‘It means a lot to us': Winnipeg couple's truck stolen by a tow truck
A Winnipeg couple says a tow truck was recently used to steal their vehicle from their driveway. Harrison Shin reports. A Winnipeg couple says a tow truck was recently used to steal their vehicle from their driveway. Harrison Shin reports. A Winnipeg couple is speaking out after their vehicle was stolen by a tow truck while parked on their street. Tiffany Schritt and her husband, Jason, didn't notice anything wrong at first last week. On Friday morning, Jason left for work and returned home around 5:30 p.m. The couple was preparing for a trip to the lake and that's when they realized something was off. 'I was getting ready because we were going to go to the lake, and my husband walks in the door and he's like, 'Where's the truck?'' Tiffany said. She checked their home security footage and found something shocking. 'It was at 3:27 a.m., to be exact. We saw a tow truck go by, and then it must have turned around at the end of the street,' she said.'It came back, proceeded to back up into the truck, lifted it really quickly… and drove away immediately. Like, didn't even drop down.' The couple called to check if their truck had been towed for a legitimate reason. 'We proceeded to call the police, and they checked all the towing companies as well — and there was nothing there. It's officially stolen,' Tiffany said. Winnipeg police told CTV News the case is being investigated as a stolen vehicle. The city confirmed there were no active tow orders in the area at the time. While it's still unknown who was driving the tow truck, the emotional toll on the couple is clear. 'It's really stressful when your own personal item gets stolen that is of high value to you,' Tiffany said. 'It may mean nothing to somebody else, but it means a lot to us.'
