Kussh Sinha reacts to Saiyaara being copied from K-film: Nikita Roy is original

India Today5 days ago
Director Kussh Sinha, brother of actor Sonakshi Sinha, seemingly hinted that 'Saiyaara' might be copied. In an interview, he spoke about the challenges his film 'Nikita Roy' faced at the box office. Released on July 18 alongside 'Tanvi The Great' and 'Saiyaara', his film struggled against the latter's unexpected success.Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, although he refrained from making any direct accusations, the director emphasised that 'Nikita Roy' boasts an original storyline.advertisementSinha said, "The best thing is that 'Nikita Roy' is a completely original story - we haven't borrowed from anyone." He hinted at the plagiarism controversy surrounding 'Saiyaara', directed by Mohit Suri, saying, "There have been talks, but it's not for me to comment. If they have to clarify, that's their responsibility."
Watch the trailer of 'Nikita Roy' here: Sinha also highlighted the difficulties 'Nikita Roy' encountered in securing theatre screens. "We tried to secure more screens for the film, but sometimes a wave comes along and sweeps everything away," he explained. He stated that 'Nikita Roy' retains its presence in theatres due to positive feedback from exhibitors, while 'Tanvi The Great' was pulled from many screens. 'Tanvi The Great' was directed and produced by Anupam Kher, who also acted in the film.Despite facing these challenges, Sinha congratulated the team of 'Saiyaara' for its success. "No one could have predicted such a strong wave. I'm happy that a romantic film led by two newcomers has done so well. Hats off to YRF, and I congratulate them," he remarked.'Saiyaara', which is a love story between an aspiring musician and a writer, has seen remarkable box office success. It has crossed the Rs 250 crore mark in just 11 days at the box office. It is now close to entering the Rs 300 crore club.- Ends

War 2 advance booking opens on disastrous note in US: Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR film fails to sell a ticket for many shows

Over 10 days ahead of its release, the advance booking for YRF's upcoming spy thriller War 2 began in the overseas market. US was the first place where the YRF Spy Universe film started its pre-sales for tickets, looking to bank upon the star power of its two leads - Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. However, the start has not been what Yash Raj Films had hoped. War 2 is a YRF Spy Universe film that stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. War 2 premiere shows in the US Almost a day after pre-sales were opened in the US for War 2, the Telugu version seems to have picked up some pace, but the Hindi version is lagging far behind. A look at some of the major ticketing platforms like Movie For Tickets shows that most of the big theatres screening the Hindi version have not sold a single ticket for the Wednesday premieres. As per trade sources, YRF is releasing War 2 (Hindi) in 900 screens in the US for paid previews. Telugu 360 reported that as of Sunday morning, only 1600 tickets have been sold across those 900 locations, meaning many of the halls are empty. War 2 premiere shows in the US have seen low turnout in the Hindi version (left) but decent occupancy for the Telugu version (right). This could largely be due to an absence of paid preview and Wednesday premiere culture in Hindi cinema, where even fans prefer to watch the film on the first day or first weekend itself. The premiere shows are a rage down south, particularly in Tamil and Telugu cinema, where these shows get good numbers for films featuring the bigger stars. HT has reached out to YRF for a comment on the advance booking trends, but is yet to get a response. The article will be updated if a response is provided. Telugu version fares better Naturally then, the Telugu version is doing much better, banking on Jr NTR's star power. The shows for War 2 (Telugu) already show decent occupancy, and as per reports, the collections have crossed $100k in the US for the Wednesday premiere for this version. However, trade experts note that this, too, is lower than expectations. War 2 needs to cross $1 million in Telugu pre-sales alone to justify its scale of release in the US. All about War 2 War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, is a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War. The film sees Hrithik reprise his role as the superspy Kabir, with Jr NTR joining him as another Indian spy, who is at loggerheads with him. The film also stars Kiara Advani. Part of the YRF Spy Universe, War 2 is releasing on August 14 for the Independence Day weekend.

Anupam Kher Ordered Chicken And Beer With Rs 1 In Hand, Reveals What Happened When He Couldn't Pay Bill

Last Updated: Anupam Kher shares his journey from having just Rs 1 to becoming a respected actor, recalling a humbling moment at a dhaba. Before the accolades, before the international films, and long before he became one of India's most respected actors, Anupam Kher had just Rs 1 in his pocket and a dream bigger than any bill. In a candid chat with News18 Showsha about his new book Different, but No Less, and his recent film, Tanvi The Great, the legendary actor recalled a hilarious (and humbling) moment from his struggling days in Mumbai. 'I remember I went to a dhaba once," he began, launching into a story as vivid as a scene from a film. 'There was a play of mine which came on television, a bit before I got into movies. I had done that play and I was waiting for it to be telecast. I wanted people to see it and say, 'Oh, this is a fantastic actor.' I had, I think, one or one and a half rupees. My brother, a friend, and I went to this dhaba in Hirad Nagar. We ordered one chapati and one dal. That's when the owner came to me and praised me, saying how he had watched my play on Doordarshan and that I would become a big actor. So I got confident and started ordering chicken and beer and all. The bill came to about Rs 97… and I only had Rs 1." What followed was a lesson in reality. 'I told him, 'Main kabhi bada aadmi banunga,' and he replied, 'Beta, tareef apni jagah hai, business apni jagah hai. Paise toh bharne padenge.' So I left my brother and my friend at the restaurant, went to another friend who lived next to Hare Rama Hare Krishna, borrowed Rs 100 from him, and came back. I remember that whole thing so clearly because I used to write about such things funnily." That sense of humour, he says, is what kept him going. 'You laughed at this only because I see life from a comical point of view. It didn't make me feel self-pity. Unfortunately, we don't look at life from a sense of humour. All of those days were difficult. Even if nobody is making you feel small, you do feel small. There are people who are showy, who are different. There are bigger bungalows of so-and-so actors to make you feel small." Kher sees this same spirit reflected in his latest character, Tanvi. 'I think Tanvi is a much purer soul than I am. Tanvi does not know manipulation. Tanvi does not know ambition. Tanvi just does things which she thinks is right. But because Tanvi stems out of me, I'm very happy that there's a possibility that all those qualities I see in her have come from me, that I have possessed them." That idea of embracing one's differences is central to his book as well. 'It's difficult to live in this world. That's why I've tried to portray autism as a superpower. We all have that capability of looking at life in a particular way. But we are constantly made to feel that someone else is doing better than us. That makes us feel small, and inadequate. And it's constantly proven through followers, clothes, social media. On Instagram, nobody's unhappy." He adds, 'Unhappiness is very important for creativity. 'Not okay' is also very important for growth. But we see people constantly happy, and that's such a big thing. I try my level best to be as real as I can." Background Son of Sardaar 2 is currently facing strong competition from Saiyaara, the debut film of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, which has reached Rs 285 crore in India. The original Son of Sardaar, released in 2012, had clashed with Yash Raj Films' Jab Tak Hai Jaan, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Anushka Sharma. Despite the box office face-off, Son of Sardaar had managed to perform well globally.
