral moment should not result in any punishment for Caray - the grandson of legendary announcer Harry.
'It was an obvious slip of the tongue, just a simple apology and move on,' one wrote, while another added: 'The silence after is the apology, he's obviously mortified and probably has a thousand thoughts running in his head.
'He should not be reprimanded. It was literally a slip of the tongue. I highly doubt Caray is running around using that word. People need to focus on real outrage.'
The on-air Freudian slip led to some making the comparison with announcer Thom Brennaman's homophobic slur back in 2020, while results in him being exiled from broadcasting for nearly four years.
The difference in that case, though, is that Brennaman thought he was off-air when he referred to Kansas City as 'one of the f*g capitals of the world'.
'Within seven hours, I was basically fired for everything,' Brennaman said in an interview with The Athletic last year.
He now has a new job with the CW calling college football and said of his current role: 'There are no words to describe how grateful I am that they're rolling the dice. They don't have to do this.'

Former Arsenal star Rob Holding, 29, lined up for shock MLS transfer following failed Sheffield United loan
ROB HOLDING is on the radar of MLS clubs as his Crystal Palace future is in doubt. The ex-Arsenal defender, 29, had a loan at Sheffield United for the second half of last season. 3 Championship sides are keen but there is interest in the US for a second year running. The defender was signed from Arsenal for £4million in 2023, but he played only one game for the Eagles after falling out with manager Oliver Glasner. He was then sent to train with the junior team, where he remained frozen out until deadline day of the January transfer window, when he joined Sheffield United. He went on to make 10 appearances and provided one assist as Sheffield United finished third in the Championship but missed out on promotion and manager Chris Wilder leaving. Former Blades boss Wilder admitted he wanted to keep Holding before leaving his post after failing to secure Premier League promotion. He said: "Rob is just a straight loan until the end of the season, but he's certainly someone we'd be interested in if the loan goes well. 'You don't get signed by a club like Arsenal if you haven't got something about you – if you're not a little bit special. 'As sometimes happens, things didn't work out at Palace, and we've taken advantage of that. 'Everyone's been impressed with Rob in his early days here at Sheffield United." Royals turn to Kris Bubic in effort to avert sweep vs. Marlins
July 20 - Kansas City Royals manager Matt Quatraro feels the sense of urgency. The Royals, who will try to avoid a three-game series sweep on Sunday at the Miami Marlins, went 7-3 in their final 10 contests prior to the All-Star break. "We have to be more consistent on the little things -- moving runners, backing up bases," Quatraro said. "These are things that don't show up on the box score. "We have to play harder. We have to be more accountable to our teammates." The Royals will start left-hander Kris Bubic, who became a first-time All-Star this year, on Sunday. Bubic (7-6, 2.48 ERA) is greatly improved. Last year, he had a three-pitch mix while working exclusively in relief. This year, Bubic has two types of fastballs, two sliders and a changeup. His fastball velocity is not overpowering -- 92 to 93 mph -- but he has improved command. That explains why Bubic has taken such great strides from a pitcher who prior to this year was 9-27 with a 4.99 ERA as a starter. Bubic, who has yet to face the Marlins in his career, also has improved versus lefty hitters. Last year, they had a .701 OPS against him. This year, that number is down to .615. Offensively, the Royals are led by All-Star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., who is hitting .321 in July. Another Royals player to watch is rookie outfielder John Rave, who belted his first two major-league homers on Friday. Although Rave has struggled overall this season, batting .189, Quatraro has been encouraged. "We consider him an all-around player," Quatraro said of Rave. Junk has faced the Royals just once, going 1-0 with eight strikeouts over five scoreless innings in a 4-0 win in 2022 when he played for the Los Angeles Angels. He is on his fourth MLB franchise. He had a 1-3 record coming into this season. The Marlins are 5-1 in Junk's past six appearances. "I think Sanchez is going to have a big second half," Marlins rookie manager Clayton McCullough said. There's some historic evidence on the side of McCullough's statement. For example, in 328 career first-half games, Sanchez has a .717 OPS. But in 184 second-half games, he has a .793 OPS. Miami's other corner outfielder is All-Star Kyle Stowers, who has been perhaps the hottest hitter in baseball lately. In his two games prior to Saturday, Stowers had eight hits, five homers and 11 RBIs. He is the first player in exactly 100 years -- since Ty Cobb -- to produce at least those numbers in a two-game stretch.
