Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach fades late, misses cut at PGA Tour's ISCO Championship
The 16-year-old from Jacksonville Beach couldn't hold on in his third PGA Tour start as an amateur.
Russell bogeyed four of his last eight holes and finished with a 73 and a 36-hole total of 3-over 143, two shots off the 1-over cut.
Russell had to birdie one of the last three holes to make the weekend but two-putted for par at Nos. 16 and 17 and missed the 18th fairway to the left, forcing him to gouge a shot out of heavy rough and under the branches of a tree.
It came up about 30 yards short of the hole and needing to hit that in the jar to make the cut, he sent the shot past the flag and into the fringe on the other side. Russell had 30 feet for par, sent a chip 9 feet past the hole and made that for bogey.
Russell was trying to become the second First Coast teenager to make a cut on the PGA Tour this summer. Tyler Mawhinney of Fleming Island made the cut and tied for 65th
Miles Russell was in good shape through 11 holes
Russell bogeyed his first hole but played steady after that with seven pars and tap-in birdies on the two par-5 holes, Nos. 7 and 10.
Russell got up and down from off the green for both of his short birdie putts and made three par putts on the front nine between 6 and 8 feet.
His troubles began with a three-putt for bogey at No. 11. Russell failed to make par after hitting into the left bunker at the par-3 13th hole and into the back fringe at the par-4 15th, missing putts of 11 and 6 feet.
Russell had putts of 21 feet at No. 16 and 33 feet at No. 17 for birdie.
What were Miles Russell's stats in the second round?
He hit 7 of 14 fairways for the second day in a row and after finding the putting surface in seven of his first nine holes, he hit only two more the rest of the round, for 11 of 18. Russell needed 31 putts.
Has Miles Russell made the cut in a pro event?
Russell made the cut in his first professional tournament at the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour LECOM Suncoast Open in Lakewood Ranch. He was the youngest player to ever make the cut in a Korn Ferry Tour event.
He's played three more Korn Ferry events and three PGA Tour events in all without making another cut. But he's played overall, with a 70.56 stroke average in 16 rounds, with 11 rounds of par or lower.
What's next for Miles Russell
Russell is scheduled to play in the U.S. Junior Amateur July 21-26 at the Trinity Forest Golf Club near Dallas.

After caddie change that 'wasn't my choice,' Kurt Kitayama teams with bro for 3M win
Kurt Kitayama's three-shot victory Sunday at the 3M Open marked his second career PGA Tour win. It was his first alongside his older brother, Daniel. Daniel Kitayama, who has caddied off and on for his brother over the years, picked up the bag for the first time this season at last week's Barracuda Championship, which was Kurt's first event after splitting with his previous caddie, Tim Tucker. And as Tucker worked spot duty for his old boss, Bryson DeChambeau, at this week's LIV U.K. event, Daniel was looping a second straight week for little bro. 'You know, the caddie change wasn't my choice actually,' Kitayama said Sunday evening, 'and so I had to find someone that I knew, I had to find someone that I trusted, and my brother's been on the bag before. We won twice in Europe. He's always been around me at tournaments and whenever he can, so I figured that was going to be the best fit to finish the season.' Kurt Kitayama was T-4 at the John Deere Classic, his last tournament with Tucker on the bag, before tying for 14th in Tahoe. Tucker was filling in for DeChambeau's regular caddie, Greg Bodine, and told Golfweek that after this week, 'I will see what opportunities there are in the caddie world.' DeChambeau was T-11 on Sunday. Said Kurt of Daniel: 'He helped me stay calm out there, make good decisions, and yeah, just helps having family on the bag.' Kitayama's win moved him to No. 53 in FedExCup points, so with one regular-season tournament left, he's guaranteed to qualify for the playoff opener, the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.

Braves put Grant Holmes on injured list and acquire pitcher Erick Fedde in trade with Cardinals
Associated Press ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Every member of Atlanta's opening-day rotation is injured, so the Braves swung a trade Sunday to bring in a new starter. Atlanta acquired right-hander Erick Fedde and cash from the St. Louis Cardinals for a player to be named or cash. To clear a spot for Fedde on the 40-man roster, the Braves transferred pitcher Grant Holmes to the 60-day injured list — hours after placing him on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation. With the news involving Holmes, all five starters who broke camp with the club are on the 60-day injured list. Atlanta (44-60) lost 8-1 at Texas on Sunday and has dropped five in a row, falling 12 games behind in the NL wild-card race. 'We're going to figure out a way to piece this thing together,' manager Brian Snitker said. 'That's all you can do 'cause the games aren't going to stop because we lost our rotation.' Holmes was replaced on the active roster by reliever Daysbel Hernandez, who was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett. The 32-year-old Fedde is 3-10 with a 5.22 ERA in 20 starts this season and has lost his last seven decisions. He has made at least 27 starts in each of the past four seasons. Atlanta has five starters on the 60-day injured list. The problems began during the first week of the season with right-hander Reynaldo Lopez, who went on the IL on March 29 with shoulder inflammation following one start, resulting in surgery. Right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver has been sidelined since May 29 with an elbow strain that required Tommy John surgery. Ace lefty Chris Sale fractured his rib cage diving to field a grounder June 21 against the New York Mets. And right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach broke his elbow July 2. Throw in Holmes, and those five have made 63 combined starts this season. 'We're professional,' Snitker said. 'We're getting paid to do this. We signed a contract. So every day, we're going to go out and give it our best shot and win the game.' ___ AP MLB: recommended Item 1 of 3
