You'll be saying "easy peasy lemon squeezy" after zipping your bag shut.
1. A packing checklist so you can avoid running behind schedule as you try to remember that thing you know you're missing — but you can't *quite* put your finger on it. This full, extensive list helps you double-check that you have everything and can help avoid any CVS or Walgreens runs once you land!
Amazon
It has sections for how long your stay is, what the weather will be like, and any ~special~ events (to dress extra special for) that may slip your mind in the heat of packing.
Promising review:"We travel frequently and have two children. As any parent knows, packing for yourself and your children can be overwhelming (especially for a trip longer than a few days). I have found this list to be a lifesaver, and I also give it as a gift for other traveling families. It is easy to plan, organize, and list out items that are easily forgotten. You can also list the quantity of each item needed. It has a variety of clothing options and space to add more. Overall, wonderful purchase and has likely saved me many forgotten items!" — I-really-bought-this
Get it from Amazon for $7+ (available in three colors).
2. Silicone travel bottles to safely bring your face wash, shampoo, conditioner, and any other liquid toiletries through security without your bag getting flagged by TSA. The 3-ounce containers are not only super cute, but they're also more space-efficient and lighter.
PS: It also comes with pre-printed labels and a handy, clear zipper pouch!
Promising review:"Just took a trip to the Dominican Republic and used carry-on luggage only throughout the entire trip, never once was questioned about the size. The bag they are in seems thin, but it worked great to put bottles back in as well as some smaller items fit in the bag, too, like lip gloss, mascara, and such. The holes are big enough to get your product into the bottles without any complications. My fiancé and myself had plenty of shampoo, conditioner, sunblock, and lotion for seven days. Highly recommend these bottles; they are perfect for carry-ons!!" — Stephanie Miller
Promising review: " I had in checked luggage, and they didn't spill or leak, are easy to fill due to the wide mouth, and are easy to dispense. Used for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Much more convenient to fill my own bottles than search for travel sizes or use products I don't prefer!" — Suzanne Edwards
Get a set of four 3-ounce bottles from Amazon for $14.99 (available in a variety of sizes and colors).
3. Or, a set of Cadence containers designed to be TSA-compliant so you can breeze through security with all of your lotions, cleansers, pills, and accessories. The labels, colors, and magnetic sides (that'll compactly hold every "capsule" together) will never make you question if you forgot to pack something again.
It comes in different colors and the labels are customizable.
Check it out on TikTok!
Cadence is an AAPI woman-owned small business that was founded by Steph Hon as a way to eliminate single-use travel-sized plastics. The containers are made from recycled ocean-bound plastic.
BuzzFeed contributor Abby Kass has these and loves them! Here's what she has to say about them:"I recently got a set of four of these, and, wow, I love them so much. I used them on a six-day trip recently, and they were perfect. I customized the label so I knew which one was my shampoo vs. conditioner and did a general label for any other things I wanted to bring along. They do hold a surprising amount. According to the brand, they hold approximately one to two weeks of skincare products, more than two weeks' worth of serum, two to three days' worth of haircare, and more than 15 tablets (for medicine and such). And while two to three days worth of haircare might not seem like enough, I found it held more than that for me, but I also don't wash my hair every single day. They were small enough to slip right into my toiletries bag and go through TSA with no problem. The container was easy to open in the shower (even with wet hands), and I had no leakage from them (like I did from my face wash bottle that will not be making the trip with me next time. SMH). These are an incredibly useful tool anyone who travels will want in their luggage."
Get the daily routine capsule set from Amazon for $138 or a set of seven from Cadence for $161 (available in seven colors and with label customization).
4. A set of compression cubes with a regular zipper to close, and a second zipper to flatten and press out excess air, so you can compactly fit your million outfit changes. Plus, your bag will be less stressful to pack when returning home since it can stay neat the *entire* trip.

Promising review:"Must-have traveling accessory. Best way to pack a suitcase! I'll never go back to stuffing everything in on its own. These compartments held way more than I imagined and kept me organized. I will definitely add more to my collection. Makes a great gift for frequent travelers, too!" — Lisa
Get them from Amazon for $18.95+ (available in 11 sets).
5. Or, for a particularly long stint of travel, vacuum storage bags so you can majorly increase the storage space in your bag — by 80%, to be ~exact~. If your coats, sweaters, or endless clothing options need to somehow magically fit, these will help you!
Former BuzzFeed Shopping editor Jasmin Sandal is a fan: " I swear by these bad boys not only for general storage purposes, but also if I know I'm going to be traveling for an extended period of time. As someone who tends to pack for every eventuality (who doesn't like to be prepared?!), I have learned that it's better to travel with them than without — especially since it's more or less a guarantee that my clothes are gonna take up a ~substantial~ amount of room in my suitcase. And if I can use something that's gonna shrink the size of my bulky hoodies and/or big tees in order for me to create more space, I'm sure as heck gonna do it. Plus, the satisfaction is indeed guaranteed because when you see those chunky layers flatten into a pancake...it's just *chef's kiss*."
Promising review: "We needed to travel for a long trip to Japan, which included two days of skiing, and make all our clothes and gear fit in carry-on luggage. These bags were incredible. They worked well without any issues, and they were able to compress ski pants, gloves, and warm sweaters down to a nearly flat surface. Everyone in our family used at least two in their carry-on bag, and that was what allowed us to pack everything we needed. Each bag worked well repeatedly, as we opened and shut them during the trip. Highly recommend when traveling and space is an issue." — whitnch
Get a six-pack from Amazon for $17.99 (available in four sizes, a variety pack, and a bundle option)
6. A digital luggage scale that'll squash *any* anxiety that your bag is too heavy so you don't have to worry about forking over some money (for that big overweight bag fee) or ripping open your suitcase in front of everyone — with this, you can avoid both!
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
To use, just hook the scale to your luggage handle, lift up, and the LCD display will show the weight! You can also switch between pound and kilogram measurements.
BuzzFeed Shopping editor Elizabeth Lilly put this scale to the test while packing for a trip to Iceland — check out her demo of how it works on TikTok!
Promising review:"Took this for a 10-day trip overseas with lots of flights. Weighed the luggage as things were added to it/purchased, and when we weighed in at the airport, it was perfectly accurate. Very important when the airline charges $70 more for a suitcase that is too heavy or make you open the whole thing up and take stuff out in order to fly with it. Saved so much hassle." — B. M. O'Connor
Get it from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in six colors, as well as a two-pack and another style).
7. A space-saving shoe bag that fits three pairs so you don't throw them on top of your clothes and squish them. This can hold your comfy sneakers, poolside sandals, and slip-on shoes — which is all you need! Plus, this keeps the dirty soles of your shoes separate from all of your clean clothes.
www.amazon.com
You can, of course, just use the one pair of shoes you wear on the plane for the entire trip, *but* if you have a lot of different events (that are casual to fancy) — it's nice to have options!
Promising review:" You can totally fit three pairs of shoes in this! (I wear a women's size 6.5 shoe, and it fits heels, wedges, and sandals.) I bought two and will absolutely be buying more for my husband. 10/10 would recommend! I travel frequently, and I always overpack; this helped cut down space and stress immensely!" — Taylor
Get it from Amazon for $9.99+ (available in nine colors and patterns).
8. A wheeled carry-on bag — it fits everything you need for a short trip, slides under your plane seat, *and* counts as a personal item *cough* Spirit *cough*. This also ~rolls~ so you can say goodbye to that duffel that hurts your shoulder while carrying it!
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Now you won't even have to pull your suitcase out of the overhead!
Promising review: "I've always struggled with how to comfortably travel with an item that maximized packing volume while still qualifying as a personal item. This suitcase fit the bill perfectly. It is highly maneuverable, fits under the seats of all types of aircrafts, holds a tremendous amount of things (for its size), and meets airline requirements for classification as a personal item. I highly recommend this product." — William C
Get it from Amazon for $99.95.
9. A small eight-compartment pill organizer to fit any and all of your pill needs in one lightweight container — meaning that you don't have to stuff six different bottles for one trip into your bag (and possibly get flagged by TSA).
Promising review:"My husband and I travel a lot and take a number of prescription drugs. It was always a hassle accessing our medication when needed, so I purchased this organizer to make things easier. I used a label maker and labeled each little compartment, and it has performed wonderfully. I highly recommend this organizer to anyone who travels and needs medications throughout the day." — Jacqueline
Get a three-pack from Amazon for $8.97 (available in two color packs).
10. A 2-in-1 hair tool so you don't have to pack either your curler or straightener when there's no space left in your bag — you can have both with this! Reviewers swear by it for international travel since it's dual-voltage, so no need to worry that you'll blow up your outlet overseas!
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Promising review:"The international traveler's BFF. Don't be fooled by the tiny price or size, this little baby is serious. If you are looking for a small travel option rather than lugging your big straightener and giant curling iron around the world, then I think you'll love this. It performs really well, turning my frizzy, wavy hair into a smooth and sleek style. The curling iron option also creates shiny, silky lasting curls! It's easy to transition between both. I also like the grippy handle and the fact that the curling iron clip is a different color than the straightening bars because that helps me see how I should be maneuvering it around. The voltage goes up to 240 so you are good using it internationally without a converter (but you will need an adapter just to fit it into various foreign outlets). At this price, definitely give it a try and flaunt your tresses abroad." — Christine
Get it from Amazon for $49.99+ (available in black or white).
11. A mattifying powder dry shampoo for a quick, easy hair touchup that's more convenient to pack than clunky bottles or large aerosol cans. If your luscious locks feel greasy or not as volumized as you want, then this ultra-fine powder can help with both! Just dab the cushiony end on your roots, shake out the product, and style — then you're done!
This is also cruelty-free!
Promising review: "I was looking for a dry shampoo that would be easy to use on the go for a trip I was taking. I had no issues taking this through TSA and it was so easy to use on the go. You literally just pat the poof on your scalp and then rub the powder in. I do have black hair so dry shampoo is usually very visible in my hair, but I didn't have any harder time than usual rubbing this powder in. It did a really good job of soaking up all the oil and giving my hair volume. I'm not a fan of the price for the amount that you get, but it is lasting longer than I thought it would. I would definitely recommend and will purchase again." — Teresa
Get it from Amazon for $14.40 (available in six colors, two-packs, three-packs. There are also refill containers after you run out!).
12. A hanging toiletry bag that'll easily fit all of the toiletries you can't imagine fitting into just *one* zip-up pouch. This has plenty of compartments *and* has transparent windows, so you'll find everything quickly. Plus (!) it won't take up precious bathroom counter space since the built-in hook can hang off a door.
Promising review:"Seriously?! Do you see how much this holds?! Full shampoo bottles, face washes, hair brush... everything I could need or want to bring, FITS IN THIS ONE BAG! And it's so cute! Feels like great quality too — all the hardware came with protective wraps to keep from scratching and the zippers feel very hardy. The hook at the top is also VERY WELL-SECURED to the bag, it's double stitched to the top panel and almost feels like seatbelt material. And I love the extra pockets and netting inside. I would absolutely recommend this!" — mahea_c
Get it from Amazon for $17.99+ (available in seven colors and two sizes).
13. A travel jewelry case if you want your necklaces untangled, rings secure, and earrings neatly organized so you don't have to worry about your fave pieces vanishing into the bottom of your bag.
www.amazon.com, Amazon
Promising review: "I purchased this box for a weekend getaway. In the past I have just thrown all of my jewelry into little makeup bags, but then everything gets tangled and disorganized. I love that this box keeps everything organized and leaves all my necklaces tangle free!" — Dogmom206

www.amazon.com
Promising review:"Best jewelry travel pouch ever. Plenty of room for all my travel jewelry needs. Half the size of previous pouches I have tried and holds more than any of them." — T Rex Mom
Get it from Amazon for $13.59+ (available in two sizes and 10 colors).
15. A Stojo collapsible travel cup so you know you always have a cup on you for caffeine or hydration — without it taking up a bunch of space (it folds into the size of a puck!). This is good for hot *and* iced drinks and has a straw built in.
It's also microwave-safe! Plus, the 12-ounce size does not include a straw, but both the 16-ounce and 24-ounce sizes do.
Stojo is a small biz founded by three New York dads who wanted a better way to get their convenient coffee fix without all the waste. Now they make stylish collapsible essentials in a variety of sizes and colors, including bottles and food storage containers.
BuzzFeed Shopping editor Danielle Healy has this and loves it. She writes: "This is of the first zero-waste swaps I made and I've never looked back. If you buy to-go coffee – whether you're jet-setting or just grabbing a mid-day pick-me-up — this cup is a must-have. So long as you remember to bring it, it's all the convenience of to-go coffee with none of the waste. It's leakproof and, when you're all done, it collapses down teeny tiny and can be tossed back in your bag. Oh! And it comes with a straw, so all you iced coffee lovers can get in on the action, too."
Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in four sizes, 28 colors, and with or without a straw).
16. A charger organizer that's much better than just throwing them all in your personal item and calling it a day (which is me, I fear). You can neatly organize all of your cords *and* slip in any other small travel or tech gadgets into the zip-up pocket.
Mister Crafter is a small business that creates handmade, personalizable travel products, wallets, and accessories made from 100% top-quality genuine cowhide leather.
Promising review:"I bought this for my husband before a trip and he loved it! The quality and durability were obvious the moment I took it out of the box. Definitely recommend this company and product." — Maureen Murphy-Weiss
Get it from Mister Crafter on Etsy for $31.84+ (originally $79.60+; available in two sizes and two colors; personalization also available).
17. A comfy Trtl neck pillow — the ergonomic design gives you the support you're looking for while sleeping upright without the hassle of packing or carrying around a big neck pillow. It's slimmer and more compact, which is perfect if you already over-stuffed your personal item!
Amazon
It also easily attaches to backpacks and luggage handles, weighs less than half a pound, and is machine washable!
Promising review: " This is by far the best travel pillow I've ever used and this is my second one since I accidentally left my old one on the plane! I've travelled all over the world and this is the best and most comfortable support out there. It does get a little warm but usually the long flights are chilly so it's kind of nice. Buy one - you'll love it!" — SWB
Get it from Amazon for $64.99+ (available in five colors).
18. A refillable travel perfume atomizer so your fave scents can come on the trip with you without lugging around a huge bottle. Just pour your perfume into this secure (non-leaking) spritzer with the included funnel and you're set.
Amazon
Promising review: "These are an amazing invention. I needed to pack my cologne for a trip to Punta Cana and these were perfect! It holds a lot more than you think and it has the perfect spray!" — Jonathan Tomenendal

19. A 40-count set of laundry soap sheets so you can pack less and save some room by outfit repeating — without sacrificing hygiene! Just add these to your sink with some water and get to cleaning.
Amazon
Promising review: "Bought for when we travel. Easy to pack, easy to use, and don't have to worry about liquid leaking. They dissolve in seconds and leave the clothes clean and fresh. Very pleased. And can cut to size for hand washing 2 or 3 items." — SH
Get it from Amazon for $6.99+ (available in four sizes and eight scents).
20. A bungee cord — now you can pack your carry-on with as much heavy stuff as you like, because no matter the weight, this can safely hold it on your roller bag without any worries it'll plop onto the ground. Even as you walk (or run) to your gate, your duffel, handbags, and coats will be all set for take-off.
Promising review:"Don't know how I traveled without this piece of basic equipment, but it is a third hand and arm when you need it most. Easy to put into action, easy to put away when you are finished. For instance...I need a heavy coat outside the airport or conference center, but inside, it is a pain in the neck to carry and store while seated. I fold that big garment in half and attach it to my roll-around with this bungee, and the coat stays out of the way, stays clean, and is accessible. If you are tired of dealing with excess stuff while traveling, or you are in school/work and need to carry a coat around or a project around all day, then this is the go-to solution. What are you waiting for... put this in your cart!" — Patrick Molina
Get it from Amazon for $13.99+ (available in two colors).
21. Or a convenient luggage strap so you won't be overwhelmed with the amount of stuff you have to carry — just attach it to the handle of your bag so you have an extra hand that doesn't get sore from lugging around another thing. It'll securely hang off the back as you stroll through the airport!
Amazon
Promising review:"Saw this in an article about travel items and decided to get it for a trip overseas. So glad I did — the forecast said rain so I packed my rain jacket only to find hot sunny skies. Rather than tie this around my waist and have it fall or get in the way, I wadded it up and used this strap to attach it to my bag. The strap is adjustable so you can get a tight fit. Carried my coat for me. Would also work to attach a bag to a suitcase, water bottle to a purse, etc. So many uses, just get it and try it out. Really helpful and handy little travel item." — David Shaughnessy
Get it from Amazon for $8.49+ (available in six colors and in sets of two).
22. An international travel adapter that covers you in Europe, Asia, and Australia, so you don't need to buy a bunch of different adapters for your trip. This can charge up to four devices at once, making this ideal for traveling light — all you'll need to bring are the cords.
www.amazon.com
Ceptics is a small business that specializes in tech products for international travel.
Promising review:"LOVE this adapter! I travel from time to time internationally and have always used just the 'standard' adapters found in airports. Exceeded my expectations of what it was capable of. Used on a recent trip to Germany, and it handled everything needed — laptop, cell phone (USB ports are so very welcome), alarm clock, dryer, etc. Did not miss a beat on the power provided. Thank you for making such a great, dependable product!" — Monkey
Get it from Amazon for $19.99 (available in dozens of other styles depending on the countries you're heading for!).
23. Solgaard's brilliant Carry-On Closet with a six-tier pop-out shelving system that can compress and organize all of your daily 'fits — *and* you don't have to unpack from your suitcase because it really does double as a closet! The price is steep, but the carry-on feature pays for itself if you stop checking a bag altogether.
Solgaard
Its lining is made with plastic from coastal communities that otherwise could have ended up in the ocean! The smaller size is accepted as a carry-on by all international airlines, including European budget ones, while the larger one meets all US airline standards.
Promising review:"Great design that allows me to organize everything I need in much less space than I ever expected. Take your time to select and pack your things thoughtfully, and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much you can get into this carry-on. I have several pieces of luggage in different sizes, and I'm giving them away because this is all I need. The size and versatility make it the perfect carry-on." — Michelle C.
Get it from Solgaard for $285+ (available in two sizes and eight colors).
24. An all-new, waterproof Kindle Paperwhite so you can stuff your bag to the brim with new books *and* add less than a pound of weight to your bag. You can forget the days of carefully picking which paperbacks you want on a trip, when you can just bring all of them loaded on your Kindle!
This new version has 25% faster page turns and a glare-free display! Plus, a single charge lasts up to 12 weeks.
Promising review: " I always have my Kindle Paperwhite with me when traveling or just sitting at the beach to read. Recently, we traveled to a tropical wedding destination, I was sitting by the pool reading when my daughter's boyfriend sat down with his book and said he was almost finished reading it, he was complaining that he wanted to bring more, but they would be too heavy. I showed him my Kindle and said that I loaded five books into it for the trip, he was was very interested and amazed after I let him play with it. So now, he's getting one for Christmas." — Steve M.
Get it from Amazon for $159.99 (available in three colors and with or without Kindle Unlimited or Ads).
25. Alleyoop's Pen Pal — a 4-in-1 pen to do your lip liner, brows, eyeliner, *and* highlighter. If your toiletries bag is already overflowing, this can still give you all of your beauty needs while traveling (without taking up precious room). Idk about you, but it's making me nostalgic for my 5-in-1 pen from elementary school.
Alleyoop is a woman-owned small biz that specializes in easy-to-use, time- and space-saving products with different uses to simplify your beauty routine.
Former BuzzFeed Shopping writer Jasmin Sandal says, "I didn't realize I'd ever use a makeup product in my 20s that had the ability to transport me back to a piece of stationery I used in sixth grade, but here we are; and here I am using a multitool pen...for my face. I gotta say, I love the concept of the Pen Pal from Alleyoop! After using all of the functions (eyeliner, highlighter, lip liner, eyebrow pencil) and as someone who LOVES makeup but was applying as little as humanly possible during lockdown, I think it's a great tool for anyone looking to streamline their routine. It's ideal to use for touch-ups come the end of the work day, or a subtle, minimalist way to apply makeup in the a.m. The brow pencil is particularly soft and pigmented, and filled in my eyebrows quickly. I just adore the ease of application of each product, and appreciate the universal, does-it-all-for-you concept. Plus, it saves me so much room in my already-overflowing makeup bag!"
Get it from Amazon for $20 or direct from Alleyoop for $15 (available in three shades).
26. A plush microfiber makeup-removing cloth to pack instead of your disposable makeup remover wipes — *this* is more compact, cheaper, gentler on your skin, more eco-friendly, and only requires water.
Reviewers say it's like the famous Makeup Eraser, but *this* is cheaper!
Note that this is best if you're staying in one place for the entire trip — one of our editors traveled to several hotels in one trip with this cloth and noted that didn't allow enough time for it to dry out for the next use.
Promising review: "This is incredible! I can't believe how well this works! I travel a lot for work and usually take makeup remover wipes because of the liquid restrictions for travel, but they are expensive and heavy. I have been using this cloth all week and LOVE IT! A bit of warm water and everything comes off in a few easy swipes. I am super excited to travel with this. It weighs nothing and rolls up to take very little space. I am ordering another for my mom who also travels. Highly recommend!" — KT
Get it from Amazon for $6.99+ (available in seven colors, packs of three, and a seven pack).
27. A Hackwith Design House shirt that'll cut down on a couple of tops since you can style it six different ways. You'll sneakily outfit repeat *and* save room in your bag in the process!
Hackwith Design House is a woman-owned small business. Their sustainable designs are made to order and sewn in their Minnesota studio. Their sizes run from XS–4X. On Mondays, they also release limited-edition designs so you can be one of only 25 people to own a piece!
BuzzFeed editor Chelsea Stuart owns this and loves it. Here's what she has to say: "All credit for its discovery goes to TikToker @jennifer.bianca who I happened to stumble across on my FYP. It checks all my boxes: black, comfortable, versatile, and durable. My initial worry was that I wouldn't feel secure in it (I have a 38DDD chest and most wrap tops/dresses I've tried haven't stayed where they're supposed to), but I haven't had an issue with this! I've worn it tied in the front giving me a square neck (like the middle picture) and tied in the back giving me a V-neck up front (just like the photo on the right) — both were super comfortable and I didn't have to adjust myself at all. As someone whose weight fluctuates, I also appreciate that this piece can handle pounds gained and lost. The fabric is medium weight so I'll be wearing it season to season and there's just enough elasticity in the arms that if you roll up your sleeves, they won't fall back down. All that is to say trust that I will be buying additional colors!"
Get it from Hackwith Design House for $145 (available in women's sizes XS–4X and in three colors).
28. An adorable Gillette Venus travel razor, your new go-to on trips because it's light and easy to store — *and* it does the same thing as your full-sized razor anyways. You'll have baby-smooth skin in no time.
It comes with a little carrying case, and one blade lasts for up to 30 days!
Promising review: "I am a minimalist, so for me, the less the better, but you do need the essentials, especially when traveling abroad. This little mini razor came in so handy. You hardly even know it's in your toiletry bag; it's so small, but big enough to get a good grip and shave. I always bring this little razor with me whenever I travel. I love the compact size. Highly recommend as a space-saver when traveling." — Deb H.
Get it from Amazon for $10.79 (also available in a pack with three refills).
29. A water-resistant Neutrogena SPF 50 face and body stick sunscreen for a stress-free security process since this is a solid — your bag won't get flagged by security *and* you'll be ready to take on the sun as soon as you land. No mess, no white cast, and easy reapplication? Sign me up.
Amazon
BuzzFeed Shopping editor Elizabeth Lilly used this: "I first bought this for a weeklong Croatian vacation two years ago when I did carry-on, and as long as you are *thoroughly* reapplying, this stuff stays on pretty well. On a beach club afternoon, I did haphazardly reapply and missed a strip on one arm, but I tend to do that with spray-on or lotion sunscreen, too. Since then, I've packed this for any trip I've been on, including a two-day Disneyland trip where I toted this around in my bag and shared with friends. I sometimes carry it with me in my purse on my everyday adventures because I know it's so easy to apply. Also worth mentioning...I am about the palest lady you've ever seen and swear by daily application of sunscreen. But when on a beach trip, I'm constantly swimming in the water and sweating. So, yeah, this stuff works. And if you're a bit hesitant about jumping on the solid sunscreen bandwagon, you can pack a stick of this, knowing you have enough sun protection to get you through to finding some spray-on or lotion SPF at your destination."

Amazon Has a Customizable Cabin Kit With Stunning, Floor-to-ceiling Windows—and Is Only $16K
Amazon isn't just a one-stop destination for travel accessories and camping gear; the online retailer has also expanded into do-it-yourself cabin kits that are easy to build and offer overnight guests more privacy than a spare bedroom. The site's outdoor storage and housing store offers an array of ready-to-build cabins, including this resort-inspired unit from Allwood Outlet that offers stunning floor-to-ceiling windows and costs less than $20,000. Once fully built, the layout is completely open, allowing you to turn the space into whatever you want (unlike many tiny houses that come with a pre-determined layout). Robin Pekkala, an Allwood Outlet brand representative, told Travel + Leisure to think of the structures as additional space outside of your home that can be transformed into a guest cottage, pool house, art studio, yoga room, home office space, or even a music studio. The Bonaire cabin kit caught our eye for its modern, rectangular shape that takes inspiration from vacation resort cabins. It features clean-cut lines and floor-to-ceiling windows that create a sun-drenched space in the 225-square-foot interior (that's larger than some NYC studio apartments). The spruce wood kit arrives unpainted, giving you the choice to keep it natural or add a pop of color. It also includes the essentials: wall boards, floor boards, joists, roof rafters, boards for the structure, windows, doors, screws and nails, handles for the windows, and locks for the doors. From there, you'll be able to use the space however you want and make any adjustments to fit your needs, like adding insulation and plumbing, installing waterproofing on the roof, and putting up more walls to craft separate rooms. Instead of getting a pre-determined layout, the power is in your hands to use the space how you see fit. One cabin owner transformed their Bonaire Cabin Kit into an Airbnb, which the brand posted on Instagram. They fit a bed, two chairs, and a coffee table in one area of the space, and they added a kitchenette and a separate bathroom. If you like this layout but want to see additional DIY cabin kits, check out a few more styles below, also available at Amazon. Courtesy of Amazon You can score this studio layout cabin kit with tall windows for less than $10,000. It has a total square footage of 172, making it ideal for a home office, guest bedroom, or game room. Plus, the kit comes with a spacious porch, complete with two wood slat walls for privacy. The Timberline kit gives you even more space for less than $50,000. It offers about 354 square feet of space where you can build a separate bedroom, living area, bathroom, and front porch. The Mayflower cabin kit is ready to bring your 'Little House on the Prairie' dreams to life with its Western wagon design. Included with the base structure are wheels, parts for the stairs, and flower boxes to add some curb appeal to the exterior. Since it only measures about 16-by-8 feet, it could work as a garden house, kids' hangout area, or home office. Love a great deal? I left my job in tech and moved to Spain. Being alone in a foreign country is hard, but it's changed me for the better.
This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Parrie Hartley, 30, who moved from Austin to Barcelona in February 2025. The conversation has been edited for length and clarity. I'm from a really small town outside of Houston, where there are not a lot of employment opportunities. I've always been a city girl at heart, so in 2020, after a brief stint living in Australia, I moved to Austin and started working in software sales. Austin's tech scene is booming. Many, like big corporations, like Amazon, Tesla, and Meta, have opened offices there, bringing with them a lot of jobs. Moving there definitely built my career and made me a lot of money. Living in the city was awesome, too. It's a great place for young people, with an amazing culture, food, and music scene. There are a lot of events, and I definitely made some really great friends there. In May 2024, the startup company I was working for started making layoffs. By then, I had already started thinking about leaving Austin. I had been in the city for five years and was itching for a change. Everything in my life was perfect on paper, but I still missed adventure. I've always been very curious about the world, and I really do think I'm the best version of myself when traveling. At the time, I was 29 and single. I had no husband, job, children, or pets. My parents were healthy, so I didn't really have anything tying me down. I decided, "Why don't I move abroad?" A student visa was my ticket to Spain I had been working in sales, so I had built up quite a bit in savings. But once I decided to move, I sold everything — furniture, clothes, anything that I could get money from. In Austin, I lived alone in a 1,100-square-foot apartment on the East Side, downtown, and paid $1,800 monthly on rent. To save money, I moved back to my hometown and started picking up some shifts at a local boutique. I considered a lot of different places to move abroad. I had already lived in Australia, so I checked that off the list. I'd also been to Asia, which I enjoyed, but I felt that living there might have been too much of a culture shock. So, I began researching visa options for Europe. One option was a student visa, which I discovered could be obtained by enrolling in a language school. The visa was available in Portugal, Spain, and Italy. As a Texan, I didn't feel a strong need to learn Portuguese or Italian. I had also visited Spain when I was 22, during a backpacking trip with friends to Barcelona, and had a great time. I figured that if I moved there, I could learn Spanish and be close to the other European countries I wanted to visit. It took about four weeks to organize all of my paperwork for the visa. I had to obtain an FBI background check, get a medical clearance from a doctor, show proof of health insurance, and submit my bank statements to show that I had sufficient funds in my account. In the end, everything came together, and my visa was approved just three days before my flight to Spain in February. I got lucky finding housing I attend a Spanish language school called Expanish in Spain. I have classes five days a week, four hours a day. The course lasts 40 weeks, with eight weeks of holiday included. I paid $6,800 in total. I live in a neighborhood pretty close to the Church of La Sagrada Família , which is not only the most famous building in Barcelona, but possibly in all of Spain. Since I'm in such a central area, there are a lot of tourists and markets around, but the area itself is still fairly quiet. My building is between three major metro stations. Figuring out the metro was initially a challenge for me as an American, but it turned out to be super easy. I feel safe walking there day or night because the area has low crime. I got really lucky finding an apartment through a rental website called Idealista. They matched me with a couple, and I'm paying €600 ($686) for my room. I pay €10 ($11) a month for WiFi, plus water and electricity, which adds another €40 ($46) a month. The apartment is around 753 square feet and came fully furnished, which was great. We have air conditioning, but unfortunately, it doesn't reach my room, which is rough in the summer. It's easy to make friends in Barcelona Meeting people in Barcelona is easy, and the people are very warm and welcoming. The city is filled with people from all over the world. Most are away from their families, here for a year or two, so eventually, you end up creating your own little family. Often, making friends is as simple as going out and striking up a conversation — if you hear someone speaking English, you just start talking. I've met plenty of people through my language school, though it tends to be a revolving door since it's a temporary program, and most students are only around for three or four months. Outside of school, I've built friendships through Bumble BFF. I also joined a volleyball league when I first got here, and I play regularly. I haven't ventured onto the dating apps just yet. I'm 30, and I do want to build toward a relationship, but I feel like I need to get my life a bit more together first. That said, I'm definitely having fun meeting people. I've met guys from Brazil, the Netherlands, and Colombia — it's been a really fun mix. Honestly, it feels a bit like being a kid in a candy store. Moving here was the right choice for my future Most of my time here has been really positive. I spend a lot of time at the beach, and I'm walking up to 20,000 steps a day. You can really see the difference in my face. I've also been traveling. In July, I visited Menorca, one of the Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain. My round-trip flight was only €40 ($45.72). I just packed a backpack with bikinis and went. This month, I'm also heading to Mallorca because I scored free tickets to the Love Island UK finale. Right now, I earn money tutoring both kids and adults in English during after-school hours. I'm also helping my cousin, a lawyer in Texas, with some administrative work. My current visa is valid for one year and will expire in early February 2026. I'd love to stay longer, so I'm exploring the option of applying for a digital nomad visa. It's available in several European countries and essentially allows you to live and work remotely, as long as you meet certain income requirements and have health insurance. As for moving back to the US, I don't plan on it, at least not if I don't have to. Of course, there are cultural challenges that come with living abroad, especially in a place where you don't know the language or the people. I also miss my family, and get a little sad when I miss family events or big moments in their lives and can't be there in person. But I've come to realize that life keeps moving — both for them and for me. My motto is: you choose your hard. For me, marriage and raising a child right now would be difficult. For someone else, it might be moving overseas alone without knowing the language. But that's the kind of hard I'd gladly choose any day.

32 Travel Essentials To Improve Your TSA Experience
A five-year Global Entry membership that'll *also* include TSA PreCheck for when you're getting out of Dodge. It'll seriously shorten your security line times and end up being a great value if you get out of the country at least once a year and fly domestically a few times annually. (This combo is $42 more than five years of a first-time application for PreCheck alone.) Cheers to your full breakfast spread you'll be eating post-security while others are in the regular line, taking off their shoes (ick). And f you really wanna go the distance (metaphorically, not in the security line), also sign up for Clear Plus. It's much pricier than Global Entry/TSA PreCheck ($209/one year vs. $120/five years), but it'll help you zip to the front of the line — even past the TSA PreCheck folks. IMO, it's worth it if your credit card covers the cost (mine does!). A packing list pad so you can rest assure that you DID bring everything you intended, including which things you wanna include in your carry-on and which things you wanna check. A Carhartt backpack with a dedicated pocket that'll fit up to a 17-inch laptop so when you've gotta pull your computer out at airport security you can do it in one quick move instead of taking it out of your backpack and then a zippered holder. Or a vegan-leather travel tote for anyone who'd rather fool with a shoulder bag that'll still hold basically everything you'd need on board your flight. Simply reach in and pull out that laptop or toiletries bag you've gotta put out in the tray. Plus, a handbag organizer with LOTS of pockets to help you easily track down your ID, a pouch to take off those giant earrings before going through security, that half-drunk bottle of water you've gotta toss, and just about anything else you'll need to take out and put in a tray. A garment and travel bag set can cover you when you've gotta keep your outfit for your college roommate's wedding festivities tidy and wrinkle-free, and you have trust issues with airline baggage checks. It'll easily fold and unfold as you need it. A hard-shell roller suitcase with a pocket on the front for your laptop to make getting through the TSA line much more effortless and then resting assured that it's safe in the overhead. Plus! It's equipped with TSA-approved locks! Or a wheeled carry-on bag small enough to qualify as a personal item on super stringent airlines. It can fit underneath an airplane seat! You can avoid checking a bag, glide through security, *and* don't have to hurt your shoulder by carrying a duffel bag that'd also fit strict bag measurement policies. A weekender bag that'll easily slide over the handle of your wheeled suitcase in case you're in the market for a new personal item. (It'll also fit under an airplane seat according to reviewers.) A simple luggage strap can hold your essentials like a travel pillow, jacket, personal item, and more as you scoot along through the airport and once you land. Here's to quickly gathering all your stuff post-screen and freeing up those hands! Or a travel belt can help you easily secure your personal item (aka, a large purse or backpack) to the top of your rolling bag. See, getting through airport security *can* be a cinch. (Sorry.) A trifold travel wallet so all your important documents are in one place and you're not wearily holding up the line when it comes time to show the TSA agent your passport and boarding pass. A collapsible silicone water bottle that'll make sure you stay hydrated (drink water on that flight!) without making you sacrifice other things in your bag or running the risk of leaving water in your bottle as you go through security. Pedialyte powder packets because yes you are a grown-ass adult, but sometimes you indulge a little too much or haven't been hydrating properly and could use some electrolytes. I always pack these for trips and have never regretted it. And they're much tastier than electrolyte tablets you dilute in water. Go through security FULLY hungover knowing you can fill up your water bottle with this *right* after. An I Dew Care "Tap Secret" mattifying powder shampoo that'll tackle greasy roots without the aerosol or benzene formula. Cheers to skipping a morning wash for an early still being able to carry on some dry shampoo without making room for it in your toiletries bag. A solid hair conditioner bar (you won't have to put in your toiletries bag for TSA) so you aren't stuck with the subpar hotel conditioner for all your exotic photo ops. A pack of insect-repellent wipes that'll be easier to keep on you at all times than a bottle of liquid. And, you guessed it, can be tucked in your luggage anywhere because it's not a liquid that has to fit in with your toiletries! I keep mine in a side packet on my backpack. Or a set of DEET-free handy mosquito-repelling bracelets in case the thought of putting something else on your skin (like smelly bug repellent) sounds like a total nightmare. A makeup-removing cloth to gently help erase the day instead of dirtying up hotel washcloths with your waterproof mascara OR adding to your "wet" toiletries bag. A TSA-friendly toiletries set you can easily fill, clean, and then refill with your go-to regular products. And the bag is sturdy as HECK. Or if you're not in need of containers, a clear TSA-approved toiletry bag to help you Lego-fit all your liquid and spreadable bbs in there with ease. A set of three Cadence containers that are magnetized and'll stick together in your toiletries bag. They're super sturdy, leak-proof, and even work great for a few days' worth of vitamins or holding small jewelry. They've quickly become one of my packing go-tos. Tide sink packets with the perfect amount of detergent for a sink wash to help lighten your clothing load. Plus! These'll easily slide into the toiletries bag that you thought had no. more. room. Can you tell I love a packet/wipe sitch?! A Vanicream clinical strength anti-perspirant that'll be perfect for people with sensitive skin who sometimes get irritated when they switch to a solid deo for trips when they carry-on only. (It me!) As someone with *very* sensitive skin who's broken out from a rash before on a weeklong vacation, this stuff works just as well as my other clinical strength-level deodorants that are push-up gel and, therefore, need to be checked. A *solid* Neutrogena SPF 50 sunscreen can really stick to your skin on your tropical (or just plain sweaty) vacation. Oh, and because it's a solid, it's carry-on–friendly! Plus, a SPF 50 Airy Sunstick Smoothing Bar will be a quick K-beauty sun fix you can safely throw in your bag and then reapply on the go. It has a slightly curved bar for easier application (like in the GIF!) and matte effect, and won't leave a white cast in its wake. An electronics organizer with a place for just about every one of *your* and every member of your family's devices and corresponding cables so you don't get everything tangled up while placing items in the security line trays. Or a 30-pack of waterproof zippered pouches to help you organize a variety of things. Parents in the reviews rave about using these to get their family organized for travel. And because these are transparent, you can easily sift around in your carry-on to track down what you need to put in a security bin and push aside what can stay in your bag. A pair of super comfortable pull-on Levi's jeans you can wear on your flight and then also throughout your trip. Cheers to looking more put-together than the folks who obviously came in their PJ pants. Also, no loose fabric means less of a likelihood of weird stuff showing up on your body scan. A set of compression bags if you're not beholden to carry-on weight limits. (V much more of a thing for European flying these days) and tend to overpack. Here's your sweet spot ;). And in the event that security has to go through your bag (it happens!), this'll make it a bit easier for them to sort through your stuff. Or a set of packing cubes you can use over and over again without having to remember to pack a pump for sucking out the air. Then in case your suitcase gets pulled at security, the TSA agent can sift around your cubes instead of a loose pile of underwear that've seen better days.
