Hamzah denies plot to oust Muhyiddin, says only outsiders spreading ‘baseless gossip' to divide Perikatan

Yahooa day ago
KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has reportedly denied any rift within Perikatan Nasional (PN) and its lynchpin Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, saying critics were merely trying to divide the Opposition pact.
In an interview with Mingguan Malaysia, Hamzah denied any move to oust Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from leading the pact and party.
'Who's trying to remove whom? If someone were trying to oust him, surely I would be the first to know. But why am I not aware of anything?
'People say Muhyiddin is being pushed out — yet no one has said anything to me,' he was quoted saying.
Hamzah who is Muhyiddin's deputy in both PN and Bersatu, said it would be foolish for anyone to plan an ouster without discussing the succession plan with him.
'If someone did try and I said I wasn't interested, then what? What would happen? It would be foolish for anyone to act alone without discussing who's supposed to take over,' he said.
'To me, it's just baseless gossip from outsiders trying to divide us. That's all,' he added.
Instead, the Opposition Leader said the gossip and rumours over instability in PN was proof that the public is interested in the coalition.
'This shows that the public is interested in us because they see our potential. That's why people talk about us — they're not talking about other parties, because others don't have the same kind of potential,' he said.
'The ones spreading these stories aren't even members, and may not even be from within the party. Sometimes, even party members are left wondering — who said this? Who started this rumour?'
Hamzah insisted that there is no conflict between him and Muhyiddin, and they meet at least once a month for political discussions.
'We talk to each other, and there are no issues between us. It's outsiders who are trying to make it look like there are problems. It just goes to show how strong our party is — everyone is talking about us,' he added.

Trump calls Elon Musk's new political party ‘ridiculous' and ‘confusing'

President Donald Trump slammed Elon Musk's plan to launch a new political party, calling it 'ridiculous' and insisting the US has always been a 'two-party system.' (6 July) 'Starting a third party just adds to the confusion,' Trump told reporters while traveling to the White House from his New Jersey golf club. 'They've never worked—he can have fun with it, but I think it's ridiculous.' Musk announced on July 5 via X that he plans to bankroll a new political party called The America Party. Trump appointed Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, but tensions flared in June after the billionaire publicly criticised Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill,' sparking an online dispute.

Donald Trump brands Elon Musk a 'train wreck'

President Donald Trump has branded Elon Musk a "train wreck". The 78-year-old commander-in-chief hit out at his former friend and advisor after the tech mogul declared his intention to start his own political party, the America Party, and warned the Space X boss that the initiative would fail. He wrote on his Truth Social platform: 'I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks. He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States." Trump warned that Musk's plans for a third political party to rival the Democrats and Republicans would cause "total disruption and chaos". He continued: 'The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION CHAOS,' Trump wrote in his Truth Social post, 'and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds! Republicans, on the other hand, are a smooth running 'machine,' that just passed the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country.' The two men fell out because of a proposed spending bill, and Trump claimed Musk objected because of his own personal financial interests. He wrote: 'It is a Great Bill but, unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time. I have been strongly opposed to that from the very beginning. "People are now allowed to buy whatever they want - Gasoline Powered, Hybrids (which are doing very well), or New Technologies as they come about - No more EV Mandate." The Tesla boss shared his intention to set up a political party to give people "back [their] freedom" over the weekend. He wrote: 'By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste + graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. 'Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.'

Tesla slides 7% as Musk's 'America Party' reignites investor angst

By Joel Jose (Reuters) -Tesla shares fell nearly 7% in premarket trading on Monday, after CEO Elon Musk's plans to launch a new U.S. political party reignited investor concerns about his commitment to the electric-vehicle maker's future. Musk, the former head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), unveiled the 'America Party' on Saturday, voicing his displeasure over President Donald Trump's 'One Big, Beautiful Bill'. Musk's move marks a fresh escalation in his feud with Trump and comes close on the heels of Tesla posting a second straight drop in deliveries, further denting investor confidence in the stock that has lost more than 21% so far this year. Trump and Musk's relationship erupted into an all-out social media brawl early June over the tax bill, with the U.S. president threatening to cut Musk's government contracts and subsidies. "Investors are worried about two things – one is more Trump ire affecting subsidies and the other, more importantly, is a distracted Musk," said Neil Wilson, UK investor strategist at Saxo Markets. Musk, who spent nearly $300 million backing Trump and other Republicans last year, said in May he would scale back political spending and remain Tesla CEO for another five years, aiming to ease investor concerns over his focus and government ties. "Investors had cheered Musk stepping back from frontline politics but are now worried he's going to (get) sucked back in and take his eye off Tesla," Wilson added. The first signs of investor unease surfaced soon after Musk's announcement, with investment firm Azoria Partners delaying the listing of a Tesla exchange-traded fund, Azoria CEO James Fishback said in a post on X. Trump on Sunday called Musk's plans to form the "America Party" "ridiculous," saying the Musk ally he once named to lead NASA would have presented a conflict of interest given Musk's business interests in space. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, a Tesla bull, said many of the company's investors are feeling a "sense of exhaustion" over Musk's insistence on immersing himself in politics. Tensions with Trump, struggling sales and an aging vehicle line-up have weighed heavily on Tesla's stock, even as the company bets on growth from autonomous vehicles. The stock, which soared to over $488 in December after Trump's November re-election, has lost 35% since then and closed last week at $315.35.
