Family of Tampa man killed in West Bank calls for investigation

Relatives of a Tampa man who was killed last week in a fight with Israeli settlers in the West Bank are calling on the U.S. State Department to investigate. State of play: The settlers beat to death Sayfollah Musallet, a 20-year-old Palestinian American business owner, the Palestinian Health Ministry said, according to WUSF and NPR. Musallet's family and the Council on American-Islamic Relations' Florida chapter held a news conference Monday calling for accountability, saying Musallet was trying to protect his family's land. The settlers blocked an ambulance from getting to Musallet, his family said in a statement, per WUSF. After they cleared, his brother rushed him to the ambulance, but Musallet died before reaching the hospital. What they're saying: "We demand justice," family members wrote in a statement. "This is an unimaginable nightmare and an injustice that no family should ever have to face." The State Department did not immediately return Axios' request for comment Tuesday and declined to comment to WUSF. The other side: Israel's military said the confrontation started after Palestinians threw rocks at Israelis in the area, lightly injuring two people, WUSF reported. Zoom in: Musallet, whose family calls him Saif, grew up in Port Charlotte, where he rode out 2004's Hurricane Charley in the laundry room with his mother at just 2 weeks old, per the Tampa Bay Times. He moved to Tampa last year to buy an ice cream shop with his cousins. Business at Ice SSSScreaming in the University area took off, and Musallet wanted to expand, said his great-uncle, Hesam Musallet, who was like a grandfather to him. "He's not just a number," Hesam Musallet said. "He was a person. He was a name. He had loved ones."

Terry Rozier Still Under Federal Investigation For Gambling Scandal

MIAMI, FLORIDA - MARCH 08: Terry Rozier #2 of the Miami Heat dribbles the ball against the Chicago ... More Bulls during the first quarter of the game at Kaseya Center on March 08, 2025 in Miami, Florida. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by) After initially being cleared of any wrongdoing in a gambling scandal that took place in 2023, it appears that Terry Rozier is not out of the woods just yet. On Tuesday, NBA Insider Chris Haynes reported that Rozier is indeed still under federal investigation. Rozier Being Investigated For Suspicious Betting In March Of 2023 On March 23, 2023, the Charlotte Hornets (Rozier's then-employer) fell to the New Orleans Pelicans 115-96. Given that neither team made the playoffs that season, this game seems largely insignificant in the story of NBA history. However, that game caught the attention of both the league front office and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York because of the alarming number of under bets taken on Rozier's individual statistical lines. In 2022-23, Rozier averaged 21.1 PPG, 5.1 APG, and 4.1 RPG, but he was limited to just five points, four rebounds, and two assists after leaving the game with a sore foot injury ten minutes into his night. This situation is eerily similar to the one that led to Jontay Porter being permanently banned from the league last season. Sportsbooks endured an unusual number of under bets in games that Porter ended up leaving with an injury. An athlete gambling on their own games is not a matter that is taken lightly by the league or the federal government. Along with no longer being able to play in the NBA, Porter is facing fines, hundreds of thousands of dollars in restitution, and a three to four year federal prison sentence. Malik Beasley is now under investigation for a similar matter that could threaten to end his career one year after his best season in the NBA (one where he finished second in Sixth Man of the Year voting). When reports first came out about Rozier being under scrutiny, NBA spokesman Mike Bass stated that the league had already conducted an investigation on the matter and "did not find any violation of NBA rules." The current investigation we are discussing is being done by the federal government. Part of what makes fans so entrenched in sports is the unpredictability of it all. If they get any inkling of foul play from the individuals involved in those games, it could turn a lot of people away (that is why the NBA Draft Lottery is not rigged). So, the league is super cautious about maintaining the integrity of the sport. Hence, the harsh penalties that are imposed on these offenders. What Does This Mean For The Miami Heat? As sad as it is to say, the Miami Heat likely won't miss Rozier too much if he is no longer allowed to play for them. Ever since joining the Heat during the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline, Rozier has failed to rekindle the offensive punch that made him such a tantalizing asset to go out and acquire. In 93 games with the Heat, Rozier has averaged just 12.5 PPG and 3.3 APG on 51.1% true shooting. That is a far cry from the 20 PPG and 4.7 APG on 55.5% TS he posted in his half decade run WITH Charlotte. Last week, the Heat were a part of a three-team trade that netted them Norman Powell. Powell – a more effective version of the combo guard archetype that Rozier is classified under – seems poised to usurp the 10-year veteran on the Heat's depth chart. Some folks suspected that the Heat would try to negotiate a buyout with Rozier, thus making him available to the other 29 teams in the association. But after this recent piece of news, it seems that we will need to wait a little longer before anything like that happens.

Philadelphia woman charged in connection with 4-month old's death in Camden, prosecutor says

A Philadelphia woman was charged in connection with the death of a 4-month-old boy in Camden, New Jersey, who was found in a trash bag within a bassinet, Camden County Prosecutor Grace MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez announced on Tuesday. Ebony Gee, 43, was charged with desecration of human remains and witness tampering, the prosecutor said. Camden County police officers and EMS personnel responded to a home on the 1200 block of Lakeshore Drive for a baby who was unconscious on May 19. The prosecutor said first responders found a baby boy in a trash bag within a bassinet. Detectives found during the investigation that Gee was caring for a friend's baby. She spent her time with the baby in a second-story bedroom at the home in Camden starting in mid-April, according to a news release about the investigation. A witness told detectives that Gee wouldn't let them see the baby and never saw the baby in the home. Eventually, the witness was able to get into the bedroom and found the baby and notified authorities on May 19. The prosecutor said detectives determined that Gee sent threatening text messages to the witness on the day the baby was found. The Gloucester-Camden-Salem County Medical Examiner's Office had a post-mortem examination of the baby, but the cause of death can't be determined at this time because of the condition of the body, the news release said. The New Jersey State Police Laboratory confirmed the identity of the baby, who was from Philadelphia, on July 10. The biological parents talked to detectives and confirmed that Gee was caring for the baby for them. Gee was taken into custody on Monday in West Philly and brought to Riverside Correctional Facility pending extradition to New Jersey. Detectives urge anyone with information about the infant's death to contact them immediately. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Matthew Kreidler of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit at (856) 930-5355 and Detective Brandon Bolger of the Camden County Police Department at (609) 519-3981.
