Though Honda has thus far refused to fully confirm a Prelude Type R, today we learn the base car is already up to the challenge. That's because Honda has fully confirmed its new hybrid coupe – that's not a crossover, yay! – will deploy the Civic Type R's unique 'dual-axis' suspension setup.
It will also inherit the Civic Type R's wider front and rear tracks, and Brembo front brake system. It's the first time a non-Type R Honda has been treated to Type R goodies, and – as we found out on a prototype drive – bodes well for the resurrected nameplate.

'The suspension and brake systems will be tuned exclusively for the new Prelude to deliver a sporty yet comfortable grand touring driving experience,' said Honda.
Dual-axis was first introduced in the 2017 FK8 Civic Type R – a car we awarded Hot Hatch of the Year – and was subsequently carried over to the FL5 Civic Type R – a car we awarded [cue Ali voice] The Greatest Of All Times.
In short, it works to kill torque steer in powerful front-drive cars. To get technical, Honda added a damper fork to separate the knuckle from the damper, to shorten the centre offset. That's the key. 'With conventional strut suspension, centre offset is structurally difficult to reduce, and has been a problem for many years,' Honda explained.
So killing that meant the Type R gets more stability during 'sudden take-off or acceleration'. And with 320 horsies to play with in the Civic Type R, there's plenty of 'sudden take-off or acceleration'. Better grip through corners, of course.

What does this mean for a harder, more track-focused Prelude? Honda has thus far refused to fully confirm a Prelude Type R, but slotting in its sibling's brilliant suspension means it's already up to the challenge…

Legendary car brand pulls out of country forever as it shuts massive engine factory in move to rival Tesla
A LEGENDARY car brand has called it quits in one of the world's biggest automotive markets, shutting down a major factory and ending local production for good. The firm has officially pulled out of China after decades of operations, closing its joint engine venture and handing over its factory to a domestic rival as it pivots towards electric vehicles. SAME, which began producing engines in 1998, supplied not only Mitsubishi vehicles but also powertrains for a host of Chinese automakers. It will now operate under a new name: Shenyang Guoqing Power Technology Co., Ltd. Mitsubishi said it has: "terminated its engine business operation at Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi Motors Engine Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, SAME) in China and has terminated the joint venture partnership. "Established in August 1997, SAME began engine production in 1998 and has played a key role in China's expanding automotive market by supplying engines not only to Mitsubishi-branded vehicle manufacturers, but also to numerous Chinese automakers. " However, in response to the rapid transformation of China's automotive industry, Mitsubishi Motors has reassessed its strategy in the region and has decided to terminate its participation in the joint venture." Mitsubishi's relationship with China stretches back to 1973, when it began shipping mid-sized vehicles to the market. At one point in the early 2000s, its engines powered nearly 30 per cent of cars built in the country. But as China's car industry turned sharply toward new energy vehicles (NEVs), demand for traditional engines plummeted. In 2012, Mitsubishi joined forces with Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) and Mitsubishi Corporation to launch GAC Mitsubishi. The joint venture saw strong early success, especially with the Outlander SUV, which pushed sales to 144,000 units in 2018. But it didn't last - sales crashed to just 33,600 vehicles by 2022. By the following year, Mitsubishi shut down local production and, in 2024, exited the market entirely. GAC has since taken over the plant and turned it into a production base for its EV brand, Aion. Industry analysts say Mitsubishi's retreat is just the latest in a broader trend. Foreign carmakers are losing ground in China as homegrown brands surge ahead in the electric vehicle market. GAC-FCA, a joint venture with Fiat Chrysler, also folded under similar pressures. Mitsubishi says the decision is part of a strategic shift as it focuses on electrification and more competitive global markets. But in China, the brand that once powered nearly a third of the country's cars is now just a memory. The collapse of its Chinese business is a blow for the brand, which had hoped to hold on in the world's biggest car market. But with EV start-ups popping up at lightning speed and government backing for green tech, Mitsubishi simply couldn't keep up. The factory closure also means job losses for hundreds of local workers, with some fearing they'll struggle to find work in an industry moving away from fossil fuels. One former worker said: 'We saw the writing on the wall last year. EVs are the future, and we weren't part of that plan anymore.' It's a bitter end for a brand once considered a key player in Chinese motoring. Now, it's packing up — leaving behind empty factories, lost jobs and a name that once meant something on Chinese roads. The Sun has approached Mitsubishi for comment. Iconic car brand 'on brink of collapse' as 'bosses warn company has just 12 months to survive' ONE of the world's largest car manufacturers reportedly could go under within 12 months if it doesn't receive support. The firm is looking to sure up its future by growing a partnership with its former rival after the reported collapse of a three-way alliance. Nissan was one-third of a strategic deal with Mitsubishi and Renault to share financial backing and expand all their markets in Europe, Japan and the US. The agreement dates back to 1999 but now could be on the brink of collapse. A report from the Financial Times cites two anonymous "senior officials" at the firm suggesting that Renault is looking to reduce its financial stake in the Japanese carmaker. The withdrawal of funding means, according to the same sources, that Nissan could require support from the Japanese or US governments within the next year just in order to stay afloat. One of the officials said: "We have 12 or 14 months to survive. "This is going to be tough. "And in the end, we need Japan and the US to be generating cash." Nissan has already cut 9,000 jobs across its global operation, while its CEO Makoto Uchida took a 50% pay cut in an economy drive. The business is working through an emergency recovery plan, which will see it cut output by 20% and slash around £2bn in costs. Its struggles have partly been blamed on the lack of a strong hybrid lineup, which has helped rivals like Toyota and Honda through the global collapse in EV sales. In a press conference earlier this month, Mr Uchida said: "This has been a lesson learned and we have not been able to keep up with the times. "We weren't able to foresee that hybrid electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids would be so popular." 2

Lexus is Gearing Up for a Major Catalog Change: Say Goodbye To Some Of Your Favorite Models

According to documents from the NHTSA, the issue revolves around a critical piece of safety equipment. View post: Amazon Is Selling a 'Reliable' $46 Cordless Drill Set for 41% Off, and Shoppers Say It 'Has Plenty of Power' A new three-row electric crossover is expected to be revealed before the end of the year. Lexus hasn't initiated a significant change in its catalog in quite some time, but that familiarity is part of what draws people to the brand. The Japanese automaker is getting ready for a major shakeup, however, and is expected to discontinue several models in the coming months. The long-running Lexus IS and RC will be discontinued late this year, with production of the cars expected to end in November. While that's a bummer, especially the loss of Lexus' excellent V8 in those models, neither car is particularly modern or competitive in its class, with the IS having been on sale since 2014 without a generational update. Lexus' Japanese website states: 'Thank you for considering our vehicles. Production of the IS 500 / IS 350 / IS 300h (AWD) / IS 300 / RC 350 / RC 300h, and RC 300 will end in November 2025. Sales will end once orders reach the production numbers for November. Depending on when you consider purchasing a vehicle, some packages may no longer be available. Please contact your Lexus dealer for details.' The automaker is expected to release a next-generation IS as soon as 2026. Like the new ES, the IS will likely arrive with more electrified options, but the IS 500's iconic V8 probably won't return. The RC may not get a replacement, but spy shots and rumors point to a new sporty Lexus coupe in the near future. Source: Lexus Lexus also confirmed the RC F Final Edition has sold out with the following message on its Japan site: 'Thank you for your continued patronage of our products. We regret to inform you that the RC F 'Final Edition' has reached its limited number of 200 units and is now sold out. We would like to thank you for your continued patronage of the RC F. The RC 'Final Edition' will be on sale until production ends in November 2025.' Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. The new ES sedan was just announced, offering compelling new powertrain options, and the all-electric RZ just received an update with more power and faster charging. That's in addition to the brand's wildly popular gas models, which include the new GX, RX, and others. About the Author Chris Teague View Profile

New Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition Takes Aim At Toyota's RAV4 Woodland

View post: Walmart Is Selling an 'Awesome' $269 Milwaukee Battery Pack for $122, and Shoppers Say It's 'Worth Every Penny' The off-road upgrades don't go as far as Subaru's Wilderness models Mitsubishi has just announced the debut of the first-ever Trail Edition of the 2025 Outlander, based on the regular Outlander SE. Think of it as Mitsubishi's alternative to Honda's TrailSport, Toyota's RAV4 Woodland, or Subaru's Wilderness models, although as we'll see, the Outlander Trail Edition lacks many true off-roading credentials and falls firmly into the camp of compact SUVs posing as true off-roaders. 0:00 / 0:09 What is the Sony Honda Mobility Afeela 1? Watch More The timing of this 2025 Outlander Trail Edition's release is curious, since Mitsubishi has already outlined the updates for its 2026 range. Nevertheless, let's take a look at what this more rugged Outlander gets you. Tougher Looks Than Other Outlanders By providing your email address, you agree that it may be used pursuant to Arena Group's Privacy Policy. Mitsubishi calls this the first dedicated off-highway styling and equipment package for its compact crossover. Many of the changes are cosmetic, such as new 18-inch wheels and a black graphic package. The hood features Trail Edition decals in a combination of matte and gloss black. Elsewhere, you can spot a Trail Edition badge on the rear hatch, black trim updates for the front/rear skid bumper garnish, extended black fender trim, side-protector trim pieces on the doors, and black covers for the door handles and mirrors. Around the grille, there is Dynamic Shield trim in black. Although all-wheel drive is standard, you can also get that on other Outlanders, and Mitsubishi has made no mention of any other mechanical upgrades that would enhance off-roading capabilities. The same 2.5-liter engine with 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft should be used, given that this is a 2025 model; 2026 Outlanders will get a new 1.5-liter turbo-four with a mild hybrid system. Even Subaru's tiny Crosstrek Wilderness gets better ground clearance, superior approach/departure angles, and a special X-Mode for various terrains. These are some of the changes Mitsubishi could have implemented to make the Outlander Trail Edition more capable. Minor Interior Changes And Various Accessories Available Inside, the Outlander Trail Edition gets all-weather floor mats and an all-weather mat system in the cargo area. This model comes with an eight-speaker Yamaha sound system, heated front seats, synthetic black leather/suede upholstery, and a power panoramic sunroof. It also gets the third row from other Outlanders, a unique feature in the compact crossover class, but third-row space is extremely cramped for adults. Mitsubishi does offer some enticing accessories for customers who enjoy the outdoors. The Trail Edition can be personalized with extras like Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail A/T tires, a Thule Caprock flat-rack roof rack, and accessories for carrying items like canoes, bicycles, and surfboards. The chunky tires should at least help with grip on looser surfaces. Source: Mitsubishi 'Outlander has been a reputational, sales, and brand-level home run for Mitsubishi Motors since we launched this new-generation model in 2021,' said Mark Chaffin, president and CEO of MMNA. 'With updates to interior styling, drivability, and now the addition of the fantastic Trail Edition to widen interest in the vehicle even further, the 2025 Outlander absolutely must be on every compact SUV shopper's list.' The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition starts at $39,295, making it around $4,100 more expensive than the SE AWD trim it's based on. At that price, we'd be tempted to go for the more luxurious SEL instead. It's less than $1,000 pricier but adds leather seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and various other high-end features. Mainly, the SEL emphasizes what the Outlander does well, which is to operate as a comfortable on-road crossover. About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile
